mokra

was wondering if you thought it was okay now to get the neutrality check off of the mokra page? seems like everything's been, for the most part, sorted out.

also, two questions: first of all, i was working on a page about de gaulle's successful attack on montcornet in 1940 but i've got just a couple of books (only one of which goes into real detail) and so i'm at a loss for more sources. you wouldn't happen to know of a book (or website, or anything reliable) where i could probably get some conclusive numbers, would you? second, since you seem to know a lot about the polish september campaign, what book would you recommend reading about it - like the absolute best account? i've been looking for a good book about that but have come up disappointingly empty-handed so far. thanks for your time!Capt Jim (talk) 16:45, 4 June 2011 (UTC)

thanks for the excellent sources, i'll definitely look into them! and i removed the neutrality check on mokra, BTW. Capt Jim (talk) 17:12, 17 June 2011 (UTC)

Non-Free rationale for File:Lastpic 4comp2PPLeg Radom-Kielce Jan45.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Lastpic 4comp2PPLeg Radom-Kielce Jan45.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under Non-Free content criteria but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a Non-Free rationale.

If you have uploaded other Non-Free media, consider checking that you have specified the Non-Free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Orphaned non-free image File:Zaleski-cover.jpg

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Zaleski-cover.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 11:37, 30 June 2011 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Polish heraldry

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Polish heraldry requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Friendly suggestion

I noticed User:Halibutt/Radzymin. But then, remember User:Halibutt/Naliwajko? There is also User:Halibutt/AK, User:Halibutt/Curzon line, User:Halibutt/div comp, User:Halibutt/Evidence, User:Halibutt/expulsion, User:Halibutt/Kowel, User:Halibutt/Medal gallery, User:Halibutt/OOB, User:Halibutt/Orliñski, User:Halibutt/Ranks, User:Halibutt/Rayski2, User:Halibutt/timeline, User:Halibutt/Vilnius region, User:Halibutt/Warsaw Uprising, User:Halibutt/Western betrayal, User:Halibutt/Yer... That's a SCARY list. It tells me you often start projects, and you never finish them - mind you, this is fine, that's what we all do on Wikipedia. But you keep them in your userspace, which means that others never get the opportunity to improve and finish them. I'd like to ask you to 1) review those and move useful content to Wikipedia articles and 2) consider not working in the userspace in the future. Speaking as a friend who respects your time and work, userspace seems to waste your work. If you have any unfinished notes, move them to article's talk page. All finished paragraphs and such should be added to the article. Even if that creates a bias (developed intro, missing follow up), that's FINE. Others can finish it for you - but your start will be useful, and they won't have to write the parts you've covered. Please consider this, --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk to me 18:51, 5 October 2011 (UTC)

Glad to hear that. May I suggest you blank them, or even better, ask for transwiki and creator-requested speedy deletion? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk to me 19:14, 5 October 2011 (UTC)
It is your userspace, and your time, so... :) Transwiki would give you better attribution in article's history, if you care for it. If not... just ignore most of what I wrote, and move Kowel :) --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk to me 19:20, 5 October 2011 (UTC)

5th Podhale Rifles Infantry Regiment

Halibutt,

Article: 5th Podhale Rifles Infantry Regiment.

I came across your unassessed article through the Military History. Would like to encourage you to expand it further and if you need any help with the article please feel free to ask the WikiProject Military History Coordinators. Battle of Radzymin (1920)

Halibutt,

Article: Battle of Radzymin (1920).

I've noticed it's been assessed "C Class". Great! I will help you with it, do you mind if I make some changes to the article? Adamdaley (talk) 01:44, 12 October 2011 (UTC)

I've created a subpage on my username User:Adamdaley/Draft_of_Article_3, I am making the changes there. Adamdaley (talk) 12:23, 12 October 2011 (UTC)
  • I've commented on the 1st Polish Army (1918-1920) article on the Discussion page of my subpage. I see why we couldn't create the article to be a "Start Class". Adamdaley (talk) 00:39, 14 October 2011 (UTC)

Are you satisfied with the article on of the Battle of Radzymin (1920) on my subpage? Or is there more you would like to do with it? If so feel free to add to it, remember it's your article. There are a few "red link" pages which no Wikipedia article's, was wondering if you were going to do them before we "cut and paste" the article on my subpage to the main article on Wikipedia. Your doing good with the article. Keep up the good work. Adamdaley (talk) 22:49, 22 October 2011 (UTC)

Give me a little while to read through it and make any changes if necessary. Then if you're satisfied with it and I am, then we can copy/paste the article to the main article on Wikipedia. Then ask for it to be assessed again. Adamdaley (talk) 01:11, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
Halibutt - Sorry for being slow the past couple of days, I've been really sick and not done much. I'll try to get the article properly done in the next 2 or 3 days. Adamdaley (talk) 02:44, 27 October 2011 (UTC)

File source problem with File:Elektrit Opera.jpeg

Thank you for uploading File:Elektrit Opera.jpeg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

NATO standard map symbols for maps of army formations

Hi Halibutt, greetings and thanks for all your hard work on Polish military formations. User:W. B. Do you know anyone who could give us a series of NATO APP-6A symbols to place on maps similar to Polish Land Forces or Belgian Land Component? 27th Rifle Division (Soviet Union)

Thank you for your earlier help with the APP-6 symbols. Wanted also to thank you for doing this rifle division article - there are hundreds to work through, so thanks - but also wanted to point out one minor error which might save you wasted time and effort in future. Soviet rifle divisions never went from 'X Rifle Division' to 'X Guards Rifle Division'; they always received a new number. Our article on the 27th Guards Rifle Division clearly says it was formed from a naval rifle brigade some time after 27th Rifle Division was destroyed during Barbarossa. If you are ever unclear on any Rifle->Guards Rifle division redesignations, please feel free to check User:W. B. Wilson's excellent List of infantry divisions of the Soviet Union 1917-1957, which has a complete-as-far-as-we-can-get-it list of divisions and redesignations. Please also feel free to query me should you wish. Again thanks for your help - I really do appreciate it, because I often feel quite alone slowly creating these articles!! Cheers Buckshot06 (talk) 15:18, 19 November 2011 (UTC)

Completely agree - the standard of such articles are indeed low. Honestly, before the attitude in Russia changes I don't think the situation will improve much, because they won't start digging into the details that go with that new attitude, and we in the West don't have the sources. Happy to be disagreed with on this!! Right at the moment all I'm going for is bare details of the RKKA divisions on wiki - good historiography will have to wait some time. Cheers Buckshot06 (talk) 20:28, 19 November 2011 (UTC)

Q about Inkscape

Halibutt, hope you can help. I'm trying to load a .svg version of the file "File:Cold War Germany.svg", but it is loading only a portion of the image. Then I noticed other articles you created, and I said to my mother, Halibutt, will think I am stalking him on Wikipedia! Of course it is not my intention. I just happen to come across those articles. My mother has told me since the first one, that she hopes she doesn't see another Polish/Russian Battle again, because it is before her time and these only last a few days at a time. Republic of Central Lithuania general election, 1922

Witam! Widzę, że przywróciłeś plik File:Kobieto jidisze frojen.jpg w artykule Republic of Central Lithuania general election, 1922. Tymczasem wybory do do Sejmu Litwy Środkowej miały miejsce 8 stycznia 1922 r. Z poważaniem --Kynikos Vodyanoi (talk) 23:18, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

File:Kazimierz Wielki.jpg needs authorship information

Dear uploader:

The media file you uploaded as File:Kazimierz Wielki.jpg appears to be missing information as to its authorship (and or source), or if you did provide such information, it is confusing for others trying to make use of the image.

It would be appreciated if you would consider updating the file description page, to make the authorship of the media clearer.

Although some images may not need author information in obvious cases, (such where an applicable source is provided), authorship information aids users of the image, and helps ensure that appropriate credit is given (a requirement of some licenses).

  • If you created this media yourself, please consider explicitly including your user name, for which: {{subst:usernameexpand|Halibutt/Archive 19}} will produce an appropriate expansion,
    or use the {{own}} template.
  • If this is an old image, for which the authorship is unknown or impossible to determine, please indicate this on the file description page.
If you have any questions please see Help:File page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 11:41, 30 December 2011 (UTC)

I'm insecure for any articles over "B-class" so therefore, I'm probably no help to you with assessing it "A-class". I am doing an article at the moment which is about 60% done. I would be satisfied with a "B class" or a "GAN" article assessment. Feel free to ask for any help in the future. Adamdaley (talk) 13:25, 2 January 2012 (UTC)

Re: Battle of Radzymin (1920)

Done. Sadly, milhist A those days is not very activie, and rather too bureaucracized. I've had several reviews suffer similar fate. You may want to check that page for other Poland-related articles. Also, for the future reference, WP:POLAND supports B-class reviews, where I (and occasionally others) gladly offer review comments before GA review phase. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk to me 14:37, 2 January 2012 (UTC)

Szczęśliwego nowego roku! Apologies for not paying sufficient attention, the article is now on my watchlist. I'm hoping to spend some time on the WWII Courland Pocket myself this year for MILHIST. Need to digitize some sources first, though. (And, as you know, the Polish-Bolshevik war was a key contributor to achieving Latvia's post-WWI independence.) Let me know when you are ready for another review. Best, Pēters. PЄTЄRS J VTALK 15:22, 2 January 2012 (UTC)
P.S. Same for your MILHIST articles, of course, Piotrus! PЄTЄRS J VTALK 15:25, 2 January 2012 (UTC)
I've added mostly minor copy-editing. Not being particularly familiar with the geography around Warsaw, I was having some difficulty when I got to the "Battlefield" section which I hope I've improved and left true to the sources cited. I did post one question in article talk on the fortifications east of Warsaw. PЄTЄRS J VTALK 03:36, 15 January 2012 (UTC)

Lost looking for the swamp

Halibutt, I've been looking at maps but not having much luck. There is a large marshy or swampy area just south and southeast of Szczecin. Is there a specific name for this marsh? Thanks for any assistance. Cheers, W. B. Wilson (talk) 21:12, 14 January 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the replies, fellows. I've seen in an article mention of the "Rando Swamp" and it referenced as being south of Szczecin. Per the article, the Soviet Army crossed this swamp in 1945 to cut off Germans holding out in Szczecin. While I can see what looks like a large marshy area near Szczecin (between Ustowo and Podjuchy, see this page ), I can't find any other references to "Rando". Thanks again. Cheers, W. B. Wilson (talk) 07:58, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
Hmm, found one firm that either rents or sells canoes near Szczecin with the name "Rando". Cheers, W. B. Wilson (talk) 16:27, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
Got it -- it was a reference to the swamps around the Randow River, more SW and W of Szczecin than south of it. Cheers, W. B. Wilson (talk) 19:16, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
A map I have shows the area more as the river valley plus a bunch of parallel and connecting canals in the area where the Soviet advance would have taken place. I'm guessing this is the "swamp" that was referred to. Thanks for looking and the comments on the area's geography. Cheers, W. B. Wilson (talk) 20:19, 15 January 2012 (UTC)

Non-free rationale for File:Podhalan POWs.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Podhalan POWs.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

WP Poland in the Signpost

The WikiProject Report would like to focus on WikiProject Poland for a Signpost article. This is an excellent opportunity to draw attention to your efforts and attract new members to the project. Would you be willing to participate in an interview? If so, here are the questions for the interview. Just add your response below each question and feel free to skip any questions that you don't feel comfortable answering. Multiple editors will have an opportunity to respond to the interview questions. I hope you'll take a few minutes and take part in this interview. It is a landmark for our project, and your participation is an important part of our little community! --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk to me 19:06, 6 February 2012 (UTC)

Well, then you should finally join :D And I'll certainly add my comments there, but before that, I'd like to see some thoughts from others, like you. I may be a pretty active Poland-topic editor out there, but I am certainly not the only one who does a lot of good job - and it is a project interview, not a Piotrus interview :D Also, you are one of our oldest editors (wiki experience wise), and that matters as well, making your thoughts carry much weight. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk to me 20:45, 6 February 2012 (UTC)

Zbigniew Brzezinski pronunciation

Hi, I've been enjoying your Polish audio samples. When you get some time, could you do one for Zbigniew Brzezinski? There's no urgency to it but maybe you could add it to your "eventually" list. How to deal with copyright paranoia

Regarding Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Battle of Radzymin (1920)/archive1. I suggest you strike the offending images out, renominate the article, and restore the images afterward. It doesn't appear that there are enough grounds for deletion, but copyright paranoia freaks can keep asking questions to which nobody has answers, and scare away support comments. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk to me 22:11, 1 March 2012 (UTC)

Battle of Radzymin (1920) FAC

Hi. The problem I see with the renomination is that the article was 20 days at the last FAC without attracting any support, or much comment really, apart from mine and a lengthy discussion about images. It was rather ignored, which is unusual for MilHist articles. Putting it up again after so short an interval might lead to the same thing happening again, but given a couple of weeks' break you could refresh the prose, get a few more MilHist people to take an interest and maybe look at it, and otherwise improve its chances. Anyway, the delegates have not removed it yet, so maybe they think it's OK and if so, that's fine. If they do remove it, please contact me and I will be happy to review it within the two weeks. WikiProject assessment tags for talk pages

Thank you for your recent articles, including Henryk Ruder. When you create a new article, can you add the WikiProject assessment templates to the talk of that article? See the talk page of the article I mentioned for an example of what I mean. Usually it is very simple, you just add something like {{WikiProject Keyword}} to the article's talk, with keyword replaced by the associated WikiProject. You do not have to rate the article if you don't want to, other WikiProject members will do it. Those templates are very useful, as they bring the articles to a WikiProject attention, and allow thm to start tracking the articles through Wikipedia:Article alerts and other tools. This can help you too, as the WikiProject members will often defend your work from deletion and try to improve it further. Feel free to ask me any questions if you'd like more information. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Non-free rationale for File:Struszynski Marceli profPW analis v-2fuel.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Struszynski Marceli profPW analis v-2fuel.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. Disambiguation link notification for September 4

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Lesser Polish dialect, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Silesian dialect (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
