Kareem Jabbar Antonio Jackson[edit]

Kareem Antonio (born Kareem Jabbar Jackson; August 10, 1972 at Truman Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, USA) is an American celebrity writer, publisher, serial entrepreneur, radio talk show host, and speaker. Kareem Antonio changed his name when he was 15-years old, adding Antonio, and making himself a ‘Jr.’ after his father, Anthony ‘Ajax’ Jackson. Kareem Jabbar Antonio Jackson is the only son and was the sole heir to his father’s company Ajax Builders in the 90’s, so as Antonio Jackson, he too could be nicknamed ‘Ajax’ like his father. Kareem’s parents were high school sweet hearts, but divorced in 1974, when he was but 2-years old. Subsequently, limited opportunities and racism in the US for blacks at the time forced his father to visit Nigeria, Africa seeking success (Federal Republic of Nigeria http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nigeria). His father, Ajax found his success in the furniture manufacturing industry with ACME furniture and was featured in a Black Enterprise Magazine cover article ‘From Rags to Riches in Africa’ which featured the Jackson’s as a testament to success for black American’s in Africa. ACME Furniture boomed when; host and family friend Nigerian General Adekunle (Gen. Benjamin Adesanya Maja Adekunle aka ‘The Black Scorpion’ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benjamin_Adekunle) opened trade lines and allowed the import and export of manufactured furniture into the Commonwealth. Kareem lived with his father and step-mother (Lynda Marie Coche’-Jackson), a Creo and daughter to US Jazz Vocalist, Francis Coche’ from Los Angeles, California. The Jacksons lived in Victory Island, then later moved onto the Jackson Compound in, Ikeja (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ikeja). The families compound was known for its high-security and hosted many celebrities such The Haley’s creators of the Movie Saga ROOTS, Kool and the Gang, Shalamar, Jody Whatley, 3rd World, Brothers Johnson and Berry White. Kareem was raised privileged most of his life. His family compound was inside 12-foot walls, security gates, with armed guards and military police patrols. Kareem Antonio, attended The American International School in Lagos, Nigeria; the countries most prestigious school at the time. Schoolmates were other wealthy business expats, foreign nationals and celebrities. The school sports were football (soccer), horse polo and basketball. Though his parents were jailed for a short time, the family withstood the Nigerian coup d'etat in 1983, military palace coup; in which second republic president Shagari was overthrown; and Muhammadu Buhari takes power. That coup spared most of Ikeja where they lived. However, in 1986 when General Adekunle’s regime was over thrown, and rebels were murdering 1st born sons of wealthy cast families in Ikeja, Kareem was smuggled out of the country to San Diego, California. His parents followed some time later. Kareem was a model for International Male, Fashion Forward, he appeared in TV commercials, and also played Othelo in the play of the same name when he was in high school. However, he is best known for his often controversial entrepreneurial ventures, where his high-tolerance for risk and for creating conglomerates has achieved him awards for Entrepreneur of the Year, Gay Entrepreneur of the Year, Young Black Entrepreneur of the Year, as well as the S.C.O.R.E. Entrepreneur of the Year Nominee. Often criticized for his boldness as a serial entrepreneur, he has also had his share of negative press as well. His business deals have also made him the focus of news shows, reports and headlines in the United States. His most popular venture was the wildly successful, multi-award-winning Minority Success Magazine, which received a United States Resolution from Kansas City Mayor Kay Barnes and the City Council, for his contributions to the city. Credited with creating the reality based magazine model, he revolutionized the way cities and countries marketed themselves, as well as the way magazines were produced and distributed in America. However, he actually opened his first business in San Diego in 1987, with fellow 12-year old business partner, Christopher Oeland. The duo owned a grass cutting service in Spring Valley, California for nearly a year, until the Jackson family moved to Mount Helix, San Diego. Since then, he has entered into over 100 business ventures through a process he calls ‘organic entrepreneurship’ which he attributes his success to boredom. He simply jumps in and out of investments as they grow less volatile and ‘exciting’ to him.

Personal Note

In the late 90's to the early 2000's, American business tanked. Many huge corporations and savvy business people crashed and were never heard from again. After the huge rise and fall of my media and publishing business, I found myself faced with the same crisis. I thought I was at the top of my game, I thought I had great friends and nothing could knock me down, but I was wrong, and I found myself alone and penniless.

My parents raised me to do things, rather than sit around and watch what others are doing. That ideal has inspired me my entire life, so just like billionaire Richard Branson; who began his empire on a houseboat, I went out and bought a mini-yacht that had been neglected and the owners wanted to get rid of. I waited tables for the Cheesecake Factory and I re-invented myself.

THE SILVER LINING: The demise had bestowed me with a better, broader and more humble perspective. I had a clarity that was impossible to achieve when I was in the non-stop business world. I had been an entrepreneur since I was in my teens, just as my father, and my grand parents before them. I'd never truly had a job before -at least not for very long. The doer culture of my family, over my life had helped me to succeed despite what others had told me was next to impossible.

Effective separation[edit]

A common goal among experienced web developers is to develop and deploy applications that are flexible and easily maintainable. An important consideration in reaching this goal is the separation of business logic from presentation logic.[1] Developers use web template systems (with varying degrees of success) to maintain this separation.[1]

One difficulty in evaluating this separation is the lack of well-defined formalisms to measure when and how well it is actually met.[1] There are, however, fairly standard heuristics that have been borrowed from the domain of software engineering. These include 'inheritance' (based on principles of object-oriented programming); and the 'Templating and Generative programming', (consistent with the principles of MVC separation).[2] The precise difference between the various guidelines is subject to some debate, and some aspects of the different guidelines share a degree of similarity.[3]

Flexible presentation[edit]

One major rationale behind "effective separation" is the need for maximum flexibility in the code and resources dedicated to the presentation logic.[2] Client demands, changing customer preferences and desire to present a "fresh face" for pre-existing content often result in the need to dramatically modify the public appearance of web content while disrupting the underlying infrastructure as little as possible.

The distinction between "presentation" (front end) and "business logic" (infrastructure) is usually an important one, because:

  • the presentation source code language may differ from other code assets
  • the production process for the application may require the work to be done at separate times and locations
  • different workers have different skill sets, and presentation skills do not always coincide with skills for coding business logic
  • code assets are easier to maintain and more readable when disparate components are kept separate and loosely coupled[2]

Reusability[edit]

Not all potential users of web templates have the willingness and ability to hire developers to design a system for their needs. Additionally, some may wish to use the web but have limited or no technical proficiency. For these reasons, a number of developers and vendors have released web templates specifically for reuse by non-technical people. Although web template reusability is also important for even highly-skilled and technically experienced developers, it is especially critical to those who rely on simplicity and "ready-made" web solutions.

Such "ready-made" web templates are sometimes free, and easily made by an individual domestically. However, specialized web templates are sometimes sold online. Although there are numerous commercial sites that offer web templates for a licensing fee, there are also free and "open-source" sources as well.
