Harry Styles (born 1 February 1994)[1] is an English pop singer for the boy band One Direction.

Early Life[edit]

Styles was raised in Holmes Chapel, Cheshire, England, where he attended Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School.[2] He was born to Anne Cox (née Selley) and Des Styles[3][4][5] and has an older sister, Gemma.[6] Styles' parents divorced when he was seven and his mother later remarried.[7] As a sixteen-year-old he worked part-time at the W. Mandeville Bakery in Holmes Chapel.[8]

One Direction[edit]

After auditioning as a solo member for the seventh series of the British televised singing competition The X Factor, Styles was selected to be a founding member of the band One Direction.[9]

The band finished the show in third place[10] while amassing a large fan following.[11] They were signed to Simon Cowell's Syco Entertainment in 2010.[12] One Direction released their first album, Up All Night, in 2011, followed by their second, Take Me Home, in 2012.[13]. One Direction: This Is Us, a documentary about the band directed by Morgan Spurlock, was released in August 2013.[14] The film grossed more than $30 million worldwide its first weekend in theaters.[15]

Their third album, Midnight Memories, will be released on 25 November 2013.[16]
