George A. Kirby (March 17, 1994 - ) is a martial artist, a public-school teacher, and an author. George was born in 1944 and grew up in Burbank, CA. He was studying for his MA degree at CSULA when he got into the martial arts. In 1967, he started teaching traditional Japanese jujitsu. [1]

George has also been a prolific writer of books and articles in relation to jujitsu and self-defense. At age 75 he still continues to teach the art in Santa Clarita, CA and is still writing books to help martial artists develop a better working understanding of jujitsu. In 1992 Panther Productions released the 8-DVD video instructional series, entitled Black Belt Budoshin Jujitsu Home Study Course, now also available in mp4 format. Sensei Kirby has also written numerous articles for Black Belt, Inside Karate and other martial arts magazines as well as numerous additional training videos.[3]

Achievements[edit]

As for some of his achievements are that he is a receiver of Black Belt Magazine’s 2007 Hall of Fame Instructor of the Year Award, holds the rank of Judan [10th degree black belt], and is a worldwide renowned martial arts instructor and an author.[4] He has been teaching Ju-Jitsu through community service agencies since 1967. Dedicating his life for the love of self-defense, 2020 will be his 53rd year of community service. In addition to this, he was the head instructor at the Burbank YMCA from 1968-75 and the Burbank Parks Dept. from 1974-96. Since 1996, he has been teaching Budoshin Ju-Jitsu classes for the city of Santa Clarita – Recreation Division. In 1997, he was awarded the title of Hanshi [model teacher] in 2000. He has taught Budoshin Ju-Jitsu as a regular elective class at Olive Vista Jr. High School [Sylmar, CA] from the time period of 1976-83, at College of the Canyons [Santa Clarita, CA], and has conducted ju-jitsu and law-enforcement seminars throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Israel.[5]
