Aidan Dowling (born 8 October 2002) is an English professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for EFL Championship club Blackburn Rovers.
Club career[edit]
Blackburn Rovers[edit]
On 20 May 2021, Dowling signed his first professional contract with EFL Championship side Blackburn Rovers until 30 June 2023.[2] Dowling joined the club's academy at under-14 level in 2016, working his way up to the U18s by the 2020-21 season, appearing 11 times for then U18s manager Mike Sheron's side whilst occasionally making the bench for Blackburn's U23s.
On 20 August, Dowling joined National League side FC Halifax Town on a short-term loan until 18 September,[3], with the intention of acting as backup to the club's first-choice keeper Sam Johnson[4]. Dowling returned to his parent club on 20 September, with Halifax opting against extending the youngster's loan, instead opting to sign a permanent backup option.[4] Following his return to Blackburn, Dowling made his debut for the club's U23s side in their 1-0 Premier League 2 win over Chelsea U23s.[5]
On 9 October, Dowling joined Northern Premier League Premier Division on a short-term loan until 6 November.[5] Dowling extended his stay with Lancaster on 8 November until 7 January 2022, although this was cut-short by Blackburn on 17 December in order to bolster the club's back-up options.[6]
