Morissette[edit]

Johanne Morissette Daug Amon (born June 2, 1996), known professionally as Morissette and frequently also referred to as Morissette Amon, is a Filipino singer and songwriter. Known for her whistle registers, vocal breaks, squeaks, and musicality, and touted as one of the best singers of her generation, she earned the label "Asia's Phoenix". She gained prominence after placing first runner-up in TV5's Star Factor talent competition in 2010 and making it to the finals of The Voice of the Philippines in 2013.

Morissette was born and raised in Minglanilla, Cebu. She became part of ABS-CBN's Sunday afternoon show, ASAP, in January 2014 and was introduced as one of the "Homegrown Divas", which ultimately became ASAP's "Birit Queens". She became a recording artist for Star Music in 2014 and released her self-titled studio album, Morissette, in March 2015. It was subsequently certified three-times platinum by the Philippine Association of the Record Industry (PARI) and earned her an award as the New Female Recording Artist by the PMPC Star Awards for Music. She received further recognition with the Gawad Musika Award and the Top Filipino Excellence Award as part of the 34th Seal of Excellence Awards of the National Consumer Affairs Foundation as the Outstanding Female Performing Artist.

Morissette has also been featured and performed on global stages to represent the Philippines. She has performed twice in a row at the Asia Song Festival, in 2017 and 2018, in Busan, South Korea; appeared at the Asian Television Awards (2020); and participated in One Love Asia (2020), the largest online charity musical event devoted to Asian musicians in Asia. She also debuted on the Pandora Predictions Chart and debuted at number seven on Billboard's Next Big Sound chart in December 2020, making her the first Female OPM artist to do so.

Morissette expanded her career by appearing as a guest mentor and judge for several Philippine talent competitions, such as Hello K-Idol (2018), Idol Philippines (2019), PoPinoy (2021), and Sing Galing Kids (2022). She has also co-hosted and mentored Michael Bolton's shows Bolt of Talent (2017) and Asian Dream (2020). Her accolades include 36 Wish Music Awards (including Hall of Fame: KDR Icon of Music and Philanthropy), five Star Awards for Music, three EdukCircle Awards, three Muse Creative Awards, two Awit Awards, one New York Festivals TV & Film Award, and one Asian Academy Creative Award.

Johanne Morissette Daug Amon (born June 2, 1996), known professionally as Morissette and frequently also referred to as Morissette Amon, is a Filipino singer and songwriter. Known for her whistle registers, vocal breaks, and squeaks, and touted as one of the best singers of her generation, Morissette rose to prominence because of her remarkable voice and musicality.[2] After placing first runner-up in TV5's Star Factor talent competition in 2010 and making it to the finals of The Voice Philippines (2013), Morissette went on to establish herself as a regular performer on ABS-CBN's ASAP Sunday noontime show.

Morissette became a recording artist for Star Music in early 2014 and released her self-titled studio album, Morissette, in March 2015. It was subsequently certified three-times platinum[3] by the Philippine Association of the Record Industry (PARI) and earned her an award as the New Female Recording Artist by the PMPC Star Awards for Music.[4] She received further recognition with the Gawad Musika Award and the Top Filipino Excellence Award as part of the 34th Seal of Excellence Awards of the National Consumer Affairs Foundation as the Outstanding Female Performing Artist.[5]

Morissette also performed the theme songs for prevalent ABS-CBN films and television shows, such as "Someone's Always Saying Goodbye" for the movie You're Still the One, "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" with Daniel Padilla for the movie Crazy Beautiful You,[6] and "Something I Need" with Piolo Pascual for the film Everything About Her,[7] which received FAMAS nominations for Best Theme Song.[8][9] Morissette's interpretation of "Gusto Ko Nang Bumitaw" for the series The Broken Marriage Vow went viral in 2022, receiving her the Best Theme Song or Title Theme award at the Asian Academy Creative Awards for the Philippines.[10]

Morissette has since grown to be a household name in the fields of music and entertainment.[11] She has performed in front of sold-out crowds in the United States,[12] Dubai,[13] Canada,[14] Japan,[15] and many other countries across the world. Her renditions of "Akin Ka Na Lang" and "Secret Love Song" have received over 100 million views on Wish 107.5's YouTube channel, making her the first Female OPM singer to reach that YouTube milestone.[16] She debuted on the Pandora Predictions Chart, and on 22 December 2020, she debuted at number seven on the Billboard's Next Big Sound chart, the first female OPM artist to do so.[17][18] She was also the first Filipino artist to have her own V Live channel, a popular South Korean live video streaming service for celebrities.[19]

Morissette was picked to sing "A Whole New World" for the official Asia release of Disney's live-action Aladdin (2019).[20] She was also the first and only Filipino performer to perform twice in a row at the Asia Song Festival in Busan, South Korea, in 2017[21] and 2018[22], representing the Philippines there. She also appeared at the Asian Television Awards (2020).[23] She also took part in One Love Asia (2020), the largest online charity musical event devoted to Asian musicians in Asia, to aid Asia in its fight against COVID-19.[24]

Aside from representing the Philippines at various festivals and events, Morissette was chosen to co-host and mentor Michael Bolton's shows Bolt of Talent (2017)[25] and Asian Dream (2020)[26]. She was also selected to serve as a guest mentor and judge on several Philippine talent competitions, including Hello K-Idol (2018)[27], Idol Philippines (2019)[28], PoPinoy (2021)[29], and Sing Galing Kids (2022)[30]. Her accolades include 36 Wish Music Awards (including Hall of Fame: KDR Icon of Music and Philanthropy), five Star Awards for Music, three EdukCircle Awards, two Muse Creative Awards, two Awit Awards, one New York Festivals TV & Film Award, and one Asian Academy Creative Award. Her unparalleled vocal prowess has earned her the label "Asia's Phoenix."
