Yanara Dag[edit]

HI. Yes I did see it this morning and couldn't find anything to add to it actually. You could contact one of the active Azeri editors and see if they have something more on it perhaps. I think though we should expand articles which are short stubs or are missing and have plenty of sources...♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:14, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

Wow, very impressive.I couldn't find anything on it in google books.. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:18, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

Just for clarification, tomorrow is Thanksgiving and I've been more preoccupied with visiting family than I had anticipated. It's just so nice to be around them this week. But once the holiday weekend is over, I'll resume my work here. --Rosiestep (talk) 02:45, 25 November 2010 (UTC)

Yes very nice but I thought we were doing two articles from one country at once. Like we need another one for Azerbaijan..♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:07, 25 November 2010 (UTC)

OK, we'll need another Finnish one then. I'll try add content in the next few days, right now though I'm feeling very tired.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:21, 25 November 2010 (UTC)

Good job, its tough trying to build upon what you've got because you always make your article very comprehensive. I thought I had found something with the "strong Clorox" remark and it turns out you already found it. I've used that as a hook to nominate it, although I think it still needs a bit more text.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:35, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

Yes I will expand later. Can you add a bit to Cotton production in Azerbaijan?♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:03, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

I'll have my inputs to the lake articles and Maiden Tower completed by Sunday night. You said "The rules of DYK is changing from 1st December." Can you inform me?♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:46, 27 November 2010 (UTC)

I see. OK in that case count me out. I'm no longer going to nominate DYKs myself. I'd be happy to collaborate with you over articles but I've honestly grown tired of DYK. I was going to say something anyway but this definately decides it. I feel my time would be better spent branching out into new topics and evening up coverage without the pressure of having to have DYKs in on time and by their increasingly demanding guidelines..I'm not going to be forced to do work I don't want to do by them, its not worth it. If we forgot about DYK and their "5 x expansion rules" we could expand articles however much we feel like and not have the ongoing pressure to have to add more text to make it "DYK worthy". Can't we go through the A-Z at our own pace and expand what ever we feel like however much we feel like and not bother with DYK? ♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:49, 27 November 2010 (UTC)

I am still happy to work with you on expanding on articles on 2 conditions. That we stop there being an expansion requirement and pressure to expand something and we remove a time limit in which we write articles. I actually think I'd work better without DYK requirements and spending time nominating. It would be so much easier (not to mention much more pleasant) to write articles with you free of DYK constraints and the ongoing "this needs to be nominated by tomorrow" or "needs more text" scenario. It takes a lot of the fun and freedom out of. I know you like having articles on the main page so people can view your work but in my view the page views are unremarkable, the length that they are viewed on the main page is being increasingly shorter so that most of the time I actually miss see it on the main page myself and the increasingly demanding obligations in nominating articles not to mention increasing fuss over hooks are not worth it. We can still list articles we write together on our lists just without the hassle of DYK.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:17, 27 November 2010 (UTC)

I'm going to chime in here to say I'm giving this some thought. I'm one of the few high-volume female contributors to dyk, and I like being a part of it. I don't like someone telling me I have to participate in QPQ, but as I've been a nom reviewer in the past on my own accord, I'll probably acquiesce when it becomes regimented. Rules and rules and more rules, the organizational behavior of wikipedia. --Rosiestep (talk) 20:47, 27 November 2010 (UTC)

I'd be willing to do the nom'ing and QPQ review, but I don't want to feel overwhelmed or to be worried about missing a deadline... we do want this to be fun. Also you or DrB could nom an article same as usual, and I could do the QPQ review? Do you think that could work? --Rosiestep (talk) 03:51, 28 November 2010 (UTC)

You said something a few days ago about the weather. Cold or hot? Its extremely cold in the UK at the moment, 15 inches of snow up in Scotland. Its difficult typing today because I have such cold hands!♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:08, 28 November 2010 (UTC)

Maiden Tower is done,I couldn't access the other link you gave me, it was a dead URL.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:52, 28 November 2010 (UTC)

Excellent work with Lake Burton, very scientific stuff. I've completed my inputs to both articles. Please nominate. I will begin on American Samoa tonight. I promise will stop moaning about DYK providing we can write the articles at least between you and I in your sandboxes and I stay away from nominating them... Please nominate the cotton article. I'll ask Rosie if she wants to add anything.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:29, 28 November 2010 (UTC)

Well? What's the problem with the weather where you are? I got out of bed this morning and I literally froze!! I have no idea what India is like at this time of year. Where are you Delhi isn't it? I do wish other editors were as professional as you on here, in fact if they were more strict in writing articles instead of trying to govern the site we'd be far better off. I don't mind certain rules and expectations but sometimes decisions are made on here which I think affect our freedom and good-will as editors. This is why I'm not happy with the increasing expectations with DYK as we are already doing enough work writing articles. Maybe reviewing other peoples articles will be a lot easier and quicker than I anticipated, I hope so. I would prefer it to be optional though rather than compulsory, much like our article writing. Anyway, have you begun with American Samoa yet. If so or not can you allocate a sandbox to write it and I'll begin later. If we could go back to the sandbox system between us I'd be a lot happier at at least there is no time limit... ♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:46, 28 November 2010 (UTC)

Ok, I'll try out sandbox article writing. I haven't done that before. Just let me know. --Rosiestep (talk) 17:10, 28 November 2010 (UTC)

As I haven't worked on any of these (Rice production in Azerbaijan, Maiden Tower (Baku) and Lake Burton, Antarctica), I'll let someone else do the nominating. I'd be delighted to work on Coffee production in India and, BTW, would like to work on coffee production in other countries, i.e. those in Central America, as well. --Rosiestep (talk) 02:51, 29 November 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, I started off the coffee series on here with articles like Coffee production in Costa Rica...♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:51, 29 November 2010 (UTC)

Oh no, I wrote the Costa rica coffee article back in 2008. I meant that I created most of the earlier ones we have. I also started the series we have on rice production...♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:37, 29 November 2010 (UTC)

Health-permitting I will add my inputs to the indian coffee article tomorrow. My chest came over tight all of a sudden with breathing difficulties. Hopefully I'll feel better tomorrow.♦ Dr. Blofeld 22:21, 29 November 2010 (UTC)

Just got up, couldn't sleep all night because of it. I'll see how it goes today. I'm sitting by the heater anyway.. You've probably caught part of the cold currents we've experienced over here which has gradually moved east. Its bitterly cold here at the moment and lot of people are ill and dying of pneumonia etc. much like Leslie Nielsen did. I'll try to research a bit of Indian coffee today while I feel up to it.♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:07, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

Can you create a table in the production section by transferring the data in this table?Dr. Blofeld 17:41, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

I've expanded Coffee production in India. --Rosiestep (talk) 05:32, 1 December 2010 (UTC)

I did try to add a map the other day but the OSM map server wouldn't let me take a map of the scale I wanted. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:18, 1 December 2010 (UTC)

BTW you are aware that I have added info to the coffee production in India article?♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:28, 1 December 2010 (UTC)

Oh OK, I thought you had thought Rosie had done all of the expansion! I will add more on production later..♦ Dr. Blofeld

Tomorrow. I'll work on it this evening and try to make it even more comprehensive. Coffee is not something I've ever associated with India, that has been tea and rice! I'm stubbing some Lithuanian towns at the moment. I'll let you know when my input is done. Regards.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:54, 1 December 2010 (UTC)

I've completed my inputs to the coffee article and posted it. Please nominate.♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:53, 1 December 2010 (UTC)

I nom'ed Coffee production in India. I wanted to bring this up as it's making me a bit uneasy... as the article was expanded in sandbox, the content each of us addednk isn't accounted for... but as you've done this before, what are your thoughts? --Rosiestep (talk) 05:27, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

I did notice Dr.B's edit summary crediting all 3 of us; I have no issue with that. However, for future articles, it seems prudent for edit history to be viewable when there are multiple editors. When there's only one editor, working in a sandbox doesn't pose a problem as all the content is attributable to that 1 person once it reaches mainspace. --Rosiestep (talk) 06:32, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

Yeah I agree Rosie, that's why I didn't used to like writing articles in sandboxes because when they are copied and pasted into workspace it didn't actually reflect how much work went into the article. I would rather write articles in the mainspace, the only problem is with DYK there is a time limit and I don't like to feel rushed. BTW if you tried to move you sandbox into the mainspace it wouldn't allow you because the Coffee production article already existed. Besides that particular sandbox has tons of earlier article writing history. What I recommend is we write the article e.g User:Nvvchar/Coffee production in India in a fresh new sandbox and delete it afterwards after an admin has moved its history into the mainspace to overide it. Rosie you are an admin and should be able to do that ok?♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:43, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

Yes that would be better, no rush then. Great sart. I'll look at it in a few hours time...♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:57, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

Hey buddy I'll begin working on that Azores article tomorrow, I'm in the musical writing mood today!♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:30, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

Hello. I've expanded Gruta das Torres, though there were few additional resources. --Rosiestep (talk) 05:06, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

I've added all I could to Monchique Islet, not much on it all except scraps in very old books..♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:22, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

Tomorrow, I'll add a bit more to Monchique Islet and I'll also take a look at moving the articles. --Rosiestep (talk) 04:12, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

OK I'm done with Gruta das Torres, pretty comprehensive as usual. Howwver we need to be firm and consistent with how many caves there are. The article claims 17, 28 and even 81!♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:29, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

I'm done with my edits to Monchique Islet. It doesn't appear to meet the 5x expansion requirement; could you doublecheck? Thanks. --Rosiestep (talk) 22:16, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

I've moved the contents from your sandbox to Gruta das Torres; please do not edit the sandbox edition anymore. It will need to be deleted later. --Rosiestep (talk) 01:24, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

Hotel fires[edit]

Can you help write History of hotel fires in the United States? They are mostly all very notable fires which took places in the given years. If you google the hotel name and date and fire you should find plenty in google books and on the web. Rosie wanted to expand Nevada County, California but it may require a lot of work to get it beyond the x5 expansion. Please consider it, if you think it too much please pick another American article to write of your choice.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:37, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

If we can get a minimum length paragraph for each event like Kerns Hotel this will be fine. Its actually quite interesting once you research it, looking through old newspaper archives and books etc of the history of the cities..♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:19, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

OK. Well actually it was not initially my intention to collaborate over it, otherwise I'd have done ir in your sandbox. PLenty of time, don' worry. Thanks.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:35, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

I just nom'ed History of hotel fires in the United States. You're good at adding a photo to a dyk nom, and as there is one that matches up with this hook, please add it if you agree it might enhance the hook. Thanks! --Rosiestep (talk) 21:28, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

We still need to add some flesh to the one line sections in the hotel article though. I've started on User:Nvvchar/Belize Evangelical Mennonite Church there is more info in ref 1 in the concise encyclopedia and should be other sources to write a start class article.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:46, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

PLease expand the Ozark hotel section using the sources provided and try to expand the Winecoff Hotel section three fold as it should be longest section woth some chunky paragraph as the worst incident.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:19, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

Can you also try and get into the habit of refeencing claims within the middle of paragraphs. I've noticed you tend to add double citations at the beginning sentence and end sentence often but claims within the centre of the paragraph are not sourced. Please try to spread the sources evenly and source every factual claim as then I can also see where you got the info from.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:26, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

It was fine until User talk:Zeorymer start writing the article in the mainspace. I';ve spoken to him about it and to Material scientist to move it for us. He wasn't to know but bad timing all the same.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:50, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

I nom'ed Gruta; can you add photo? Islet is not 5x yet. --Rosiestep (talk) 03:15, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

I've completed my expansion of User:Nvvchar/Belize Evangelical Mennonite Church. There were very few book refs available. --Rosiestep (talk) 04:15, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

Islet: If it doesn't make 5x, that's ok; we tried... and we definitely improved what was there before. --Rosiestep (talk) 05:52, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

An article with Zeorymer is currently undergoing translation in your sandbox for the Azores. Portuguese is a little awkward in google translation so its best to wait until it is translated by the native speaker. I've added maps to Wachau, I will add my content in a day or two. The New Advent encyclopedia I'm checking because I suspect it is a copyvio or if it is public domain I need it confirmed so we can use it. Yikes I have 225 people watching my talk page! If you consider that Jimmy Wales himself only has ten times as many talk page watchers and the majority of people watch his page for arbitration/dispute purposes its quite remarkable really!!.. Maybe some people find me interesting... ♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:24, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

Wachau article: Regarding the last para of the lead that you had me review, I can't find "die Wachau" in the reference. Did I just miss it, or is there another reference? --Rosiestep (talk) 02:30, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

Thankyou very much! Of course it helps having wonderful collaborators! Very good choice with Wachau. I love Austria, Switzerland and Italy. Yes, see what I mean about the Portuguese google translate. No rush we'll wait until he has translated. There's plenty to be getting on with. When we come to Belgium I want to do one of the abbeys, probably one of the missing ones.♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:17, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

I've started User:Nvvchar/Velenje Castle.♦ Dr. Blofeld 22:26, 8 December 2010 (UTC)

Very good, I'll see if I can add more on the Spitz paragraph to the Wachau article tomorrow.♦ Dr. Blofeld 22:49, 9 December 2010 (UTC)

User:Nvvchar/Terra Chã is now translated.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:12, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

Hope you don't mind but I've moved the info to Velenje Castle "the old way" so as to also credit User:Kebeta who started the article, I spotted the article on the new pages..You may wish to nominate.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:21, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

Can you try to expand Kukra River, a river of Nicaragua?♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:46, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

That shouldn't happen because when I have an edit conflict the text should still be there, you just click back a page. I strongly recommend you either get into the habit of copying the text by right clicking the mouse before saving or leave a Template:Inuse tag at the top of the page to indicate to me you are in the middle of writing it. I suggested this during the writing of Montevideo but you didn't take my advice and use it.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:50, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

Terraced vineyards in the Wachau region.

Sorry if I've been distracted the last few days... I've been trying to finish up a group of articles who refs I bookmarked a long time ago, which all started with an interesting fellow from the Frisian Islands who ended up in the Inland Empire (So Cal), a place near and dear to me. I think someone else should move Wachau into main space; I can move the article but I'm unclear on how to move the history which we agreed was important. Once in main space, I'll go ahead and nom it. Thanks! --Rosiestep (talk) 16:17, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

Hey can you look into La Salle Hotel this week sometime. this has info on its grand rooms, those old postcard images can be uploaded under a 70 years old license I think. There should be plenty of sources on it.

For once we have a lot of images. 22 images uploaded!Dr. Blofeld 17:30, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

I nom'ed Wachau. You may want to add a photo such as this one? I had placed Dr. B as the 2nd writer (you the first); did that not show up? I looked over the Wachau article but I haven't doublechecked the refs that you or Dr. B used; I'm assuming that are ok. (I know that mine are ok.) The comment about Gruta das Torres seems to say that the reviewer only finds the Borges ref to be reliable when it comes to measurements. If you agree, then every measurement that isn't supported by Borges should be removed from the Gruta article and every measurement that we keep in the Gruta article that comes from the Borges article should have an inline citation. Do you think that's what the reviewer wants and do you want to do this? I think responding to the DYK comment itself will have to come after the changes are made. I think that there are a lot of measurements in the Gruta article that lack an inline citation and that makes me nervous. --Rosiestep (talk) 06:18, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

See Wachau dyk nom comment about last para in Burgruine Aggstein section. I don't know who wrote this section (you? Dr. B?) Thanks! --Rosiestep (talk) 06:29, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

Yes another river will be fine.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:16, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

Looks great, can you think of a hook?♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:40, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

Looks good! I also noticed your comments at Gruta dyk. I believe one of the hook's should get approved now that the lengths and rankings are clarified with an inline citation to Ref1. Thank you, Nvv. --Rosiestep (talk) 02:46, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

island[edit]

Instead of working on something new and interesting like San Andrés (island), I spent my morning dealing with the proposed deletion of Journal of Indigenous Studies. I saw that you and Dr. B are working on San Andrés, and there are maybe 2 other articles that Dr. B mentioned that are in progress. Let me see what I can do right now. --Rosiestep (talk) 03:01, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

If it doesn't have one already, can you or Dr. B add a citation to any para that is missing one in San Andrés (island)? Inline citations are best, but end of para will do. Also, IMHO, any sentence that includes a "number" (date, measurement, etc.) should have an inline citation so everyone understands its attribution. I'll leave the same note at Dr. B's pg. Note, I've completed the copyediting. I didn't add any new content (but the article is quite comprehensive as is). Thank you. --Rosiestep (talk) 04:01, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

Terra Cha is ready for your inputs in your sandbox having been translated. Do you think you could find enough to expand Somalia Water and Land Information Management Project? ♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:47, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

Do you recall what I said about DYK? ♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:15, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

Yes I did read all that on Gruta. I'll take another pass at San Andres tonight and then Terra Cha. --Rosiestep (talk) 15:43, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

Please see the comment by Agnes27 on my talk page about the Wachau article. I did ask her to look into the wine section as she is an expert in that field.♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:26, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

I don't think I should create a new hook for Gruta or Wachau as both were rejected. I don't take any of it personally, and I'm not bashful about creating hooks in general. I just think that I should let someone else do it next. --Rosiestep (talk) 05:27, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

I can't find the page that cites your suggested hook for San Andres island. When I click on that particular sentence's inline citation, it takes me to pg. 231. The person who wrote the ref has indicated it should be on pg 68-69, but I can't access those 2 pages. --Rosiestep (talk) 06:23, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

I'm not sure I can be much more help on Gruta as I did my research on it while working on it initially and I exhausted what I could find. As for Wachau, it's a much larger undertaking, more comprehensive, than I commonly participate in. If you take a look at my usual projects, I like to get an article up to Start class, nom it, and then move on to something else. My thought is that if I start it, someone else will come along and expand it later. If I spend time on creating an expansive, more comprehensive article, look at all the articles I didn't create or co-contribute to. For sure, it's a matter of how to divide up time. As I work at a Full-Time job and have family commitments, too, I just prefer letting go of articles when they are smaller. Note, I've never participated in a GA or FA. As for dyk, I'm delighted with the articles that appear on main page, but I don't fret about the ones that don't make the cut as it's ok not to be perfect. I hope I don't sound disrespectful for that isn't my intent... just wanted to share my thoughts. --Rosiestep (talk) 06:45, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

Yeah I know what she means, sometimes the effort needed to pass DYK requirement takes a lot out of you, you yourself said your energy was drained. If you are interested I've expanded Anortė Mackelaitė and started Anykščiai Church. The latter is the tallest church in Lithuania. You and Rosie may be interested at least in expanding the church article. It could do with translation from Lithuanian I think though... I want to nominate both articles as a double hook.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:34, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

Both Wachau and San Andres should be OK now. Gruta de Torres has some issues over sources it seems, I do hope Material Scientist being a geology expert can help, it would be a pity for it not to appear as a DYK as two Azores articles now have gone under.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:41, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

Excellent work!♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:08, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

Regarding the San Andres hook that you suggested, I'm concerned there may be some comments made by reviewers that the quoted statement is about the archipelago, not the island itself. Another hook suggestion? --Rosiestep (talk) 04:29, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

Good hook choice! I nom'ed San Andrés (island). --Rosiestep (talk) 05:35, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

Yes, an image of San Andres island would be nice. Question: in the La Salle Hotel article, there are 2 references at the end of the ex-officio White House sentence... one to a book which does mention the ex-officio White House... the other to a website that doesn't or at least I can find it. Help? --Rosiestep (talk) 05:50, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

Regarding La Salle Hotel, ex-officio White House: Ref2 mentions the ex-officio White House, and it's from a book, so it's a keeper. Ref8 does not mention ex-officio White House, so I think it should be moved elsewhere or removed altogether, please. La Salle Hotel photo for dyk: The one that's in the infobox seems nice. --Rosiestep (talk) 06:49, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

I already nominated the Lithuanian church. I will begin on the Andorran lake later.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:37, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

You are invited to help expand Richmond Theatre fire, there is tons of info in the bibliography source and other sources. At the time it was the worst urban disaster in American history.. It's an article Ser Amantio and I want to get up to GA level by the 200th anniversary of the fire, so help is appreciated! If not don't worry about it.♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:52, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

DYK for Gruta das Torres[edit]

Materialscientist (talk) 12:03, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

I tip my hat to you, Nvv, for your perseverance with the Gruta article! As for Wachau, I mvd the North Carolina para into its own section, and stated so on the article's talk pg. --Rosiestep (talk) 03:54, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for your inputs. The thing though is that the bulk of the article is intended to be about the fire as a historic disaster rather than the architecture of the original theatre or the Monumental Church. That information should be written in a seperate article about the theatre Richmond Theatre which doesn't exist... or in Monnumental Church article itself. It was intended to be a summary. The article needs to be more focused on the fire itself I think. I've moved the architecture info to a section in Monumental Church, hope this is OK.. I will begin on the Andorra lake shortly.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:45, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

I've completed my inputs to Engolasters. I could not find much info about it.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:23, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

I know you were evading doing American Samoa so I created Hurricane Val. The LDS source has some more on relief but be careful as they are a church and only talk about the relief they gave, not others. It shouldn't require much work. As Rosie said, I'd rather we put in the bare minimum content and did more articles than working heavily on one, but inevitably some will require more work than others to be comprehensive. PLease expand. I'll find a satellite image.. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:32, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

I've made a start on User:Nvvchar/Plas yn Rhiw, an interesting manor in northwestern Wales, my home country. You may find it interesting. That'll do for for now, plenty to be getting on with!♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:07, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

Seems we got our map for Great Tenasserim River basin afterwards. FOr some reason though you forgot to add our Burmese DYKs to the country A-Z. Can you add them? ♦ Dr. Blofeld 22:43, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

I see we are both working on User:Nvvchar/Plas yn Rhiw; I will stop for now. :) --Rosiestep (talk) 03:05, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

I've completed my work on User:Nvvchar/Plas yn Rhiw. They only thing I'm unclear on is the 150 acres vs. 400 acres. Can you or Dr. B clarify? Thanks. --Rosiestep (talk) 07:01, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

Excellent. What book does Price refer to in Plas yn Rhiw?♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:03, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

Maximum wind speed was said to be 160 mph I think. I've nominated pur recent articles except Engolasters. Is this a big enough expansion?♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:27, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

OK. You could ask User:Julian Colton who I know has a number of featured articles related to meteorology.♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:02, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

Yes I will add to the American Samoan island later, can you upload some photos from here, there is one of a damaged yacht from the 2009 tsunami. Can you expand Batuan, Bali? This is a great source It might even be enough for an article on Batuan paintings. It is currently planned to AFD it as "non notable" which really is misguided which is why a notbaility tag has been placed on it. It is a very notable artistic centre on Bali which you might find interesting. I want to prove to these people it is notable.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:26, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

I also need your help with Sausapor. The Operation Globetrotter part needs elaborating from that book source or any others. Also you might find more info under the name Sansapor. This is a good source.♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:58, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

Excellent work, per usual.. That should show em!♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:25, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Ca you think of a hook? A hook about it being a major arts centre perhaps needs a citation in the intro.♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:00, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Don't forget the Terra Chã article!♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:40, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Can you see if you can find some additional sources for Alvingham Priory and Sempringham Priory? Its public domain text but could be made more comprehensive I think and some of the warbling cut down.It might interest you that a lot of text written from a book pre 1923 on that site you can freely copy. We have a lot of short articles I've noticed on British abbeys which would require only a few minutes work for DYK expansions if you can find public domain text on it. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:41, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

This is how the UK looks at the moment from space. See what I mean.♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:03, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

DYK for San Andrés (island)[edit]

Materialscientist (talk) 00:04, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

A present from me[edit]

See http://reftag.appspot.com/. You can paste in the url of a google book source and it will draw the ref up for you instantly. I will show you how to programme your monobook so you can have a gb ref icon on the itinery at the top of the page. Let me know which skin you use and what web browswe and I'll show you. It should greatly cut down on time drawing up references.♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:41, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Nice work! Yeah it saves a lot of time and I can add more sources than I normally have time or the patience for.

OK. Go into your preferences. Depending on whether you use a monobook or vector standard skin Click monobook js or vector js at the end. Copy the follow text and paste it in: The first is a quick link to google books to save you having to go externally. The second is your google book ref tools to quick draw up citations:

addOnloadHook(function() {
  addPortletLink('p-cactions','http://books.google.com/','GB','ca-gb');
  });
addOnloadHook(function() {
  addPortletLink('p-cactions','http://reftag.appspot.com/','GB ref','ca-gb ref');
  });

OK save it. Now hold down Ctrl, Shift (upwards arrow on mine) and r if you are using Mozilla firefox browser. Now move on and the two highly useful links should be reasily accesible at the top of your toolbar next to history, move, watch etc.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:07, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

Looks very nice. Did the above coding work?♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:23, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

Which web browser are you currently using? Is it Internet Explorer? Try holding down Control and the F5 button at the top. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:06, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

...that 11 out of 19 species of land snails found on the island of Tutuila are endemic? Needs citation though.♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:12, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

Glad to hear it. Obviously then you are using Internet Explorer browser. i'm having a quiet one today but maybe this evening I'll begin on one of those you mentioned.♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:30, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

Na, not Christmasy. Just because they are Christianity monasteries doesn't make it Christmasy. We could do a Christmas one if you wish but we have a lot of articles covering a lot of it already.♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:39, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

One I can think of is Christmas tree production in Scandinavia, Noraway and Sweden but I can't seem to find any sources on it.♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:54, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

Sausapor - I nom'ed it. --Rosiestep (talk) 05:07, 22 December 2010 (UTC)

Coma Pedrosa - I edited it and added what I could but there wasn't much to find outside of the travel books. I had worked on Batuan, Bali previously. These are probably both ready for noms? --Rosiestep (talk) 15:32, 22 December 2010 (UTC)

Yeah I couldn't find much either.♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:35, 22 December 2010 (UTC)

Batuan, Bali and Coma Pedrosa - nom'ed them. IMO, the priories need some work, specifically condense or re-word of the pub dom text before nom as dky articles are 'new content'. --Rosiestep (talk) 05:19, 23 December 2010 (UTC)

Caves of Aruba - did some copyediting but couldn't find additional content... mostly the info is in guide books that are already covered. --Rosiestep (talk) 01:54, 24 December 2010 (UTC)

You too friend, Happy Christmas and all the best for the NewYear! Amazing how quick the last year has gone! I was only looking back through some of our articles the other day and thinking what great work we've produced together!! My editing will be reduced over the next few days though for obvious reasons... I will look at Aruba later but may not have time for the other Andorran article.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:22, 24 December 2010 (UTC)

I wondered if you would be interested in expanding Jamaica Inn. It has an extremely interesting history and was frequented by highwaymen. Its like something out of a Robert Louis Stevenson novel. I wonder if there are enough sources to qualify for a x5 expansion. Have a watch of this Fascinating stuff..♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:50, 24 December 2010 (UTC)

Very nice, I'll see if I can add anything more. It really is a fascinating place. Sorry for my lack of presence here the last five or so days, its Christmas!!♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:28, 27 December 2010 (UTC)

Hope you enjoyed writing about it.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:40, 27 December 2010 (UTC)

Songgwangsa[edit]

Can you fix the references for the temple. It should only be p.49. p.50 etc. As it stands there are three difference types of source listings for the same pages in the book.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:03, 30 December 2010 (UTC)

Please request that they are moved into the mainspace. Thanks.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:44, 30 December 2010 (UTC)

Who founded Songgwangsa and when is unclear... there are 3 different sentences mentioning 3 dynasties and 2 people so I've placed 3 "citation needed" tags at the end of these sentences. I want to expand Saint Barthélemy x5. It has 15 kilobytes of prose so would need to be 90 kilobytes, pretty normal for an article on an entity. Only though if there are plenty of sources to do so. Interesting. You mean No One Killed Jessica I gather. Did the family drag you along to see it or something as I know you said you aren't a movie buff.. Thanks for your input to Sampit. Hello Nvvchar, I was wondering whether you have a reference for the claim in the lede? The reference given doesn't contain that statement. Thanks, Ericoides (talk) 06:19, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

Well that's too bad about dyk declines for Saint Barthélemy and Ariko Rock Formations but there are some lessons learned here. On Malibou Lake, I agree that it won't get to 5x; I was working on that one at the suggestion of Dr.B; not sure if he had plans to add other reference materials. See dyk comments on Terra Chã... is there a problem with expanding in sandbox? --Rosiestep (talk) 03:35, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

Hi. Malibu Lake is waiting to hit to front page. I recently saw the Douche editor kicking up a fuss over the Saint Barts article. His existence we could never have known. he's been inactive since 2007, obviously has some personal grievances related to its history which would account for his rant. I've given it a copyedit, but when you return can you please check to see that the information given is flly verifiable in the sources and that the Sullivan sources have the correct actual book page numbers. Most of the Saint Barts info should be like on page 170 etc not 22 at the beginning of the book. It should be fine then. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:29, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

OK but I hope it has nothing to do with the unpleasant, critical person hounding the Saint Barts article. All it needs is for you to correct the page numbers of the Sullivan book.. I've improved it a little. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:45, 16 January 2011 (UTC)

Hi! I realized that your DYK hook was rejected due to insufficient refernces in the relating article. I am not sure whether you tried to find sources via the template:findsources. Maybe that can be helpful. Cheers. CeeGee (talk) 13:33, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

Salmon Creek Dam[edit]

I saw your GA nomination of Salmon Creek Dam and noticed someone recently tagged a section in the article for lacking citations. I don't want to see the article quick-failed because of this. It also seems like all the references for most paragraph may have been lumped at the end in a series of citations. Do all of these citations apply to the entire paragraph? Could you address these issues or withdraw it? I'd be happy to review the article when ready.--NortyNort (Holla) 01:58, 15 January 2011 (UTC)

Ok, I'll probably start the review this weekend. The dam would be a nice GA addition.--NortyNort (Holla) 14:15, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
I provided initial comments and put the article on hold. All I have left to review is the references and pictures.--NortyNort (Holla) 13:50, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
Ok, there are just three comments left down at the bottom of the review.--NortyNort (Holla) 21:46, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
No problem. Nothing like a trip that helps inspire some article creation. I think getting your own pictures of something no one has helps a lot too. I am living on Okinawa for the next few months and I want to make a visit to the Okinawa Yanbaru Seawater Pumped Storage Power Station in order to get some better photos and expand the article as well. Have a good time in Rajasthan, I look forward to seeing some articles come out of that too.--NortyNort (Holla) 11:53, 20 January 2011 (UTC)

university[edit]

Expanding the University of Cambodia may interest you. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:53, 16 January 2011 (UTC)

And thanks for your additions. Glad we could all participate. I added you on the credits. Fascinating to think that such a university exists but there was no article about it on en wiki. Perhaps there's one on the khmer lang wiki but I don't know how to check for that. --Rosiestep (talk) 02:52, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

Yes I will look into that later thanks. Don't be offended by Doulcy. Scum of the earth like that aren't worth the light of day. They do absolutely nothing to contribute to wikipedia but when somebody works hard on an article like think they govern it because they are familiar with the place and they'll happily insult your work and place scores of unnecessary tags all over it. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:51, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

Had to finish something else tonight so I'll start on Samrong Sen and/or Chinit River tomorrow. --Rosiestep (talk) 06:10, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

I'm looking at User:Nvvchar/Chinit River now. I was wondering why the article name is Chinit River when all the refs I looked at call it the Stung Chinit River? --Rosiestep (talk) 04:17, 22 January 2011 (UTC)

Uíge Province - is the climate temperate or tropical? Both are mentioned. Maybe ok to have both? --Rosiestep (talk) 07:43, 22 January 2011 (UTC) Oops; the photo in the infobox is of a place named Uig, in Scotland; needs to be changed. Got through some of the copyediting and will work on it some more tomorrow. --Rosiestep (talk) 08:38, 22 January 2011 (UTC)

Stung Chinit River:

  1. I'd like to clarify the river location. As we have a reference stating the river source is in the Bolaven Plateau (which is in Laos), do we need to mention that it is a river of Cambodia and Laos? Also, a reference states that the river is located in Kampong Thom Province, but as this province does not abut Laos, we should mention another province(s), too, right?
  2. Also, in the Geography section, in para2, I found mention of 3 of the 4 geo places that are redlinked so ok to leave them as such. However, I did not find anything about a geo place "Phnon" and was wondering if you have any resources on it or maybe an alt spelling? --Rosiestep (talk) 18:58, 22 January 2011 (UTC)

You may be interested in expanding raiyat; there are many refs in addition to the ones that I barely mined. It would make for a double with zerat. --Rosiestep (talk) 21:21, 22 January 2011 (UTC)

Dharmic Projects, Imperial Reservoirs and New Temples of India[edit]

Belated Happy Pongal. I just came across this paper which You may be interested in.

You may already know of the author as she has been writing on the subject since at least 1995.
Dharmic Projects, Imperial Reservoirs, and New Temples of India: An Historical Perspective on Dams in India,
Kathleen D. Morrison, Department of Anthropology, 1126 East 59th Street, Chicago, IL 60637

I'll be interested in your reaction to her thinking. In Tamil Nadu recently there has been some effort to revitalize some of the old tanks, with the irrigation Dept. purchasing heavy earth moving equipment for the purpose. Maybe you can find incentive for another new article here? I'm sure you will find her extensive references cited to be interesting and perhaps familiar.-Marcus334 (Talk) 05:50, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

DYK Makara[edit]

Thank You very much for your incitefull expansion of Makara (Hindu mythology). You have upgraded the quality of the article by a notch. That was not my intention nor was it my intention to make it a DYK I just thought that, knowing that you are a devout Vaishnavite, this article would interest you. If you agree that the article is now 'C-class' please make the change. I don't think we need a committee for that.

My originial reason for getting involved in the article is that I have been working on articles relating to Gharial crocodiles as a result of Jairam Ramesh recently declaring major project for protecting the crocodiles at National Chambal Sanctuary.

Anyway, I have prepared a DYK nomination. rollover and alttext don't seem to be working. The hook is accurate but not too catchy, can you suggest any alt hook/s? Will you correct it, add yourself as co-author and nominate it please.

Originial hook is bad. The word Anthromorphism isn't even used in the article. IMHO, your new vedic hook is good but I think my alt hook above is more interesting and is better with vedic used instead of Hindu. Whatever. Your decision, I defer.-Marcus334 (Talk) 17:59, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

Sathyamangalam_Tiger_Reserve[edit]

Can you check out Sathyamangalam_Tiger_Reserve which I nominated on Jan. 6. It was reviewed, I made corrections by Jan.12 and nothing has happened since. Is there some deadline for confirmation?

Excellent, I will attend to both this evening.♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:14, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

  • You said:"I have made some changes in the lead section of Sathyamangalam Wildllife Sanctuary and also did minor editing. Please check the combined figures of the area under the five regions of the reserve vis-a-vis the figure given in the lead. You may have to change the header title also to reflect this. I have also left a note below yours in the DYK talk page.--Nvvchar. 07:59, 19 January 2011 (UTC)"
  • Thanks for your many small corrections to the article I cleaned up sentance structure in lead paragraph and converted areas from ha to km2. (524.35 km2 in lead = 223.26 km2 + 301.09 km2) in 2nd para of Location. Should be ok now.-Marcus334 (Talk) 00:03, 20 January 2011 (UTC)

Yes I will complete my inputs to Chinit river tomorrow and then they'll both be ready for posting. I came across Zerat by accident. It is an agricultural system of early colonial India. I thought you might be interested in expanding it?♦ Dr. Blofeld 22:20, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

Good work! I also noticed Man-made lentic water bodies of Maharashtra is up for deletion. I wonderd if you'd be interest in saving it?♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:36, 22 January 2011 (UTC)

Chinit River[edit]

Are you sure the coordinates of Chinit River are correct?♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:57, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

Click here. There's no river there. The reason I ask is because I want to make a map of the Chinit River but do not know where it is...♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:06, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

Are you completely certain of the length too. Cambodia is a small country, 264 kilometres seems frightfully long... Chinit isn't another name for the Mekong river or something is it?♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:13, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

I've figured it out. The river is looped which accounts for its long length. I've created File:Chinit River.png. Thiose coordinates are definately not correct though.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:43, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

I gather the source is the lake and the mouth where it joins the river downstream. I've worked out the exact coordinates of the source at 12 31 38 104 27 31. Working out the mouth will be very tough as the Ton Lap is dispersed with many arteries making it difficult to pinpoint. I'm certain of the where it starts at the lake though..♦ Dr. Blofeld

It needs clarifying which is the source and which is the mouth. At present the geography section infers that the Tonle Sap lake end is the mouth where the river ends but the coordinates state the opposite. I also suspect that Stung Sen River is the same river, because Kampong Thom City appears to lie along the river.. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:03, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

The mouth/source is still contradictory. You've claimed that the source is in the Bolaven Plateau. But its source is either the river or Tonle Sap Lake. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:22, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

I nomed Chinit River before I saw these messages; are these issues resolved? I also nomed Uíge Province. --Rosiestep (talk) 20:25, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

I redirected raiyat to ryot so that one doesn't need to be worked on after all. However, Zerat is ready for nom. --Rosiestep (talk) 02:05, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

Thank you. I can't find much more either except that I may add something about the other museum in the town as a differentiator. I think it's otherwise ready for nom. --Rosiestep (talk) 06:12, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

Organ Pipes Nat Pk, great article. As all 4 refs begin with the word "Organ", it's unclear what these refer to --- Organ,p.1-9; Organ,p.1-3; Organ,p.7”; Organ, p.11; Organ, p.7; Organ, p.8; Organ, p.8-9; Organ, p.5 --- though I'm guessing it's the Management Plan, and if so, I'll rename. Also, just as a friendly FYI, the spacing should be "Organ, p. 1-9" instead of "Organ,p.1-9", per WP:FOOT (Clint Eastwood is visually an easy example). Thanks! --Rosiestep (talk) 03:42, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

Welcome back. I added content and fixed the refs on Organ Pipes Nat Pk in the last day or two. I'll do that Kwango River copyedit tonight. --Rosiestep (talk) 15:12, 28 January 2011 (UTC)

I did the Kwango River copyedit including removing content that I didn't believe needed to be included; I could be wrong so please doublecheck. Also note that my copyediting did not take into consideration article size specifications, something else that should be verified as this article is already at dyk. Also as there's an img of Tazua Falls in the article infobox, Tazua Falls should be mentioned in the article but I couldn't find a google book mention; maybe you have other resources? --Rosiestep (talk) 05:04, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

Note[edit]

I'm afraid I have a lot of work to do on here at the moment cleaning up Scottish and Irish villages which haven;t been edited in years which is why I was too slow to respond to expanding Uige Province,,, There seems to be a big rush to nominate articles before I can even get to them!!! The whole point of working in sandboxes was so we can take as long as we like on them without pressure. But there is always this two or three day deadline before nominating which kind of defeats the object of writing in the user space anyway.. I'll have to let you two work on them without me for a while, at least until I can commit more of my wiki time to writing with you.. Sorry to disappoint..♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:47, 28 January 2011 (UTC)

Absolutely, let's continue working together! I'll get to the new article tomorrow; done all that I can for tonight. --Rosiestep (talk) 02:30, 4 February 2011 (UTC)

I think the Benefits of Honey of needs more work. For example, the Medicinal subsection has several 1 sentence or 2 sentence paragraphs, so its flow is more like bullet points. However, if you feel it's ok, I'd be supportive of your decision to move it into mainspace. Will you do the nom? Thanks. --Rosiestep (talk) 03:40, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

I think the Health benefits of honey should be moved to mainspace now which will allow other editors to participate in its development. Though the article has improved, I don't believe its a candidate for dyk in its present state as I agree that the article needs attention from the medical community. Vetka will be my priority and I like the idea of the double about Chernobyl. Note, I removed the Chernobyl map from the Sokh River article as I couldn't figure out a good place for it, but it should be included in the article, also the mention about the large Jewish community. I hope to get to this tonight but I'll be editing sporadically over this weekend while I'm in SF.. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:22, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

I'm done with my improvements to Sokh River and Vetka; ok to nom them. Multiple DYK noms[edit]

Hi Nvvchar, it looks like you coded this nomination by hand rather than using a template. If I understand it right, the templates create a DYKmake credit for each target article and for each user, whereas you coded {{DYKmake|Vetka, Sozh|Nvvchar}}. I don't think this would work, and you would have missed out on the credits (had I not spotted the credit redlinks in prep4). So I'd suggest that you use one of the template (e.g. this one) for multiple article nominations. Schwede66 18:19, 12 February 2011 (UTC)

I'm going to be expanding Arslanbob (Arstanbap); it may interest you, too. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:05, 19 February 2011 (UTC)

Fascinating that you have been there; I'm going to work on that article today. I have old friends in Argentina; yes I'll take a look at the national park in a bit. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:25, 19 February 2011 (UTC)

I've missed you Nvv. Can you email me, I'll let you know what I'm planning. My reorganization of the Scottish villages is almost done now and although I will be allocating time to expanding them and Burma/Indonesia I should have more time again to resume working with you. As far as I can see you've done a wonderful job as always in my absence and written some lovely articles. That Armenian monastery is very beautiful indeed.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:50, 20 February 2011 (UTC)

Excellent work on the dams. There are some very notable dams entirely missing... I'd love to visit Kyrgzstan sometime. had no idea you'd visited, you are certainly well travelled. They have some very interesting customs I think not to mention spectacular mountain scenery.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:02, 20 February 2011 (UTC)

Which article?♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:48, 20 February 2011 (UTC)

I've made a map, I'll nominate it shortly.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:32, 20 February 2011 (UTC)

I will look at that this evening. I've started Stone Canyon Reservoir which is located in the very wealthy neighborhood of Bel Air, Los Angeles. You may wish to expand it. Amazed it was missing. There is a lovely photo here and another here which you may wish to request them. I will make a map but the servers at OSM are bad at the moment. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:55, 20 February 2011 (UTC)

I've been busy today. I will add to the national park tomorrow. I have begun cleaning up Kottarakkara. Are you interested in expanding it with good content?♦ Dr. Blofeld 22:41, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

Thankyou, that's very nice. I'm currently improving Mother India which is considered a classic of Indian cinema. I would like to expand it to GA quality. You might be interested in helping me write it, although I know film isn't your thing but it is a very important film for its themes I think. In particular I need your help in extracting info from here pages 62-87. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:36, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

Thanks, that's good. I'll give it a copyedit later and then nominate it. Enjoy your trip to Bangalore.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:47, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

Mentoring students: be sure to check in on them[edit]

This message is going out to all of the Online Ambassadors who are, or will be, serving as mentors this term.

Hi there! This is just a friendly reminder to check in on what your mentees are doing. If they've started making edits, take a look and help them out or do some example fixes for them, if they need it. And if they are doing good, let them know it!

If you aren't mentoring anyone yet, it looks like you will be soon; at least one large class is asking us to assign mentors for them, and students in a number of others haven't yet gotten to asking ambassadors to be their mentors, but may soon. --Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 20:07, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

groups of students in need of mentors[edit]

Hey Narasipur. One of the classes working with the Wikipedia Ambassador Program, Jonathan Obar's Media and Telecommunication Policy, is working in small groups and would like us to assign a mentor to each group (rather than having students request the mentors they'd like, as other classes are doing).

I invite you to sign on as the mentor for one or more groups, especially if any of the topics catch your interest. To sign up, go to the course page and add yourself as "Mentor: you" in the section for that group. They students and/or professor or campus ambassadors should be cleaning things up soon to list all the usernames for each group and add a few more groups. Once you know who the students are in the group, you can leave them each a quick introduction to let them know you'll be mentoring their group.

Thanks!--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 19:12, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

Hello there! My name is Nick (username: NicEMyer) and I'm a student at Indiana University in the US. I'm in a class working on development issues and we are taking part in the Public Policy Initiative on Wikipedia. I'm also in a class on global climate change, food, and farming systems, but which isn't working in the PPI. I was hoping that you might consider being a mentor for the entry I will be writing/editing in a short while. I am likely going to be working on food security of some sort, either writing a new entry or heavily editing the one that exists. I look forward to hearing from you! Regards, Nick NicEMyer (talk) 02:22, 1 March 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by NicEMyer (talkcontribs) 02:19, 1 March 2011 (UTC)

Wonderful, thank you for agreeing to mentoring for me! No worries on your remoteness, I'll be happy to hear from you whenever you're able to reply or comment. I have decided that I will be starting an article on the Barcelona Development agenda which, from what I understand, was sort of a response to the Washington Consensus by Joe Stiglitz et al. Anyways, thank you again, and I hope you return safely from your trip. NicEMyer (talk) 18:45, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

Please be the mentor for the students working on Comcast NBC merger[edit]

Hi again, NVV! I'm currently trying to assign mentors to all the remaining groups in Professor Obar's class. Would you be the mentor for the group of students working on Comcast NBC merger (not yet created)? If you can do it, thanks! If not, please let me know.--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 00:27, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

Online Ambassador Program[edit]

Please take a look at this project page and see if you can be a mentor to one of the many Areas of Study. If you can, please put your name in the "Online Mentor" area of the Area of Study of your choice and then contact the students you will be working with. As the Coordinating Online Ambassador for this project, please let me know if I can be of assistance. Take Care...NeutralhomerTalk • 04:19, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

Marking articles students are working on[edit]

Howdy, Online Ambassador!

This is a quick message to all the ambassadors about marking and tracking which articles students are working on. For the classes working with the ambassador program, please look over any articles being worked on by students (in particular, any ones you are mentoring, but others who don't have mentors as well) and do these things:

  1. Add {{WAP assignment | term = Spring 2011 }} to the articles' talk pages. (The other parameters of the {{WAP assignment}} template are helpful, so please add them as well, but the term = Spring 2011 one is most important.)
  2. If the article is related to United States public policy, make sure the article the WikiProject banner is on the talk page: {{WikiProject United States Public Policy}}
  3. Add Category:Article Feedback Pilot (a hidden category) to the article itself. The second phase of the Article Feedback Tool project has started, and this time we're trying to include all of the articles students are working on. Please test out the Article Feedback Tool, as well. The new version just deployed, so any bug reports or feedback will be appreciated by the tech team working on it.

And of course, don't forget to check in on the students, give them constructive feedback, praise them for positive contributions, award them {{The WikiPen}} if they are doing excellent work, and so on. And if you haven't done so, make sure any students you are mentoring are listed on your mentor profile.

Thanks! --Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 18:13, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

Welcome back[edit]

You've been away ages! Rosie and I missed you! I'm cleaning up Kerala towns at the moment. Can you write Chengannur Mahadeva Temple? First of all can you help improve Krishnapuram Palace?♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:28, 18 March 2011 (UTC)

Welcome back, Nvv! Would you like to work on Jurassic Museum of Asturias? --Rosiestep (talk) 04:58, 19 March 2011 (UTC)

Fabulous job! There may be enough material, though much in Spanish, on the Sierra del Sueve, also within the principality of Asturias, Spain, that I started last night; please join in if you wish. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:33, 19 March 2011 (UTC)

I nom'ed Jurassic Museum of Asturias; can you please add the img? thanks! --Rosiestep (talk) 01:38, 20 March 2011 (UTC)

Wonderful work as normal! So great to see quality articles for such places in India. I'm not feeling too good at the moment throat and chest problems, shortness of breath sort of thing and tiredness. i'll try to help out but I also have an AFD to deal with...♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:12, 21 March 2011 (UTC)

I managed to get the license changed and also for Chavakkad, I find if you ask 3 or 4 different users you usually get at least one who responds.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:28, 21 March 2011 (UTC)

I couldn't think of a hook. Can you?♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:46, 24 March 2011 (UTC)

Busy with family things, but I just now nom'ed Sierra del Sueve. Could you please add an img? Thanks! --Rosiestep (talk) 05:03, 25 March 2011 (UTC)

I've given it a copy edit. Seems pretty comprehensive as usual! I did try to find more but you've covered most of it it seems.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:42, 26 March 2011 (UTC)

I'll give the bridge and the national park some attention later today; thanks! --Rosiestep (talk) 17:09, 26 March 2011 (UTC)

Can you help expand Mehadia? Its was famous for its Roman baths, there's numerous descriptions of them in books like here.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:40, 26 March 2011 (UTC)

I've completed my edits on Chamberlain Bridge. --Rosiestep (talk) 03:58, 27 March 2011 (UTC) How about: ... that the Chamberlain Bridge in Barbados, named after British Colonial Secretary, Joseph Chamberlain, replaced an older bridge after the Great Hurricane in 1898? --Rosiestep (talk) 04:54, 27 March 2011 (UTC)

Excellent, thanks.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:25, 27 March 2011 (UTC)

Would you be interested in us working on Burj Al Arab? Its one of Asia's most prominent buildings. There should be a wealth of material to get it up to a good standard and 5 times expansion do you think? it gets some 2000 people searching for it every day. In a year that's almost 1 million people who view this article!! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:48, 27 March 2011 (UTC)

Yeah somehow I thought you would resent its sheer wealth... In a way it represents everything wrong with the world in terms of uneven resources... But it is a great building even if an overly indulgent one.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:39, 29 March 2011 (UTC)

St Teilo[edit]

I will look at Tierra de Fuego later tonight or tomorrow. I've expanded Penally Abbey and have posted it as a DYK about being on a pilgrim route. However i also started St Teilo. I think it can be made into a double hook. Can you expand Saint Teilo, there should be quite a lot of info about him which can be extracted from google books and some more from that Llandeilo.org site which is used in the references. Hopefully he is of interest to you and it can be made more comprehensive. He was reportedly the cousin of the patron saint of Wales, Saint David.♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:24, 29 March 2011 (UTC)

Thanks, although the bit about him returning to Wales in 554 contradicts what is said later about him spending seven years in France, after arriving in 549... Also it said Saint David died in 544 when the article and other sources say he died in 589.. I've fixed. The info in the sources seems inconsistent, like one sources claimed he actually returned from Brittany because he learned David died, which is weird as he died in 589... I will edit Tierra del Fuego tomorrow morning. Meanwhile I've started Fishing industry in Greenland which you may wish to expand.♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:24, 29 March 2011 (UTC)

I noticed that most of the articles in Template:Wildlife of Africa are very poor. I wondered if you;d be interested in perhaps tackling one of each country as part of our A-Z? In fact we could probably do like a 10 in one hook or something...♦ Dr. Blofeld 22:00, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
