Professor Dr A. K. M. Humayun Kober is a Bangladeshi professor, researcher and writer in the field of Dairy Science & allied disciplines. He currently serves as the Head of the Department of Dairy & Poultry Science at Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU), located in Khulshi, Chattogram, Bangladesh.

Early Life and Education[edit]

Dr. Kober was born on 01 March 1976 in Mymensingh city. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Animal Husbandry with distinction from Bangladesh Agricultural University in 1999. He subsequently obtained his Master of Science in Dairy Science from the same university in 2001. Dr. Kober received the Japanese MEXT Scholarship to pursue further studies in Japan, where he earned his Ph.D. in Animal Production Science from Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology in 2011. He further enhanced his qualifications through JSPS Post-doctoral training at Tohoku University, Japan. He did a JSPS Post-doc (2015-2017) and JSPS Invitational Research Fellow (2022-2023) on Food Immunology at Tohoku University, Japan. He was a Visiting Researcher (2014) at the Norwegian Univ. of Life Sciences, Norway.He is actively engaged in professional societies. Furthermore, he presented his research works in reputed societies such as the Japanese Society of Dairy Science/ Food Immunology, the Federation of European Microbiological Societies, and the Canadian Society of Microbiologists etc.

Career[edit]

Dr. Kober has dedicated his career to advancing teaching and research and extension in Dairy Science & allied disciplines.  Dr.  Kober has published more than 50 refereed journal articles. Dr. Kober actively shares his expertise with a wider audience through columns in leading national dailies such as Prothom Alo and The Daily Ittefaq. He has supervised 15 master’s students and is now supervising five master’s students. He received many research grants and fellowships as a recognition of his good impact on research from home and abroad. He received several prestigious national and international awards during his academic career, including receiving the “Best Researcher Award 2019–2020” for CVASU researchers. He has also significantly contributed to the development of the livestock industry in Bangladesh through his work as a National Consultant (2019) for the Quality Control (QC) Lab project at the Department of Livestock Services. Dr. Kober has chaired scientific meetings and He has held prominent positions as a Guest Editor for "Microorganisms" (IF: 4.5), Review Editor for "Frontiers in Microbiology" (IF: 5.6), and reviewer of several top leading journals including Food & Function, Frontiers in Microbiology, Frontiers in Nutrition. His current research interests include developing functional dairy foods, probiotics, antimicrobial resistance, and food safety concerns for healthy human and animal growth strategies.

Dr. Kober is currently writing (Full authorship) a remarkable book titled “Milk and Dairy Foods: Nutrition, Processing and Healthy Ageing” which going to be published by CRC Press Taylor & Francis Group, USA. This book (page about 320) will be valuable to readers worldwide.The book is meant for undergraduate and postgraduate students in food science, dairy science, nutrition, microbiology, medical, veterinary, biotechnology & allied disciplines, and those involved in formulating and producing dairy foods.

Dr. Kober has played a vital role in disseminating knowledge within the field of food microbiology through his editorial positions with prestigious publications like "Microorganisms" and "Frontiers in Microbiology". He also holds the position of Associate Editor at JMAB (Hong Kong, China).
