A guide to the three types of deletion[edit]

CSDing[edit]

  1. Tag the article with {{db-<criterion for deletion>}}. The criteria for speedy deletion are here.
  2. Notify the author with {{subst:db-reason-notice|page name|reason}}.

Also useful are the types of A7 deletion tags:

  • {{db-person}} for a person
  • {{db-band}} for a band
  • {{db-inc}} for an organization
  • {{db-web}} for Internet-related stuff

PRODding[edit]

  1. Add the {{subst:Proposed deletion|concern=reason for proposed deletion}} to the top of the main article page to nominate the article. Make sure to provide an edit summary that clearly indicates that the article has been proposed for deletion. Do not mark the edit as minor.
  2. Consider adding an {{Old prod full}} tag to the article's talk page. Category:Past proposed deletion candidates lists articles that have previously been proposed for deletion.
  3. The article's creator or other significant contributors should ideally be left a message at their talk page(s) informing them of the proposed article deletion, except for cases where contributors are no longer regarded as active editors on Wikipedia. This should be done by adding the {{Proposed deletion notify|''Name of Article‎''}} tag, or other appropriate text.

AfDing[edit]

  1. Insert {{subst:afd1}} at the top of the article if it's been nommed for the first time. If it hasn't, use the template {{afdx}} and in a parameter type the number of times it would be nominated after you're done (so a second nom would make the template {{subst:afdx|2nd}}) Also use Nominated for deletion; see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/name of article as your edit summary and don't mark the edit as minor.
  2. Place the text {{subst:afd2 | pg=PageName | cat=Category | text=Why the page should be deleted}} ~~~~ on the AfD page for the article. PageName is, well, the name of the page, and Category is the category the article is placed in (so if it's about a song, you use M for "media and music").
  3. Open the log page for today and post {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/NominationName}} at the top, NominationName being the title of the AfD after Wikipedia:Articles for Deletion (if the article's named Foo, Foo should replace NominationName in the pg= parameter; if Foo's being nommed for the second time, Foo (2nd nomination) should replace NominationName in the pg= parameter). The edit summary for that should be Adding Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/name of article

Deletion sorting[edit]

  1. Find an appropriate category or categories under which to sort the discussion.
  2. Once you find the page, add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the list, noting the article name in the edit summary.
  3. You can add a notification to the discussion itself that it has been included using {{subst:delsort|<topic>|<signature>}}. Many of the those categories have watchers so it's an easy way to broadcast recently nominated articles. Courtesy of I JethroBT.

How to relist an AfD[edit]

Go to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Log/old date → edit → cut {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/whatever's up for deletion}} from the page → save → paste into Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Log/current date → save. Closing an AfD[edit]

To process an AFD debate listed on a day page containing debates old enough to be closed:

  • If it may take significant time to assess the debate and/or perform the closing edits, consider letting others know that you are in assessing the discussion by adding {{AfDh}} to the very top of the page and {{AfDb}} to the very bottom of the page. Alternatively, {{Closing}}) can be added to the very top of the page.
  • Determine, using the guidelines set forth at Wikipedia:Deletion guidelines for administrators, if there is a consensus to delete the article, and if the associated talk or sub-pages should also be deleted.
  • Close the deletion discussion by doing the following:
    • Remove the {{AfDh}}/{{AfDb}}/{{Closing}} tags from the page, if they were placed beforehand.
    • Do the following:
