Northumberland Ferries Limited (NFL) is a ferry company operating in eastern Canada and headquartered in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. NFL is also the owner of subsidiary Bay Ferries Limited (which used to include the Bay Ferries Great Lakes brand) through its holding company.

History[edit]

NFL was incorporated in January 1939 in Nova Scotia and, after a change in ownership, incorporated in Prince Edward Island in April 1939. The first two ships purchased by NFL were requisitioned by the Royal Canadian Navy with the outbreak of World War Two and repurposed for the war effort. In 1941, NFL began providing a ferry service between Wood Islands, Prince Edward Island and Caribou, Nova Scotia with MV Prince Nova, a 14-vehicle ferry that remained in operation until 1958.
