Wellman Street Artists Studio ...

A number of small, often informal Artist studios have existed in the Northbridge area, often hidden away in back streets or old substandard commercial spaces.

An example of one short lived studio was the Wellman Street Artists Studio was established in 1992 by Edith Cowen University Visual Arts graduates Shaun Atkinson, Jason Auld, Barbara Courtille, Morgan Simpson and Pairaj Srisuphanraj.

Originally the studio was informally called the Select Plumbing Studio, as the building owner at that time was Select Plumbing Pty Ltd. As a group the studio artists exhibited together in Selected Plumbing at the Fremantle Arts Centre, Fremantle in 1995.<see http://www.jahroc.com.au/17376.htm>. In December 1998 the studio artists Graham Hay, Alex Hayes, Diokno Pasilan and Soffia Scarano, exhibited in Wellman Street, at the Artshouse Gallery, Northbridge. Studio members since then include: Elspeth Averill, Bob Davidson, Steve Bethell, Fenn Martin, Wendy McArthur, Fung Lam, Margot Rawle, Shanti Snelleksz. When the building was sold to Kakulas Brothers in the later 1990's the studio was informally renamed Wellman Street Studio or Wellman Street Artists Studio. <see http://www.robparkart.info/1998cat.html> In November 1999 the Studio moved to to Halverson Hall, within Robertson Park and was renamed Robertson Park Artists Studio. <see http://www.robparkart.info/Bromfield20001.html from exhibition Catelogue>

Another informal Northbridge studio is the Last Chance Studio, on William Street, which has included artists such as William Daek, Sean Morris, Timothy Rollin, Ryan Boserio, Pete Long, Pari Corbitt, Martin E. Wills, Michael Katchan, Anne Barnetson, Creepy, Deej.
