OrchPlay Software[edit]

OrchPlay is a free audio player (software) developed by OrchPlayMusic. It was released for Mac OS on August 17 2016 and for Microsoft Windows on November 11 2016.

File Formats[edit]

The following audio file formats are supported by OrchPlay:

Other supported files:

  • OPLL - OrchPlay Bookmark List (native file format)

OrchPlay Multichannel Files[edit]

The OrchPlay software connects to the OrchPlay Music Library and offers for download a selection of orchestral pieces in a proprietary OPL multichannel package. The OPL files provides access to all individual instrumental tracks of the full orchestra. With OrchPlay it is possible to enable subsets of instruments involved in a particular orchestral effect to be heard in isolation or within the full musical context.

Features[edit]

Player Interface[edit]

The Player interface offers quick access to the Composer / Music Files selection menu, the Bookmarks menu, the Library Window (available downloads), the Orchestra Window, the Information Drawer and Scores.

Intelligent Playback Navigation[edit]

OrchPlay files can be navigated either by measure numbers or time-based units. An advanced locator-selection-system "snaps" to measure numbers.

Bookmarks[edit]

Any user's instrumental setting related to any section of the score (with measure numbers and time-based units) can be saved as a bookmark with individual name, description and relevant score pages for use in the classroom or public presentations. Bookmarks and Bookmarks Lists can also be exported and shared with all other users. Standard stereo files can be imported as OPL files as well as any other related document and linked to them.

Scores[edit]

Each file from the OrchPlay Music Library includes a new, print-ready orchestral pdf study score along with composer picture and short movement description. Teachers have access to different versions with full or selective reductions and piano versions. The page layout is designed to make it possible for students to write directly onto the score.

Information Drawer[edit]

The Information Drawer is divided into three columns:

  • General Information: Picture of the composer and short text on the selected piece. For imported files the user can select a picture and add the desired information (e. g. program notes, biographies, comments, etc).
  • Embedded Documents: Here the user will find the documents linked to the piece. The user can also drag-and-drop any document to be embedded.
  • Bookmark Description: Space reserved for entering bookmarks details.

Orchestra Window[edit]

With the Orchestra Window the user may choose an instrument or build any instrumental combinations he wishes to hear. The user can control the balance of complete instrumental families, sections, divisi or any individual instrument or soloist. Two different interfaces are proposed: A detailed 'Mixer View' or a more intuitive 'Stage View'.

OrchPlay Music Library Window (downloads)[edit]

The OrchPlay Music Library Window provide direct download access to the entire repertory of multichannel files from within OrchPlay.

  • The user may sort pieces, download and install new files with a single mouse click.
  • It notifies the user when new Orchplay releases are available.
  • The user may queue an unlimited amount of downloads and use OrchPlay while new files are being downloaded.

OrchPlay Music Library[edit]

The OrchPlay Music Library currently offers a selection of more than 100 musical pieces (from short excerpts to full movements) from the symphonic repertoire from late 18th Century to Contemporary. The selection is planned to feature a growing number of complete movements.
