The Memory Box - digital stories
The Memory Box is a NIACE[1] funded project produced by Flo-culture[2], led from the North East of England. The Memory Box originated as a digital inclusion project designed to connect older learners to digital technology in an accessible way that is directly relevant to their lives. Older learners scriped their own historically revelant, personal recollections of Newcastle upon Tyne and utlilised their new skills to create 2-3 minute digital stories on iPad devices. The digital stories from these workshops are now availible on the assosiated iPad application.
The Memory Box - Application[edit]
The digital stories are currently availible on an application availible in the Apple App Store designed for use on iPhones and iPads. The app is an online social historical resource freely available to the public. It currently showcases the digital stories made in the project workshops and will grow as more content is generated.
Workshops[edit]
Workshops began in Autumn 2012 and were facilitated by a digital storyteller from Curiosity Creative[3], who helped small groups of older learners turn their personal recollections into audio-visual stories using digital iPad technology; these workshops were free for those who registered and took place in familiar, supportive environments in library settings. The workshops are currently in their second of three phases due for completion in September 2013. The application will remain accessible after project completion.
