Tōkyōdō Shuppan (株式会社 東京堂出版, Kabushiki-gaisha Tōkyōdō Shuppan) is a book publishing company located in Tokyo, Japan. The company split into the current company and Tōkyōdō Shoten in 1964. The company publishes dictionaries, encyclopedias, as well as education and reference books related to history, spiritualism, religion, pop culture, folklore, language learning, and sports.

History[edit]

Tōkyōdō Shuppan was founded as Tōkyōdō in 1890. The company originally operated in the retail market before moving into the book distribution and publishing business. In 1941, it ceased using Nihon Shuppan Haikyū for distribution. In 1964, the company split into Tōkyōdō Shoten (which handled the retail book business) and Tōkyōdō Shuppan (which continued handling the publishing side of the business).
