Monument of John Paul II in Września - monument located in square near Parish Church by the street called "John Paul II". It was designed by warsaw sculptress Iwona Jesiotr - Krupińska and shows Pope in the last years of his life passing through gates, which symbolize The gate of the Third Millennium. Monument was exposed on 21 May 2009.

Localization and form of the monument[edit]

Monument was placed on the square near Parish Church in Września, on the crossroads of Rzeczna and Jana Pawła II streets. Sculpture was made of marble, however gate of gray concrete. Form shows character of John Paul II in the last years of his life, which passing through gates symbolizing The gate of the Third Millennium. There was written a few pieces of Pope`s homily and shows relief which presents Września kids. In 2005 convened Social Committee for the Construction of the monument and Competition Commission, which in agreement with residents of the city chosen the best monument project. His author ist warsaw sculptress Iwona Jesiotr-Krupińska. Her inspiration was Pope words about kids said during III Światowego Spotkania Rodzin in BSt. Peter's Basilica in 2009. „Children are the hope, that blooms anew, a project that continues to materialize, the future, which is always open. They are the fruit of conjugal love, which, thanks to the revived and strengthened. Coming into the world bring with them the message that points to the first author of life”. Archbishop Henryk Muszyński decided to extend the patronage of the project.

The monument was funded social, and the project was selected in consultation with the residents. The resulting four years memorial fund social cost about 400 000 zł.

Unveiling ceremony[edit]

The ceremonial unveiling of the monument took place on 21 May 2009.

The ceremony began with a Mass in the parish church Wrzesnia. After Mass, representatives of local authorities, delegations and associations of socio-cultural organizations gathered at the monument. The symbolic cut of the white - red ribbon and unveiling of the monument done Piotr Kownacki - minister Kancelarii Prezydenta RP. Dedication of the monument was held by Archbishop Henryk Muszynski of Gniezno.

Head of the Chancellery of the President Piotr Kownacki read a letter from Lech Kaczyński:

"I am convinced that his words and gestures remain relevant, as the countrymen of the Holy Father in a special way we remember and constantly return to the message that he left us. May this great monument will be a telling sign of our memory and fidelity to the sermons Września residents of the Polish Pope" - then wrote the Office of the President.

After the dedication of the monument by metropolitan people sang „Barkę” - favorite song of John Paul II.
