Atlantic Ocean hurricanes[edit]

2010s[edit]

  • October 3–6, 2017 – Tropical Storm Nate causes significant and widespread flooding in Central America, particularly in Costa Rica, where it was the costliest tropical cyclone in that country's history, with total damages reaching $562 million (2017 USD) with a death toll of 14.[1] Widespread flooding in Nicaragua destroyed 5,953 homes, directly affecting 29,000 people and causing 16 deaths.[2] During its formative stages, Nate's precursor disturbance produced heavy rainfall and mudslides which damaged 234 homes and caused 7 casualties in Panama.
  • October 25–27, 2017 – The disturbance that later became Tropical Storm Philippe in combination with Tropical Storm Selma brought heavy rainfall to parts of Honduras and Nicaragua, although impact from the pre-Philippe disturbance was negligible.
  • October 5–7, 2018 – The low that later became Hurricane Michael and a disturbance located over the Pacific Ocean caused significant flooding throughout Central America. A total of 15 people were killed, including 8 in Honduras,[3] 4 in Nicaragua, and 3 in El Salvador.[4] Over 1,000 homes were damaged in Honduras. Approximately 253 homes sustained damage in El Salvador. Over 2000 homes were damaged in Nicaragua and over a thousand people were evacuated.[5] Damages are estimated to have exceeded $100 million (2018 USD).[6]

Pacific Ocean hurricanes[edit]
