Thegooduser - You didn't link this .js file to any other of your main .js files that the system uses when loading pages. The way you have it now just makes it an unused script that's just sitting there... It won't work unless you link it. I modified your common.js file for you to fix the problem - you can see what I did here. I hope that makes sense, and I hope this fixes your problem. You were wrong.

This edit is in no way a violation of the edit restriction. The restriction is about linking to external behavior of other editors. A blog website is not an "editor", and the blog in question does not mention any off-wiki behavior by an editor. It cites a couple of forum comments, but they were not written by Wikipedians! If you imply they were, you're the one violating the WP:OUTING policy. I'm writing this because he was indeffed for an actual violation of the edit restriction. If you agree that you were wrong, the block can be perhaps reduced to time served (as the first actual violation of the editing restriction). wumbolo ^^^ 19:37, 1 November 2018 (UTC)

Hi Wumbolo, and thank you for leaving a message here with your concerns and input. Without going into much detail, it was pointed out and agreed by someone in ArbCom that this was a violation of the user's editing restrictions. I can't state much more than that, since most the conversation took place with an expectation of confidence. If you believe that the user's action did not violate the editing restriction set by ArbCom, and if you believe that the sanctions applied in response to the behavior observed were improper, you're welcome to discuss this with ArbCom directly by contacting the committee. That's completely within your right and your prerogative to do and I absolutely won't hold it against you should you decide to do so. Either way or either result that comes from doing so won't bother me, and I'll be happy to do what's right (that, overall, is what's important... I want to do the right thing). I won't, however, be the correct person to contact in regards to this user's indefinite block as someone else has performed this action, and I took no part in the discussion or decision to do so (that I remember at least). If you didn't make the edits, you don't need to worry about the message. Alexmar983! Please accept my apologies! I just realized that I missed your message here and accidentally skipped over it without responding. I'm so sorry! The deletion on Mascha2013's user talk page had nothing to do with you, and it didn't delete anything you added there. An LTA user was going around and mass-messaging random users to be... disruptive. My deletion on this page simply removed the disruption that was added. Please let me know if you have any more questions and I'll be happy to answer them. I apologize again for missing your message here. That was extremely unacceptable on my part; please forgive me. Is this allowed on Wikipedia???

Just wondering but, User:TheUltamateBoss3900 has "Hello this is my new Wikipedia account please do not go to my other account User:TheBigBoss3900 because I have officially retired from that exact account again I am terribly sorry." on his main user page. Just wondering if this counts as a Sock puppet seeing as BigBoss's last edit was 9 August 2018 and UltamateBoss first edit was 21 August 2018. I took a look at the user's accounts, and it seemed like none of them were blocked. But I tagged one the new userpage as a U5. Seems Strange.... But they are not blocked on both accounts. Hi there! Sorry for the delay responding to your question here. I personally would not consider this situation an abuse of multiple accounts, as the user clearly associates his/her latest user account with the older account he/she used to edit Wikipedia under. There may be a perfectly legitimate reason that the user decided to "retire" under the old account and begin using another one (i.e. to stop harassment, under a clean start, etc). So long as the user only uses their latest account (which appears to be TheUltamateBoss3900) and never uses the accounts in order to avoid scrutiny, evade blocks, or in a manner that attempts to imply or state that they're participating as two different people - then it's fine. I don't see a block log present on either user account, but if one account did become blocked (as an example) - depending on the reason and circumstances behind the block, it would be up to the blocking admin if they feel that its necessary that both accounts become blocked. I personally will usually extend indefinite blocks placed upon a user to all of the user's alternate accounts as well (depending on circumstance, of course). Editing of Lee Rowley page

Hi again Oshwah,

Have hit another issue with a page. You kindly helped with the Robert Buckland page last month and that is fine after another editor blocked the guy when he registered a new account and attempted to delete material again.

Having updated over 100 MPs pages, of different political parties, I have only had issues with two of them (Robert Buckland and Lee Rowley). I had moved onto editing MPs from another political party this week, but had a quick check over old edits. It turns out that since I last edited the 'Lee Rowley' page earlier in the year a number of unregistered user(s) have been deleting all the stuff I put in for balance. In one case, an entire section relating to a case reported by the BBC had been deleted. None of the edits ever come with an explanation on the talk page. Despite my best efforts to get them to debate content on the talk page, they refuse to. The style and approach suggests they may just be one person (possibly the subject of the page itself) and as they are unregistered users, they don't edit anything else and are difficult to 'talk with'. The most recent unregistered user has seemingly only made 1 other edit, which was last month and involved vandalising another page (for which the user 'tucoxn' sent them a warning). On the Lee Rowley page, they keep just deleting everything - twice now in 24 hours. They claim they are acting in line with the edits of 'others', which in real terms is unregistered user(s) from 4 different IP addresses, which may just be the same person (them!) Given that they are unregistered and are potentially using multiple computers, I guess they can't be blocked, but is there something else that can be done to the page?

Incidentally some of my editing has been flawed, but I have responded to advice from other wiki editors and changed the way I do things as a result. As such, i'm more than happy for other experienced editors to jump in and critique what I have written on this page (and any others).

Perhaps if Impsfan didn’t delete from talk pages and the users own talk page attempts by other editors to discuss contributions Impsfan would be able to reach consensus. Instead you ignore debate. Your edits are delete anything positive about an MP and add spurious material often with minimal connection to the actual subject. I just looked through Impsfan's contributions and I don't see any edits where Impsfan removed any content from a talk page at all (except for his own user talk page). User's are allowed to remove warnings and messages from their own user talk page (see this guideline section), but the removal also implies that they've read and acknowledged those messages. It looks like the accusation of "ignoring discussions" and "adding or removing content that shouldn't be" go back-and-fourth. If you're going to accuse another editor of breaching Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy (as you said above), you must also provide evidence alongside those accusations (such as diff links) to back them up. It's a violation of Wikipedia's civility policy to accuse another editor of repeatedly violating Wikipedia policy (an accusation that's very serious) without any proof or evidence. Regardless, it looks like this article has been the subject of recent content disputes and edit wars, so I've added extended confirmed protection to it in order to direct all users involved in the dispute to take the discussion to the article's talk page here. That's the fair and right thing to do that will ultimately resolve the issues and concerns being expressed here. Please continue (or... start) your discussions there, respond and provide input in a civil and peaceful manner, and please don't update or modify the article any further until the discussion comes to a consensus. Thank you Oshwah. The problem is that the other unregistered user(s) refuse to debate points on the talk page. I started the process on the talk page earlier in the year and they just ignored it and carried on vandalising the main page. I'll try and start again on the talk page and we will see if they engage this time. Unfortunately you put the protection on the main page just after they had vandalised it again i.e. they deleted all the fully sourced links provided (again). I'll request it is reverted back in due course and the protection is then left on semi-permanently to prevent further vandalism. Thanks for taking the time to look into this. Hi Mohit1212, and thank you for leaving me a message here. There are a few things that you need to work out before creating an article or adding any content about this team, else you'll wind up spending hours if not a full day of time writing content here just for all of it to be removed or deleted and your time completely wasted. Is this sports team notable? I also note that your account is very new. Because of how new you are to Wikipedia, I highly recommend that you go through and complete Wikipedia's new user tutorial and before you do anything else here. It will provide you with many helpful walkthroughs, guides, interactive lessons, and other information that will be helpful to you (including article creation and content expansion). What if, 100 years later, someone reads this article? How would they know that the information is valid and true? They of course wouldn't be able to know for sure... Hello Oshawa. How are you?, It has been long time no talk, I hope you are doing well. There is a suspected sock who was disruptively editing the page of North Africa, he was refusing to engage on the talk page and after many warnings, he finally did and once I refuted his claims, he refused to continue the discussion on the talk page and came to attack me personally and threaten me on my page which is also an additional evidence of his sock puppetry as Middayexpress/Soupfrone had the same exact habit!!!! Look at the discussion here on the talk page!!! [1].

He again reverted my edits and disruptively edited the page ( and attacked me in his edit summary ) after refusing to engage on the talk page and then requested protecting the page and his request was accepted without reverting his disruptive edits, I have also requested page protection when this suspected sock disruptively edited page. However, the admins declined my request for this reason!! [2]. I would be grateful if you revert his disruptive edits (which wasn't supported by consensus) while keeping the page protected.

Moreover, I am VERY VERY sure that this guy is the banned user Middayexpress, I have been battling this banned user for quite a long time and I know him VERY VERY well, this guy has been vandalizing Wikipedia for many years as well as he is the most persistent sock puppeteer in Wikipedia, he should hold a Guinness record in sock puppeting!!. The only thing which I did and was unprofessional while fighting this suspected sock this time might be dealing with him in a harsh way, but I am a human, not a robot and any human with blood running through his veins and a bit of scientific honesty will get angry If he watches vandals and unchallenged sock puppeteers destroying one of main the sources of knowledge in our world. Unfortunately the persistence appearance of people really like Middayexpress/Soupfrone on Wikipedia very much discourages the good users from editing and are why Wikipedia occasionally gets a bad name.

I have already filed a sock puppetry report against this suspected sock here [3], I would be grateful if help me in taking an action against this user, you can check my report and evaluate the behavioral evidence and leave your thoughts which will be highly appreciated. Whew, that's a lot of information... but from what I'm seeing based off your SPI report, you suspect that Itaren is a sock user of Middayexpress. Are there any other accounts or users involved in this dispute on North Africa or it's talk page? Or is it just this Itaren account? On the SPI report you filed: did you make sure to add as much detail as possible and include as many diffs between the accounts comparing their similar habits as you could find? You also included the diffs where the user used similar uncivil comments toward you, correct? I can definitely take a look at the SPI and the evidence you provided there. If there's diffs you listed here but not in the SPI, add them to your evidence explanation in the SPI. Information that's here but not there won't be helpful, obviously ;-). Make sure all of that is provided so that an admin or clerk can easily go through and look at the evidence and we'll make sure that your report is looked into as soon as possible. Concerns on FFD/CSD and image handling ( in followup to the IRC chat earlier)....

(Summarised from the IRC chat)...

Given the disputes I had recently with Iridescent and Ritche333 and the feedback I got there (the feedback I got re my conduct is at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Iridescent#Splitting_off) I was wanting a second view as tothe closure (and subsequent CSD) of an FFD i'd started and then withdrawn.

One of the concerns, in the feedback I got (at the page noted above) was essentialy "Why aren't you doing basic fixes, searches before you CSD/FFD?", and based on that I felt it might be reasonable that FFD closers, who generally have considerable experience, might be reasonably considered to be applying some fixes/ when closing an FFD (even if the nominal decision reached was to Delete) in order to protect against an incomplete disscussion.

I was thus a little perplexed by what happened with Wikipedia:Files_for_discussion/2018_October_30#File:DD442.jpg the closer accepted my withdraw, (as following some other information, I figured out the title was registry identifier, and was thus able to add the context I hadn't had previously.), However the closer then nominated the file for F4, despite the fact that it had a source (albiet a very generic one) which had been added in good faith. If there was genuine concern the source added was to generic, wouldn't the appropriate place to have raised this been in the FFD, opposing the 'withdrawl' made? The file had a USGov style PD license tag on lot, and thus based on the available information, in context it was most likely a US Gov photo (although not necessarily definitively).

In another example , way back I'd added an (on review incomplete) information block to File:Mark_Parkinson_(Missouri_politician).jpg and on the information had put "Official Photo" as the source. This was also recently nominated for F4, which I considered inappropriate.

A third concern, occured with File:Richmond_Train_Station_2018.jpg. The upload concerned had been mis-charcterised as being by someone other than uploader. As I'd encountered the contributors uploads elsewhere, I felt it in context considering it as a possible F11, might have been hasty, and let the user that had tagged it, know it was most likely own work by the uploader.

A fourth concern, File:CytherapublishedJudgement.pdf, Wikipedia:Files_for_discussion/2018_October_30#File:CytherapublishedJudgement.pdf, was deleted, apparently solely on the basis of my rationale, without any other responses being present. The issue was that it was tagged PD-USGov, which was incorrect as the media concerned was an account of a ruling in an Australian court. Had there been a more measured response, it may have been possible to consider if it had in fact been Crown Copyright, and thus the date needed to be considered (as it may have expired 50 years ago rather than more recently, or if it was an official work that could be re-licensed, given that the Australian govt had in recent years been publishing considerably more material under Wikimedia compatible licenses.) My recollection was also that the file itself had some kid of license response at the back of it. If someone was willing to reconsider this, it's the sort of file on which a request for undeletion may be appropriate.

I may be over-reacting (and in asking about these concerns, I appreciate given my own "reckless" approaches in the past, I'm not in the best position), but a second look at how these and some other FFD/CSD handling issues have been dealt with by some contributors would be desirable. The seeming bias towards deletion at FFD (amongst some closers) is also a more generalised concern.

Confessing an important thing

Well, you said that i should ask other editors. So here is that for you. If u know a soccer fan who has been watching football for atleast the past 15 yrs, then ask him what kind of persona Petr Cech has. I added a simple and straight forward content quoting him as "one of the greatest of all time" which was said by two of the most biggest names in football history Jens lehmann and Sir Arsene Wenger. But he said that it is a subjective content. I think that this is something that you should discuss directly with the editor who reverted your change. Unfortunately, you were uncivil toward him and made personal attacks instead of simply being respectful and inquiring about the removal. You also indicated in your previous message that you have three accounts and that they are currently indefinitely blocked from editing Wikipedia. This means that your edits here are in violation of policy because you're evading your previous blocks. You need to log into your original account, request an unblock of that account, and take things from there. Otherwise, you'll just be blocked on-sight every time you try to edit or talk to someone here (for block evasion). A lot of experimental editing

Hi Longhair! When I run into new user accounts who make repeated edits back-and-fourth within their own user space (on their user page or their sandbox), they're usually trying to get their edit count above 500 so that they can keep it as a sleeper and it'll become extended confirmed once 30 days pass. This is usually pretty obvious though - they usually just add and remove one letter or number from a page, or something similarly small and simple... this one's quite a bit different than what I normally see when socks, LTAs, or troublemakers try and do this, so I can't say for sure if this is the case. I'm going to take a look at the user's sandbox and history, put some content through Google translate to get an idea of what they're doing, and I'll let you know what I find. Thanks for the message and for bringing this user to my attention. I'm also quite curious as to what they're doing and what they may be up to. Feel free to follow-up if you find anything, and (as you already know) you're always welcome to message me here if you need anything and I'll be happy to help. Reason for edits to eddy current separator

Sorry I did forgot to put in the justification for the changes.

The present page claiming that eddy current separators were invented in 1984 by Juillett is not incorrect. Eddy current separators were manufactured well before that and I believe the first patent for such a device was in 1969.

You reverted my change to Dafuskie Island, but my edit was legitimate. Dafuskie Island does not exist in Georgia or anywhere else. The originator of that wiki is likely, based on his description, mistaking it with Daufuskie Island, which does exist. Edits to "Boycott" page

I was hoping that you could respond to my comments about the changes I made to what I saw as the bias of the entry for Boycott. I explained that:

I made the edits because I was concerned that the original text on BDS was not neutral. I changed it to include additional context that I think readers would find helpful in appreciating the nuance of this issue. For example, Nazism was a movement that spread "across Europe and North Africa," but to describe it that way in a wikipedia article would be a disingenuous distraction from important historical context. For that reason, I think it's too simplistic to call BDS a "worldwide" movement. Also, I'm not sure what the evidence is for the "civil society" element and why that descriptor is supposedly the most "neutral." Finally, I think it's important to mention that many people consider the movement to be antisemitic, i.e., a movement to deny Jews the right of self-determination in their historic homeland. BDS is not mainstream and it is not without controversy. Ignoring that nuance in the name of whitewashed neutrality serves neither the readers nor true neutrality.

Thanks for your response. What if the entry were changed to state: "Many scholars have opined that BDS denies..." with a link to articles to support that claim. Also, I think it would be appropriate to have some support for these supposedly neutral claims about "civil society." And, as I said, I don't think the "worldwide" comment provides the proper context. Are there edits we could make to the entry that more accurately reflect the controversy surrounding this movement? Why wouldn't that help advance the cause of neutrality? As it stands now (as I have argued), the wording is not very neutral because it ignores important historical context and significant controversy over the true aims of the movement. If it's neutral to say that the Nazi boycott of Jewish businesses was "antisemitic," then I think it's also neutral to explain that many do consider BDS to be antisemitic because it aims to deny the right of Jews to national self-determination. 199.107.16.121 (talk) 21:00, 8 November 2018 (UTC)

That change is much better. It's always much more neutral and proper to word things and state exactly who has this opinion (and provide references in support). Instead of writing (for example), "rock climbing is a dangerous activity" - where it sounds like you're saying this and can be translated as being biased, instead write who is saying this exactly (and provide references, of course). So the sentence should state, "the coalition for banning rock climbing has stated that rock climbing is a dangerous activity" (I've of course made the organization up, but you know what I'm getting at). Do be careful with the words you use when you state "who believes what", and make sure to avoid "weasel words" in your statements. Phrases such as "many people say...", "some believe...", or "experts agree..." are often empty attributions and are only dressed with authority from the statements made such as these, so be mindful of how you state things. It sounds like you're going in the right direction and you're beginning to understand and improve your content writing based off of our discussion and what you've read from Wikipedia's guidelines - that's really awesome and I hope you continue to improve from here. Thegooduser - Because I was brand new to this project, I was much younger than I was today, and things were much different back then compared to as they are today as far as recent changes patrolling goes. Back then, it consisted of going through the recent changes page and picking out edits to see if they were vandalism. When I'd find one, I'd have to undo the edit and then leave each warning manually. I thought that leaving each edit summary in all caps would make it easier for others to notice it when reviewing the users. Yeah... times were very different than today... and I obviously had my lack of experience to add to it all as well... lol ~Oshwah~^{(talk) (contribs)} 22:50, 8 November 2018 (UTC)

The same kids who were attacking Matoaca High School and Manchester High School (Virginia) appear to be at it again today on other schools in their district: Monacan High School and Thomas Dale High School, at a minimum. Hi Julietdeltalima! Sure, no problem - always happy to help :-). I took a look at all three pages, and I quickly found that 2600:1003:B450::/44 was a range involved with editing each article. I had to individually block the remaining two IPv6 addresses, as they were both from unrelated ranges and the collateral damage network reservation ranges were much too wide to be able to block. I think you should be mostly set now, but please don't hesitate if you see any more disruption pop up and I'll be happy to handle it. Hi Robert L. Crawford! Thanks for leaving me a message and explaining what you were trying to do here. That's completely understandable and I'm sorry that we got a bit tangled up into some confusion. In the future, you'll want to perform these content moves in the same edit instead of removing the content and then adding it back in two different edits. It saves you time and potential headache (these moves can get quite complex as you can imagine), and it's much easier for other editors to see and understand. You also want to add an edit summary with each edit that you make on Wikipedia and briefly describe what you're changing any why. It's accepted normal practice to do on Wikipedia for all editors, and it also helps other editors see and understand what you're doing and why. What I added on Hausa people is completely verifiable with references. Nothing controversialI. For instance, if you could take the time to google Paul E. Love joy book “Salt of the desert Sun ...” 1986. This extract is from that book “Hausa tanners made leather aprons and loincloths, cushions, bags, sandals, saddles and other horse ... So- called Moroccan leather was in fact often leather imported from the central Sudan or other parts of West Africa“. Actually am new to Wikipedia so I have not digested all the rules. I was concerned with your edit here, as it changes a population data from 1,000,000 to 2,000,000 which is usually not common to see in legitimate edits unless they're following or undoing disruption by somebody else. Offensive, False and misleading information on TULIO CAPRILES MENDOZA

HELLO, Oshwah thank you for your response, my name is Tulio Capriles Mendoza, Venezuelan, a business mayor from The American University in Washington, DC. I have worked many years in Finance, Insurance, Profesional Sports Teams, Automotive insdustry, international trade and media. As a person involved in business for 23 years, I have never being involved or study politics, never work for any government in this planet, and never being related to 99% of statements on your page. Moreover, since is my same exact name and the text mentions EL SIGLO newspaper founded by my father and currently under my responsabilities as the president, your page have being associate to my persona.

Generally, when users create a bunch of content about themselves on their user page, make no other edits outside of it, and then go stale after they've done this - this can be interpreted and translated that the user was here just to create a page about themselves in order to host it, or user it for networking or social interactions, which is not the purpose of user pages nor is it what Wikipedia is to be used for. Hi Kpgjhpjm! A condition in the edit filter is that it flags edits by new users if they mention certain Wikipedia editors by username. In most cases, it flags LTA and sock puppet trolls with their edits that do so. Flash floods in caves

Flash floods do periodically trap and or kill cave explorers, just as they do hikers in slot canyons. Underground stream passages in geologically young active wet caves are a very dangerous place to be in the event of rain storms. Dear Oshwa,

I ran across you somewhere along the way a few months ago, and you came across as someone who is really friendly and truly enjoys helping people. So, now that I ran into problems, I went searching for you.

I am a current math teacher, and former US History teacher. I am also older than you (age 47), which is my weak excuse for having piss-poor computer skills.

I began editing Wikipedia the way I imagine most people do: I'd be reading an article and see something obviously factually incorrect, or heavily biased, or find a typo, or whatever, and was too irritated to just let it pass. At times I got into trouble because my weak tech skills got in the way, e.g. not initially being able to figure out how to enter a source.

Now I've run into a larger problem.

I have always been one to to speak truth to power, which has gotten me into trouble all my life. (Growing up the youngest in a large family was probably the catalyst.) I have now actually been banned three different ways, which simply represents the elite trying to crush the simple truth-tellers. Duterte of the Phillipines seems to be the role model of certain WP administrators. 1. I was edit-banned for 31 hours. 2. I was banned from editing anything relating to the Israeli-Arab situation for 30 days. 3. I was banned from editing bioraphies of living or recently deceased people for 30 days.

This specific Wikipedian Duterte disciple, Doug Weller, has refused to respond to my inquiries: When the 31 hour overall ban showed up, I responded to him by email, asking, in essence, why? No response. When the 30 day Israeli-Arab editing ban showed up, which he had explained was due to my having edited such matters before I reached 500 edits, I sent him an email explaining that it was a misunderstanding: I thought I was to avoid articles related to the Israeli-Arab matter. My edit was on the Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez page, which I had not realized was included in the 500-edit rule. Weller again ignored me, and continued with ban #3, the biography-of-living-or-recently-dead ban, which is pretty much an across-the-board ban in my book.

When the 31 hour ban hit, I responded to him by email: The Orwellian nature of the ban is such that I could not respond on his talk page, because I was banned, natch.

Now that 31 hours has passed, I am able to add to a talk page, but I would rather go to you. I am fairly convinced that it is just a matter of time before a new ban hits me, perhaps permanently. I am now a target.

I know there is some way that I am supposed to be able to appeal Weller's ban, but I can't figure it out, because when you combine my lousy computer skills with the fact that I am typing on a Galaxy S6, it makes it pretty rough.

A little background on me: I am an anti-Trump conservative. In certain parts of the internet, I get viciously criticized by die-hard Trumpians for being honest about Trump's character issues, but at least they can't shut me up. On WP, I get into trouble when addressing naked liberal propaganda that sneaks its way into a WP article, which is when apparatchiks like Weller can ban me for telling the truth.

(Important note: When I taught US History, I was so careful to teach it down the middle that my students were actually pretty convinced that I was a card-carrying liberal. Just because I am a conservative does not mean that I am not open to both sides of an issue. Some WP administrators seem to only see their own side, though.)

If you look into the specifics of where I got into trouble, which is with the Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez article, and - to a lesser extent - the Jeff Flake article, you will see that my edits supplied the appropriate sources which clearly supported what I changed. Perhaps more importantly, WIKIPEDIA'S OWN ARTICLES(!) supported what I wrote. And yet I was not only reverted, I was banned!

The Ocasio page has a section regarding her political views on Israel, which is misleading to the point of being nearly false. I corrected the record, leaning heavily on the fully edit-protected WP article 2018 Gaza border protests, as well as by adding multiple sources. Nonetheless, some outraged editor accused me of "severe BLP violations", as well as "defaming" Ocasio. When I asked him for any examples of such, he ignored me, and instead sent me out for banning, which Weller then complied with. Neither individual has yet cited a single word that I added which does not belong, not one.

In the Jeff Flake article, there is a badly misleading phrase that claims that Flake voted to "change Senate tradition" (perhaps not verbatim, but close). I removed that claim because it is not terribly accurate, as I explained in the accompanying box with edit, and as shown by my links, and as also shown in the WP article Nuclear Option. No one seems to care about that, either.

Again, it is bad enough to see these articles propagating nonsense. But it is flat-out disheartening to learn that some administrators see WP as a propaganda machine, banning all who disagree with them.

I am asking (begging?) you to please get involved. Right now, I am really down on Wikipedia. It looks like a bunch of propaganda. Administrators are supposed to police malice, not ban views which differ from their own. Again, to be clear, the result of my edits was not that the article represented my POV, but instead reflected more balanced articles, which is what WP should contain - or so I thought.

(talk page watcher) First, comparing administrators (or other editors, for that matter) to autocrats is not likely to result in a successful editing career here.

Second, your edits to Ocasio-Cortez's biography were rejected because they were wildly inappropriate and POV, having problems with original research, synthesis and poor, partisan sourcing (the Free Beacon is a right-wing propaganda site). You use an article about apparently-violent protests in October to support a claim about a statement that Ocasio-Cortez made in May — that's obviously not how it works. You need to step back, read and understand policies like WP:BLP, WP:RS, WP:NPOV and WP:V before you dive headfirst into controversial political articles, particularly those of politicians you obviously personally oppose. Hi Vcuttolo, welcome to Wikipedia. I'm Kevin, and I'm another administrator around here. I can tell you care a lot about this topic and about making Wikipedia better. We do have a habit on Wikipedia (because we have so many bad edits, as we see it, submitted to Wikipedia compared with a tiny number of people reviewing those edits) of referring someone to a large number of links containing summaries of our policies and practices, and then blaming the user for not understanding our standards and practices. I know that can be abrasive, and I can tell that may be part of what is frustrating you.

That being said, I've reviewed the edit NorthBySouthBaranof refers to above and it was completely improper. We have a giant mass of policies, guidelines, and interpretive essays for a reason, and while I completely understand that you may not know the whole corpus of them, the community expects that (1) when a link is directly mentioned in a message to you, you read it and try to understand why the editor linked it for you; and (2) when you have the idea that someone disagrees or might disagree with something you're going to do, you ask (quite simple) before you do it. If you have not thoroughly read the links in the messages that have been left for you, I would advise you to do so before your next message to ask for help. I've had a look at your talk page, and I see a number of occasions where editors have left messages for you (containing many links to relevant Wikipedia policies and guidelines) that haven't been responded to.

It's getting rather late here (Pacific Time), and I haven't covered a lot of the things I was hoping to in this message, so I might follow up (or Oshwah might cover it himself too). One last, very important, note about your topic ban. Topic bans are "broadly construed", extend to all namespaces (including talk pages!), and remain in effect until successfully appealed. For example, a topic ban from "climate" would prohibit editing the "Weather" article, of course, but it would also prohibit editing the "Climate" section of the "California" article, editing about climate-related people, or discussing climate/related things anywhere on Wikipedia. In your case, I suggest that an appeal is overwhelmingly unlikely to be successful and you'd be better off taking this month off to review our policies and practices. Could you please take a look at some of the recent edits made by DeFacto, particularly at 2018 Formula One World Championship, 2019 Formula One World Chsmpionship and 2020 Formula One World Championship? In the past week or so, he has been extensively editing the markup in the articles to enforce a variety of Wikipedia policies. Normally I would have no problem with this, but he is making wholesale changes to complex markup without consulting other editors and with no regard for the implications his edits are making. That markup is complex and parts are possibly redundant, but it was carefully crafted to add features (such as sortability) to tables without compromising the accessibility for tablet and mobile readers. Any changes really should be made in consultation with other editors, but DeFacto has pointedly refused to do so. To further complicate things, I have reason to believe that he does not understand the policies he is enforcing.

I have tried to remind him to discuss things with other editors and have pointed out the significance of the markup, but he has largely ignored me. Prisonermonkeys, I'm not sure why you're trying to make a big deal over this, all I've done is make minor MOS recommended changes to the markup, with each edit explained and referenced to a MOS page in the summary. None of the changes I made alter the appearance to the reader at all, and each is recommended specifically for accessibility. Now talking about being collaborative this edit was also made by IP 1.129.109.172, so your goodself I presume, adding a whole column to a table without any prior discussion. -- DeFacto (talk). 12:57, 11 November 2018 (UTC)

Prisonermonkeys - Assuming that you're really who you say that you are - why are you editing from an IP address and not from your user account? It looks like you haven't edited from your account in some time... what's going on? I obviously can't simply take your word for it; impersonation attempts happen frequently from anonymous users, so I hope you understand if I'm not inclined to believe this information from the get-go. DeFacto - I understand that you believe that your edits aren't major changes to these articles, but if other editors have issues with your changes or disagrees with them, you do need to listen to them and work with them on the articles' talk pages in order to resolve the dispute. Resorting to edit warring or other non-collaborative means is disruptive. The anonymous IP range that posted this message is now blocked from editing due to edit warring; I don't want to see this happen to you as well. Remember to follow Wikipedia's dispute resolution protocol and best practices, and make sure any disputes are peacefully discussed. Disruptive Twinkle usage

I wanted to ask for your opinion on disruptive twinkle usage. Has happened at least twice I am aware of. First incident happened here. Second incident happened here. The user is using Twinkle to revert every edit on articles that he doesnt agree with. Rather than discuss, time and time again, he has simply deleted articles rather than open a merge proposal. Hi Figfires, and thanks for leaving a message here with your concerns. While Twinkle can be used to make undoing changes much easier, it would be an abuse of the tool only if standard rollback was used to undo good-faith edits (since it leaves only a generic edit summary). In the diffs you linked me to, they were not using rollback. On top of this, rollback can be used like any other revert method if the user provides an edit summary explaining the reason for reverting the edit (see this section of the rollback policy). While I can't go after anyone for the individual reverts you pointed me to here, if they're engaging in edit warring and disruption in place of proper dispute resolution protocol, that's obviously another story. You should do your best to discuss disagreements and disputes on the articles' talk pages as soon as you notice such a dispute that you're involved in. However, if edit warring is occurring and despite attempts to discuss the dispute and despite the involved user(s) being warned on their user talk pages to stop, report them to AN3 so that an admin can handle it. While Twinkle is a great tool to use and those who use it accept responsibility for their actions should they use it improperly, it's not considered abuse of the tool simply because they're using it to undo a good-faith edit but how they're using it to do so. Yeah, we have tried to talk it out with him. He has at least 3 standing edit war warnings in the past few months. The articles he removed with Twinkle wouldn't rise to the level of edit warring imo since he only made one reversion. I know external chats and such have no bearing here, but it seems like he removes things based on how he personally feels rather than by wikipolicy. Would that be considered vandalism? Additionally, myself and a few other people have tried to talk to him without any success. He doesn't seem to even acknowledge what has been posted on his talk page. I get that Twinkle is a tool used to make undoing changes easier. It seems that this user is using a feature in Twinkle that is similar to rollback without actually using (or even possessing) rollback permissions. Actually, there is another instance in which he blanked a page without any discussion. The article may have been created a little too soon (maybe a day or so), but that still doesn't warrant removal when the storm is rapidly approaching land and watches have been issued. Figfires - No, that wouldn't be considered vandalism in this case. Remember that Vandalism is where someone maliciously and purposefully makes edits and changes to Wikipedia with the intention to troll, add inaccurate facts, trash or mess up content or pages, obstruct or defeat the project's purpose or disrupt other users from being able to do so. It seems like the user is making what he/she thinks are good changes but is being unresponsive when disagreements and disputes arise from them. Since this is a pattern of behavior, I'd open an ANI discussion next time the user engages in edit warring and disruptive behavior and I'd discuss the user's long-term and repeated issues. This way, the community can investigate the repeated issues and someone can take action since the disruption is continuing at that time. Don't wait until an episode of behavior turns stale or until after you discover the same behavior later to report it there - admins won't be able to do much if it's not currently in progress and the behavior isn't recent. Continue attempting to communicate to the user and point them to discussions on the articles' talk pages that you've started. If anything, it builds documentation to help with action being taken at ANI, since it will show that you've tried your best in good faith to work things out and make it easy for the user to participate, you've tried multiple times, but despite your attempts the user has failed to respond or participate and the behaviors kept continuing. Anon removing content

There is a anon who is quite bound and determined to remove content from at least a dozen or more articles. The anon often makes a single edit via mobile then the IP changes. So, blocking is probably not useful. I have been going through numerous edits and made a list here: User:Jim1138/Single use IP. It contains fourteen articles that seem to have a common thread. The IPs seem to all be in Taipei and the edits are all regarding Chinese history WWII and shortly thereafter.

The anon often makes references to Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/User-4488 as in "sock of 4488" Also the anon often avoids reverting autoconfirmed users. Seems to prefer reverting older IP edits which have the same effect as reverting the immediate changes. I suspect to avoid notifications to A/Cs. Often calls editors who revert their edits a "sock of 4488"

I just went through that list and undid the anon's edits and got a rather rapid reaction from 49.215.129.109 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log) I left an EW notice to no effect.

BilCat - Ahhh, thanks. I missed that link somehow... Yeah, they've been updating and phasing out a lot of old things this year. Older tools are typically phased out and replaced when they rely on older methods or functions to do what they're supposed to do and those methods are about to be replaced or changed to where the toolbar would no longer function. As an engineer myself, I'm sure that they figured that they should update the edit toolbar while they're at it and while "back-end stuff" is being changed. As crummy and as frustrating as it is to be forced into change and into using something different than what you're used to, it's necessary to do if our goal is to implement new useful features and make editing and contributing easy for everyone (especially new and novice editors). I understand the need to update, especially back-end stuff, but I HATE the newer toolbars. Why is having a clearly-identifiable button for each function considered "old-fashioned"? The Wiki engineers need to remember that older folks, even ones like myself who've always been computer savvy, take longer to adust to new things, especially as our eyes get older. BilCat - Make sure that you leave feedback and express these thoughts in the relevant feedback discussion so that those who are implementing such changes can see and review them. It's important that everyone has a say and that they leave feedback regarding changes like this. Otherwise, if you don't say anything - there's probably a good chance that someone else feels the exact same way that you do but is also not leaving feedback (most likely due to thinking that "someone else will"). If you've read the section I've linked to, you'll see the developers aren't very interested in feedback that disagrees with them. I've also seen this attitude over a number of issues, especially the move of the Short description functions from Wikidata to Wikipedia. In my experience, the WMF developers don't care what we users think about their changes. So, beyond some occasional complaints, I'm not going to waste my time leaving feedback in which my specific complaints are likely to be ignored, but is also likely to bring in a bunch of developers who will proceed to tell me they don't care what I think, they're going to do whatever the heck the want to because they can, and I must like it. - BilCat (talk) 22:50, 14 November 2018 (UTC)

Hi PTooher, and thanks for leaving me a message here with your question. Your user page was deleted because it appeared to only talk about yourself, and you had made no edits outside of it. I went ahead and restored the page for you and moved it to your sandbox so that you can continue to work on it. Though I have done this for you as a courtesy, I highly recommend that you don't write an article about yourself. It's highly discouraged by the community because this represents a conflict of interest (since, after all, you're writing about yourself). Most articles and content that's written by editors who have a conflict of interest like this eventually wind up being removed, deleted, or reverted and I'd really hate to see your time ultimately wasted like that. Orders of Magnitude

Hi Eli355, and thanks for leaving me a message here with your questions. If the articles, given a deletion discussion, were found to be better suited as a redirect than being an article on its own, it's best to leave them as redirects unless significant events unfold or the notability associated with the individual articles change. Article content is typically turned into a redirect when it's found by consensus to not be notable enough as an article on its own. The content from the page to be converted to a redirect will sometimes be merged or moved to the parent article if it's found that the content is useful as part of a parent article subject. Take a look at this section of Microsoft Windows as a good example of where content is great for being a part of a parent article, but is also notable for having its own article as well. The Windows XP section consists of a well-written summary of an important section of the parent article, Microsoft Windows, but it also contains a link to the full article on Windows XP if the reader wishes to read more about it. In your case, the editors decided in the AFD discussion that the articles were best suited as a section of the parent article instead of being a separate article by itself. If notability changes and its an article subject that should also have its own article, you can write a full article where the redirect is, then link it from the parent article and leave the content moved there originally as a summary (just like the example I linked you to with Windows XP). Just look at the individual AFD discussions and read through the reasons given as to why the article was made into a redirect. They will give you a good idea as to whether or not it's worth it to consider writing an expanded article and link it to the parent from a section. Make sure that you also have strong knowledge and experience on notability before you consider doing so as well, as failing to make an accurate determination of notability for that separate article first will usually result in hours (if not days) of your time ultimately being wasted. In particular, Orders of magnitude (density), Orders of magnitude (momentum), Orders of magnitude (volume) are notable enough to be their own articles, while the others should be in a section of the article that they are redirected to. Eli355 - As far as I know and remember, notability is the main thought that governs the the decision to keep an article as its own or merge/redirect the article into a parent article. The availability and length of content is also important, too - but notability is the most important factor. When you say that you "think that the problem with the three articles listed above is that they do not have enough references" - are you talking about the number of references available to locate and use, or are you referring to the number of references currently cited in each article? Those statements mean two entirely different things, as well as the relevance of their existence in this situation and the implications that follow: One refers just to whether or not there's enough references cited in the article's content (which has nothing to do with the notability of the article subject)... the other refers to the actual availability of secondary reliable references that are independent from the subject (such as what you can find on search engines and in text), which is absolutely a factor determined in establishing notability. Any notable article subject can be expanded into its own article... just write enough content that's supported by reliable sources into its own article, and keep a summary in the parent article that points to the main article on the actual subject. So long as it's different enough from the previous article's content and contains additional content than what it had last time, G4 cannot be applied and (worst case scenario) it'll be discussed again in another AFD. Incorrect data

Ah okay, so you're talking about the notification and alert icons and the row of links that are always on the very top-right corner of every page you visit on Wikipedia. If I remember correctly, there were no notifications at all before the notification and alert icons were first introduced - just the large notification you receive when you have a new message on your user talk page. Other than that, I don't believe that the other links (such as preferences, watchlist, contributions, etc) have changed at all. So basically, you want to remove the notification and alert icons and use the old large template we used to use when you receive a new message. I believe we discussed this before, and someone (I believe MusikAnimal) even chimed in with necessary links to point you in the right direction in order to use the original new message notification. ~Oshwah~^{(talk) (contribs)} 04:54, 15 November 2018 (UTC)

Hmm I don't remember, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen =p Maybe you're talking about User:Writ Keeper/Scripts/oldschoolOrangeBar.js? That's really old though -- the removal of the giant orange "You have new messages" banner happened 5 years ago, well before Thegooduser joined us. Or maybe you're talking about phab:T58845, where the preference to hide the smaller "You have new messages" bar was removed. There are some possible solutions in the comments of that task. Anyway, I will again point y'all to WP:VPT. These people sit around all day hitting refresh, waiting for questions like this, assisted by an army of tech-savvy kittens. The truth is, every time you ask Oshwah or me a tech question directly, one of these kittens will die. Save the kittens and direct your tech inquiries to VPT! It's not just about the kittens though -- asking at VPT has the side effect of helping other people who have the same question. I think you just confused his/her response here (which I read as an exclamation of frustration in general) with incivility towards you. If that's the only diff you have as an example to say that you're biting newcomers, then you're much better than many editors that I've had to talk to about this. Why not follow up with this user, leave him/her a message on their user talk page, and see if they still need help? If they're brand new to Wikipedia, you can point the user to the new user tutorial and recommend that they go through and complete it. PTooher - Oh, and if I didn't mention this earlier: Since you're brand new to Wikipedia, I highly recommend that you go through Wikipedia's new user tutorial and complete it fully. It will provide you with many helpful walkthroughs, guides, interactive lessons, and other information that will be helpful to you (including article creation and content expansion). Most users who take this advice tell me later that it was significantly helpful to them, and led to them being saved hours (or in your case, days) of time and frustration. This is obviously your choice, but I would not skip going through this tutorial. It's for your benefit, and it will definitely help you. (edit conflict) Vdh m - You're of course allowed to file an official complaint with the Wikimedia Foundation if you feel that this is necessary, but you're not allowed to threaten legal action on Wikipedia like what you did here on Lukespen's user talk page. You need to remove that threat from Lukepen's user talk page; it will result in you being indefinitely blocked until you retract this statement if you don't. I just left Lukespen warning for his message on your user talk page and told him that any further harassment toward you (or others) would result in being indefinitely blocked. I'd say that after you remove the threat, report any issues to AN3 or ANI if things continue... stooping to his level and responding to angry messages with even more angry messages will do nothing but make things harder on you... trust me :-). Vdh m - I understand that completely, but we have policies and rules here that have to be followed... which is why I left you a notice when I saw the threats being made. Just keep in mind what I said earlier: stooping to the level of other editors and responding to angry messages with even more angry messages will do nothing but make things worse. It will never make them better. It's always better to report issues to the appropriate noticeboards for help instead of resorting to making threats. There are many different noticeboards that handle different matters that are available to help. The noticeboard for incidents (here) is where you'd report matters such as this (harassment, threats, and BLP issues). If you need anything else, let me know and I'll be happy to help. It depends on the client you use, but you can usually PM individuals by right-clicking on their username and clicking on "PM", "Send private message", "Open dialog window", or similar option. If all else fails, you can also send a PM by entering the command '/msg [username] [message to send]' (so for example: '/msg Oshwah Hey I need your help!'). This method usually just sends a message and doesn't open a separate window, however... I usually tell new users to IRC to start a PM conversation by right-clicking. We typically hang out in the #wikipedia-en channel, and you're always welcome to join, say hi, and chat with us! There are many good editors who frequent this channel (I'm on IRC usually 24/7) and they'll be happy to help you with IRC questions, tips, and other cool stuff - you should come join and say hello! It contains content and information regarding the Law of Return, this section (including the picture) alone show that this article falls within this conflict, and content including, "After capturing the Old City of Jerusalem in 1967, Israel found itself in control of Mount Moriah, which was the site of both Jewish temples and Islam's third holiest site, after those in Mecca and Medina in Saudi Arabia: The Haram al Sharif (Temple Mount) from which Muslims believe that Mohammad ascended to Heaven" - show a history of conflict within this area. For these reasons (and many more that I could list), I cannot remove the extended confirmed protection from the article. However, if you disagree and still feel that it doesn't, you're welcome to file an appeal at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Enforcement to have it reviewed. Don't worry, I won't hold a grudge if you do (lol); what's most important is that the article is properly and accurately handled to reflect Wikipedia policy and actions that are authorized by the Arbitration Committee; it doesn't matter if I'm right or wrong ;-). Hi Oshwah and GeneralizationsAreBad. I just wanted to mention, with the greatest respect to both of you, that I think that this and this are a mistake; that is, that the username JesusFriedChrist (pinging in case they want to look in here) contains enough potential for offence that it would be have been better changed. I am not myself religious but I am well aware that we often try to avoid names that might offend ... whilst I find it only slightly grating, it wouldn't really worry me personally whereas my concern is that someone who was a Christian might find it problematical to try to have a collegial discussion about yoghurt or semicolons or privet hedges with someone whose username they saw as a blasphemy/joke/whatever based on a name that is of great importance to them.

I did read the policy and also watched the cute little video with people saying their usernames and it struck me that many of them are just a straightforward label rather than something (a) you might say immediately after a hammer>thumb interaction and (b) something that might at least potentially offend a minority. I absolutely hate it when bleating Christians go "oh you wouldn't tolerate an attack on Muslims like that" but this one does make me wonder, a touch ... I had better shut up now before I paint myself into a corner here!

Anyway, all that said, I am not about to open an RFC or take Jimbo to the European Court of Human Rights, an ting, over this. I just wanted to record my mild disappointment on this occasion, but place it in the context of my great admiration for the rest of your work, both of you!

You (and anybody else) are always welcome on my user talk page, and your honesty and your input are not only welcome - but they're encouraged... even if they're ill-favorable or in opposition or disagreement with my actions, thoughts, or opinions here. I take no offense, I hold no grudges, and I commend those who do this so that I can respond and work things out. If you know me as well as I'm sure you do, you know that I'm definitely not perfect. Hell, I've made more than my fair share of mistakes over the years that I've been an editor here ;-). However, I've learned that most of the actions I take that are disagreed upon are usually due to me missing something or over a simple misunderstanding, and these messages help resolve them right-quick... so thank you :-)

I didn't see the username as offensive myself, but I may have perhaps translated it incorrectly or missed something. "Jesus Fried Christ" seemed like an insertion of a middle name, and the thought that came to me was "fried chicken", or maybe "fried in hell"? It just seemed very ambiguous to me and didn't explicitly make a statement in my opinion. Usually when I spot a username that's blatantly or obviously offensive and against Wikipedia's username policy, I can see exactly what the username is referring to or trying to convey no question. In this case, I really couldn't... and the response I saw from GeneralizationsAreBad helped assure (in my mind at least) that I wasn't missing something. I'm not passing the buck onto GeneralizationsAreBad at all; I obviously take responsibility for all of my actions and as my own, but it did factor into my thoughts. If you don't mind, can you explain exactly how this username is offensive and what it means? Sometimes I just have to be told in order to go, "Aha!" and understand. I think of myself as pretty "up-to-date" when it comes to things, but I'm not perfect and I will miss things (just like anybody else). To be clear, as a Christian, I do find "JesusFriedChrist" highly offensive, but I understand some may not. One way to determine anti-Christian bias is to change the Christian references to Islamic ones, or some other religion, and watch what happens. Well, one possibility is that is a substitute – returning to my thumb/hammer thing – for the cry "Jesus Fucking Christ!" which I think some would find blasphemous – invoking the great man as a symbol of my anger etc ... seems dodgy, perhaps offensive to Christians? In any case I have to add that I'm not sure that either "Jesus Christ" or "Muhammad", whether fried or raw, would be that great as usernames. The user would presumably not be claiming to BE that person (and if they were we'd have bigger issues to consider right now!) and again some would, I assume, find them offensive because basically they are claiming them for the purpose of levity ... I think in general I'd tend to prefer a path of lesser offence. And maybe the JFC one is a sort of joke in parallel with KFC, and if so is quite funny, but I still think it is perhaps unsuitable for a username here for the reasons I gave before - if it is offensive then it is potentially disruptive because it is going to put the noses out of joint of Christian users who might otherwise want to work collegially with them on a nice article about rivets or bananas. I am not usually massively into censorship but I just think things might work more easily with deliberate good manners. Would I get away with DonaldFriedTrump? I think not ... That could be what the user is trying to do (insert a word instead of fucking in their username), but remember that we assume good faith here. I still think that the username is too ambiguous to block the account - even given the arguments here... I think we should talk to the user as a first step here. If you two both believe the username to be offensive, I think that the solution is for you two to kindly and civilly talk to the user by messaging them on their user talk page and ask what the username is supposed to mean and (if they respond) tell the user how you feel about it. Prisoner (TV series)

Hi Oshwah, thanks for page protecting the Prisoner (TV series) article. As I'm sure you saw, the IP editor was very combative and repeatedly rebuffed requests to discuss the article content, instead preferring to revert any changes I made and leave taunting messages in the edit summaries. I stopped attempting to revert his disruptive editing, and came to the page for protecting articles, but in the meantime he continued his assault on the article. He even left a reference at one point that looked good on its face, but when I found a copy of the book online, of course the page numbers he cited did not at all contain the info he was trying to add to the article.

None of that seriously bothers me, but right before you protected the page, the IP added dozens of "citation needed" tags to the article, and this sarcastic message he left on my talk page explains his rationale. I hope you can take a few seconds to at least revert those last 3 disruptive edits, as they were made by the IP purely to be disruptive.

I have no problem with anonymous IP editors, as for a long time, I made my minor fixes and added references here and there without registering an account. Having registered one now, though, I have to admit that I don't see the benefit so far of having one. It seems that the IP editor can revert over and over, and leave threats and taunts on my talk page, and my attempts to be civil resulted in - nothing. The page is now a bloody mess, because I stopped reverting his changes, and he can merrily move on to a new IP address and not be connected to this incident, while I've been tarred with being party to an edit war that I tried very hard to avoid. It seems as though the system actually favors the disruptive IP editor, at least in this case.Ewen Douglas (talk) 18:52, 16 November 2018 (UTC)

When initially looking at the issue, I was looking through the eyes of someone responding to a protection request. The edits appear to be over content-related matters, and this is why I applied the protection level its set at and responded to the request telling both of you to discuss the matter and come to an agreement. Has this user attempted to work things out with you? Is there an open discussion between you two right now over this article? Apart from the reverts, edit warring, and comments (I haven't yet looked into them to determine if they violate Wikipedia's civility policies but will soon) - I'm just trying to get a sense of how the discussions between you two (if any) are going. It looks like another editor has just reverted the edit adding numerous {{citation needed}} tags here, so you should be at least partially set to go regarding your request. If the user has been uncivil to you, can you provide me a list of diffs that show this? I noted your diff regarding the user's sarcasm here, but if you could provide me with more direct evidence of incivility, it would be extremely helpful in my investigation over the matter. Food Libel Laws Article

Hello Oshwash,

I see that you replaced the "McLibel" Section that I recently deleted from the Food Libel Laws article. Although the article isn't officially region-restricted, I'd argue that everything else about the article points to it referring specifically to food libel laws which have been passed in the US. Indeed, the article's lead section mentions that food libel laws exist in thirteen states. In any respect, libel laws are quite different in the US and the UK, so it would be misleading to have examples of how food libel laws operate in the US and UK intermingled together in one "Notable Examples" section. Perhaps we could compromise and move the McLibel section to the article entitled "English Defamation Laws."

Hi Eli355 - As I probably said in my response to you above (in our discussion about notability), I apologize for the delay responding to your message. I was away for the Thanksgiving holiday and I'm just now getting caught up with all of my Wikipedia messages and emails... I have a lot of them... lol :-). To be able to use AutoWikiBrowser, you need to have the permissions first. It looks like you've requested and were approved for the permissions to use it since you're on the list of approved users. You just need to download and install the program. I believe that it requires a Windows Operating System (Windows Vista or later) to use. Once you've done this and you can launch it and sign in without any errors or trouble, you're all set to begin using it. The user manual that you should refer to and read through entirely is here - you should definitely read it and make sure any specific questions you have are answered before you begin using AWB to make changes on Wikipedia. Remember that you're completely responsible for your edits - even edits made from automated tools like this one. I was approved to use AWB a long time ago and before I was an admin on Wikipedia, but I didn't use it much beyond requesting access, installing the program, launching it, and making maybe one or two changes. I just didn't find the tool right for me. If you have any more questions or need other help, let me know and I'll be happy to answer them or at least find you the person who can :-). Hi JackintheBox! Please accept my apologies for the delay responding to your message here. I was away for the holidays and I'm just now getting caught up with all of my Wikipedia emails, messages, requests, etc... As you can imagine, there's a lot of messages for me to go through :-).

So, the information you pasted here (in general) is an evaluation as to whether or not the particular edit you're looking at is bad faith vandalism or disruption. To be more specific: It is a list of results from Wikipedia's different scoring systems that are given to each edit. They use different methods and processes to determine the likelihood that the edit you're currently reviewing is bad-faith vandalism, harassment, or disruption. With ORES and most other tools and bots (such as ClueBot NG, generally the higher score that an edit is given means a higher probability that the edit is malicious or bad-faith disruption. In the readout that you pasted above: ORES scored the edit a -272, the bot score came out as a 48 (very low), and the ORES Goodfaith score (something I personally haven't looked into much at all) came out as a 364. This readout tells me that edit you were currently looking at on Huggle at the time you copied this information for me to read had a fairly high likelihood of being legitimate and not made in bad faith. You can read more information about these different scoring systems by navigating to the ORES wiki page and ClueBot NG's user page (both I've provided links to above, of course). More information may also be available by looking at Huggle's Manual. Hi Mahathi.Vantedhu! Thanks for leaving me a message here with your question. The page is currently under template protection, meaning that it can only be edited by users who have template editor user rights. It basically makes sure that only trusted users who are vetted and have demonstrated knowledge and proficiency with editing and carefully implementing template code can make changes to those kinds of pages. It prevents someone from messing up a template that's widely used by thousands of articles or visible on a page that receives a high number of views (such as this one) and making a huge mess... lol. No worries though - If you have changes that you think will improve the page, you can still have those changes saved there. All you need to do is create an edit request on the page's talk page and include why it should be updated and what your changes will improve, as well as exactly what on the page needs to be changed or replaced in order to implement your changes and improvements fully. You'll just follow the instructions at the link I provided, save the edit request, and a template editor will review and apply the changes shortly afterwards (assuming they don't find any issues or problems). Do you have your changes saved to a sandbox within your user space or at another location? If so, be sure to include a link to that page in your request as well so that they can view it. It makes life much easier on them by doing so :-). I just got a message from you. I guess I am new to this. This page was removed after many years. It is about the American Artist, Ali Shahroudi. The editor who removed it said he could not find any references. I provided the references by coping the entire page from Everybodywiki.com. He also claimed he could not find the artist on the net! I searched and found many references to him, but it has to have the connection to his style: expromanticism. Please restore the page. That is what I was trying to do.

The article you're referring to (Ali Shahroudi) was recently deleted due to the outcome of an articles for deletion discussion. It ruled by consensus that the article should be deleted and hence this is what happened. The deletion discussion has since closed; you cannot add any input or discussion to it now, but you can view the discussion here if you'd like. I understand that you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and should be restored, but disrupting a Wikipedia shortcut page and replacing it with your modified content is not the proper way to go about resolving this. It's disruptive and can result in being blocked if you were to repeatedly do this (especially despite being asked to stop) - so don't do that ;-).

If you wish to create a new article on this person and with the content and references you found, you can do this by following the instructions available on this page. It will allow you to create a draft article and give you all the time you need to expand and fix everything and have it ready for review, approval, and publishing. Being called names

Spshu - Let me talk to him directly for you and defuse the situation. In general, it is seen as insulting when an experienced editor is left a template like that on their user talk page. It makes them feel belittled, treated like a newbie or an inexperienced user, and it leads to frustration and sometimes uncivil responses in return. Next time, just message him with a quick message and ask him about a certain edit if you have questions. :-)

Usually when I handle cases and situations like this with an informal message and a simple discussion with the user, it takes care of it and things get resolved quickly and peacefully. That's the goal here; we obviously don't want to run at Beyond My Ken guns blazing, wagging my finger, and scolding at him... because, well, obviously that's not going to help... right? :-) In the meantime, just move on, don't provoke anything further, and I'll see what's going and and make sure all is okay. He then jump to protection under BRD "Consider reverting only when necessary. BRD does not encourage reverting, but recognizes that reversions happen. When reverting, be specific about your reasons in the edit summary and use links if needed." He was unspecific in both revert edit summary. He wants to be treated as an experienced editor - act like one. I use templates as to get the point across that it is not just my opinion that xyz (in this case having an edit summary) is an issue. Chris Hathcock - Correct. You don't need to copy the source like that. This script is a gadget, so you just need to go to Special:Preferences, and in the Editing section of the Gadgets tab, check the box next to the "Enable the legacy (2006) editing toolbar" entry (as well as the refToolbar and extra buttons right below it if you want those) and then hit "Save" at the bottom. Also make sure that the "Enable the editing toolbar" option in the Editing tab is unchecked, since that one will override the legacy toolbar if you select it.

FWIW, it's generally not a good idea to copy the source code of a script like that regardless. Instead, if there's a user script you want to install, you add an entry for it in your common.js page, like so: mw.loader.load("/w/index.php?title=<script location>&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript"); So if the script you want to install is located at User:Writ_Keeper/Scripts/legacyToolbar.js, then you'd install it by adding the line mw.loader.load("/w/index.php?title=User:Writ_Keeper/Scripts/legacyToolbar.js&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript"); to your common.js page, instead of actually copying and pasting the code. Removing personal website link from my user page

Hi Oshwah,

I'm a new editor but I don't understand why you removed my personal website and twitter handle from my user page. You cited "Removing per WP:NOTSOCIAL", but the NOTSOCIAL policy contains nothing about whether or not having a personal website or twitter handle is ok or not ok. On the other hand, the guide on user pages states:

"You are also welcome to include a simple link to your personal home page."

This is what I had, alongside my twitter handle. There was no excessive self-promotion and this was not the only thing I had on there (at the moment my user page is short because I'm still building it).

Can you please quote the specific part of the NOTSOCIAL policy which disallows having a personal website and twitter handle listed on the user page?

By the spirit of policy, if a brand new user creates a user page with that kind of content and their lack of other contributions show that they've made no significant edits outside of their user page, we'll either remove the external links from the page or delete the page entirely per U5 or G11 of Wikipedia's speedy deletion criteria. In my experience with patrolling new user account and edit logs for this kind of content, I'd say that per every 100 users that create an account, add this kind of content to their user page - that 95 of them stop editing after this and we don't see them make any more edits again. It appears that I messed up in your case; I believed that you were one of those users and I removed those links based on my concern that you might have one of those users. Please accept my apologies and feel free to restore the content I removed. I hope my response helped you to understand why I do this in most situations. It will provide you with many helpful walkthroughs, guides, interactive lessons, and other information that will be significantly helpful to you. Lindores abbey edit

Hi Oshwah, Many thanks for your message in regard to an edit I made to the Lindores abbey page, and te request that I provide citation. Im afaraid Im not sure how to do that, the info I had is from an archaeology page Im a member of, and was reported in the professional press at the end of November, but the discovery had been made during excavathions over the summer. This is the last reference I could find; it includes photographs.

FlightTime - Hey, sorry for taking so long to respond to your request for help here. The user might not necessarily have to discuss the change they made unless there's previous consensus on the talk page stating otherwise... However, after you reverted the user's edit asking them to do so, at that point the user needs to do respect those wishes and start a discussion. If they haven't done so, I'd start one and include your concerns regarding the edit, then message the user with a link to the discussion. By doing this, you establish a "paper trail"; subsequent reverts to the article are in spite of your request and would be actionable if not stopped.
