Jerome Lermyte (born June 21, 1988) is a thoroughbred horse racing Jockey who has won over 600 races around the world , including the 2018 Breeders' Stakes, 3rd leg of the Canadian Triple Crown on Neepawa and has accumulated more than $9,000,000 in purse earnings throughout is career so far.

Early life[edit]

Lermyte was born June 21, 1988 in Toulouse, France. His father Christophe was a jockey and later a trainer in France. At age 13, Lermyte was accepted into the French riding academy, Afasec. He later started riding in France and became a leading apprentice in 2006. He secured his first win on February 9, 2005 at Cagnes-sur-Mer on Tigron.

Racing career[edit]

Lermyte started riding at age 16 in France until 2010. His career went international when he signed a contract with Serge Henry racing stable for the 2010 racing season in Mauritius. After a successful stunt in Mauritius he was offered a contract with Sheikh Mishaal bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani for the 2011 Qatar racing season. He also raced in Macau,South Korea, Australia and Germany before moving to the United States in early 2015 where he won on his very first ride at Sam Houston Race Park.

In 2017, Lermyte moved to Canada after receiving an offer from the well known thoroughbred trainer Mark Casse. Again he won for his very first race ride at Woodbine Racetrack on Superduper Sky and gradually climbed the jockey rank in the Woodbine standing. Lermyte scored his first Canadian Stakes victory in the 2018 Bison City Stakes aboard Safe to Say.[1]
