Batenko Taras (b. 20 June 1974, Lviv, USSR Ukraine) - Ukrainian politician, co-chairman of the deputy group "For the future" in the Verkhovna Rada of the 9th convocation, People's Deputy of Ukraine of the 8th convocation, 9th convocation, director of the "Main Oil Pipeline" PJSC “Ukrtransnafta”, public figure, Candidate of Political Science (2000), Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Lviv Polytechnic National University, Member of Taras Shevchenko Scientific Society, Member of the Lviv Regional Council of V and VI convocations.

Biography[edit]

Born June 20, 1974 in Lviv, Ukraine. He received his higher political science education in 1996, graduating from Ivan Franko Lviv State University. In 1999 he defended his PhD thesis "The Role of the Opposition Leader in the Socio-Political Process of Ukraine in the Second Half of the XX Century".

1990-1993 - actively participated in the activities of the Ukrainian Republican Party, which was headed by the hero of Ukraine Levko Lukyanenko.

1993-1996 - participated in the publication of the magazine "Respublicanets".

1996-1997 he was a specialist of the information-analytical department of the Lviv Regional State Administration. Assistant to the Head of Information and Analytical Department of the Lviv Regional State Administration.

1997-2000 he was Deputy Director of the "Njva Khvylia" Center for Policy Studies.

2000–2002 - Head of the Political Forecasting Center of the newspaper “Vysokyi Zamok”.

2002–2003 - Head of the Press Service of the Lviv Regional State Administration. Deputy Director of the City Development Institute.

2003-2005 he was one of the leaders of Viktor Yushchenko's election headquarters in Lviv region.

2005-2008 - Lviv Regional State Administration for Political and Legal Affairs.

2009-2010, he was the head of the "Nasha Ukraina Blok" faction in the Lviv Regional Council.

2009–2014 - Director of Druzhba Trunk Oil Pipes of Ukrtransnafta PJSC.

From November 2014 - People's Deputy of Ukraine.

Research activities[edit]

He is the author of a number of books on national liberation competitions of Ukraine of the XIX-XX centuries., The rebirth of Galicia and the National Church, political prisoners of Bohdan and Mikhailo Goryn', Ivan Gel.

Significant repercussions in academia were aroused by professional studies of political figures of the past Ukraine, Russia, CIS countries, as well as a political portrait of Vladimir Putin, in which Batenko criticized the authoritarian regime in Russia.

The first edition of Putin's book was released in 2001 and was almost "repressed" almost immediately. The Russian Consulate in Lviv removed a large part of the circulation from circulation. In 2014, a presentation of Taras Batenko's book, "Putin.Birth of a dictator" took place at the Publishers Forum in Lviv.

Politics[edit]

  • Member of Lviv Regional Council of the 5th convocation since 2007, elected on the lists of "Nasha Ukraina Blok".
  • Member of the Lviv Regional Council of the 6th convocation since 2010, elected by majority constituency # 32 of the Lviv region (Zolochiv district). More than 40% of the district voters cast their votes for Taras Batenko.
  • In 2012, the candidate for People's Deputies of Ukraine for single-mandate constituency No. 123 (Zolochiv, Peremyshlyansky, Mykolaiv districts, Novyi Rozdil). Self-nominated. He won the second place with 23.52% (24 455) votes cast.
  • In 2014, at the snap election of the People's Deputies of Ukraine in the single-member constituency No. 123, he was nominated as a candidate from the Petro Poroshenko Bloc party. He won first place, receiving more than half of the vote, 50.89% (53 671).
  • In 2019, in the snap elections of the People's Deputies of Ukraine in the single-mandate constituency No. 123, as a self-nominated candidate, 35,944 (45.05%) received the most votes of the district voters in support of a number of democratic forces. This is the best result in the majority of MPs in the Lviv region.
  • On May 13, 2016, he was elected Chairman of the Political Council of the Ukrainian Association of Patriots - UKROP.
  • On March 3, 2018 he was elected Chairman of the political party "Ukrainian Association of Patriots - UKROP" for 4 years.
  • On August 29, 2019, he was elected co-chair of the "For the Future" deputy group in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the 9th convocation.

Privacy[edit]

Taras Batenko is married to Kateryna Kobrin (born 1984). They are raising two children - a daughter Yustina (born 2007) and a son Demyan (born 2008). He is fond of history and art.
