Paid Work[edit]

I don't do any paid work on Wikipedia and there is nothing in my job duties to do any work on Wikipedia. I am very interested in understanding how to best contribute and foster a community of contributors among my peers. Understanding how to edit Wikipedia is a question that I am asked as a part of my position, so I sometimes do work on this project as a part of my paid work hours to develop more mastery so that I can provide support and guidance to students and my peers who are interested in doing this work.

Newspapers on Wikipedia Project[edit]

A colleague shared information about this project with me and it seemed like the perfect opportunity to strengthen my Wikipedia editing skills and contribute to a larger good all at the same time. The Newspapers on Wikipedia project was started by user:Michaelacaulfield to help students when they are reading laterally to verify a news source.^[1] It was inspired by an article titled "Investigating the Effects of Google's Search Engine Result Page in Evaluating the Credibility of Online News Sources"^[2] by Emma Lurie and Eni Mustafaraj. The goal of the project is to provide more documentation about local news sources on Wikipedia to help readers determine whether the news resource they are reading about is real.
