This page gives guidance for people who are unhappy with the material Wikipedia publishes about them.

If you believe you have been clearly libeled or that Wikipedia contains clearly inappropriate personal information about you, you can request that information to be deleted from our records.

What information we need:

We will need the full URL (web browser address) which contains suppressible material, and (if not obvious) a brief description of what needs removal and why it needs to be removed.

  • Do delete or revert the relevant revision/s first (and let us know), if it will not draw undue attention. This will remove the material from public view until oversighted, and more important, it stop them being perpetuated in future edits. Don't use words like "awaiting oversight". Use a generic description/edit summary.


How to contact an oversighter:

Anyone, at any time, may report matters needing suppression. Choose whichever is fastest and easiest for you, -- or more than one if necessary:

If you have a Wikipedia account with email enabled(enabling email), then use this form to directly post a request. If you don't have a Wikipedia account with email enabled then email directly to: oversight-l@lists.wikimedia.org.
This is probably one of the fastest ways to request oversight. Please use a descriptive subject line. Monitored 24/7.

  • If you have legal concerns, put Legal concern in the subect line.
  • In the e-mail, please be sure to include the exact URL of the article, and tell us what you think is wrong and why.
  • Your e-mail will be answered by a volunteer whose goal is to help resolve the problem. That person is very unlikely to have been involved in your article, or even to know about it.

Editing pages[edit]

If you believe Wikipedia material about you is biased, incorrect or incomplete:

  • Start with the "talk" page of the article in question. Click on the "discussion" tab at the top of the article. Use that page to communicate with the editors of that particular article.
  • Editors might ask you for sources. We can't tell who you are. So it helps if you can point us to publish information that confirms what you tell us.
  • If you aren't satisfied with the results, send e-mail to What goes herey?


If the material just needs tidying up, such as insubstantive wording changes, or cleaning up spelling, grammar or punctuation:

  • You can edit the article yourself. Click near the top of the article, on the tab that says "edit this page."
