East Worldham is a larger village with a much larger population. Nearby Hartley Mauditt is interesting because it is (from my unbiased point of view) the most haunted place on earth. Hi Dr. Blofeld, Sorry to bother you, but this tamil wikipedian named secretofsuccess (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Secret_of_success) keeps removing hindi script from the article Sholay (and other hindi movie articles). The movies are in HINDI. You can't remove hindi script for the names of HINDI movies. Can you please tell him to stop vandalizing and possibly even give him a warning. 1. no, you did not do anything to offend me...until now. I felt as if I explained the problems several times to you and I was getting no where. I finally X'd the nom when it seemed to me that you were not going to fix the problem. I certainly was not going to change my mind. I have had a recent review removed from prep. and it is not my intention to be that kind of reviewer. When you posted on my user page yesterday, you did not even mention that you had changed the hook. All you had to do was say "I changed the hook, can you take another look at it". I certainly would have under those circumstances. It seemed reasonable to me for me to abandon the process when you come on to my user page and accused me of "making things exceptionally difficult"

2 I very recently suggested on the DYK discussion page that it should be a policy to that a reviewer finish a review once he/she starts it. I was told that that was unreasonable. So, I know I had no duty to continue that review, especially when you had been so contentious to me off the official discussion.

3. If you are disheartened by DYK, either become part of the solution to the problems that are bothering you or take a break from it. This experience with you has certainly disheartened me, especially the comments you made after your nom passed and you had what you wanted.

• Just as a side note: Your nom has been there only a couple of days. Mine has been there a week (just under yours) and no one has touched it. It would have been far better for me to have made a quick pass of your nom (as I have done in the past) which is what I expected when I started it. Then maybe you would have seen mine and considered doing it. But once I realized that you were going to be stubborn about the problem I gave up. 'nuf said. Let's move on.

Haven't used my watchlist since November (schoolwork means that my wikitime is devoted to new writing, when I have any wikitime at all), but I've looked over the article. Note that you're at 3RR; this is definitely edit warring, and although 3RR hasn't been breached, I could block both of you, although since you came in and asked me for help, I suppose I'm involved and shouldn't be issuing any blocks or making any protections. That being said, I have to question the idea of splitting political and cinematographical careers; we don't do that with Arnold Schwarzenegger or Ronald Reagan, the only people whom I can think of that became prominent in film and then held important political posts. Thanks for the contrast with the actor/politicians that I mentioned; since I know very little about either one in India, I didn't know how much or how little was published about this one. I would have been more willing to participate in this situation if it weren't for the edit war; I figured that he'd keep warring against you and break 3RR, so I expected that the situation could easily be resolved with a blatant policy violation on his part. That's why I kept watching and filed the WP:AN3 report as soon as I could. If obviously blockable actions hadn't been likely to happen, I would have been more willing to participate myself, but I expected that this kind of block would be less disputable and more likely to have the desired effect. Thanks, I understand, I have reworded now. I think actually if the article was made into a good article, more people would care about retaining and preserving its quality. I received a nasty message from an ip at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Chief Ministership of N. T. Rama Rao BTW, another POV pusher. The problem is that he is a cult figure amongst the Andhra Pradesh people, and attracts people who want to glorify him or write about, unfortunately its usuauly done with a poor command of English or/and and riddled with POV and lacks RS. Its definitely one of those article which should be watched by a lot of people to look out for it. I care about that particular article as I put a lot of work into cleaning it up about a year and a half ago and getting it up to a half decent structure and standard. If you let these people have their way before you know it it'll be like most of the Indian articles we have on wikipedia.♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:44, 10 March 2012 (UTC)

My only suggestion would be to issue {{uw-npa1}} and successive warnings, since obviously incorrect accusations of vandalism are construed as personal attacks. Nyttend (talk) 16:32, 10 March 2012 (UTC)

When I issue templated warnings, I always use the template name in the edit summary, e.g. the summary is "uw-npa4", so that it's easily visible to anyone looking at the page history. You could do an AIV report with a comment of "user keeps removing warnings". Complicated situations, like today's content dispute, aren't easily blockable without investigation, but I doubt that you'd have difficulty implementing an NPA block when you've been innocent of violating NPA. Frankly, I like the style of older encyclopedias better than the way Wikipedia articles end up, but there's no doubt that your reversion brings the article much closer to our standards. I've got admirers who do that for me, but apparently I've managed to short-circut the system - there's a "follow this link" on Talk:Ioan Gyuri Pascu since forever. I seem to be putting them out faster than they can handle, even when I'm not proposing them myself :D.

But seriously, though I know that the GA review guys are entirely reasonable, I tend to steer away from proposing the articles myself. I was really dissatisfied with the *&$$ᾊθ**ness of the FA process back in the day. It's also that I get much more satisfaction when fellow editors bump into the articles by accident and let me know that they have enjoyed looking over them, even when they do not propose them for GA review. And if they do, then even better. Think of it as my Easter egg hunt :).

I have actually lost track of how many GAs I have, and I never did keep track. But I would sure like to know how many DYKs I've pulled through, because I would really have an interesting benchmark! If you know something about counting DYKs without actually going manually through a backlog (mine or theirs) please let me know.

movie posters

Hey, I see you added some posters to the movie articles. You used the fair use rationale "to provide critical commentary on the film, event, etc. in question or of the poster itself, not solely for illustration" - I don't think this is the case as there is no commentary from the poster, or about the poster, or using the poster as a reference. I think actually use of the poster for illustration only _should_ be fine, but that is apparently not what policy dictates. I think either we would need to remove the posters, or get some consensus/RFC that illustrative only is acceptable (and then we can change the fair use templates). I copied the rationale for the film poster for Fight Club, an FA. If you have a problem with that rationale feel free to address Erik or start a discussion about it. But that templates is used on tens of thousands of wiki articles when the posters are intended to illustrate/identify not used for critical commentary! Agree it is a very strange statement in it which seems to contradict why the posters are being used which is actually solely to identify the product visually in an infobx and not for critical commentary in the text as screenshorts might be. List of jazz standards - some questions "he/she" etc

I made some edits to List of jazz standards in the "A", "B", and "C" sections. I undid the "B" and "C" edits because I realized I need to learn what do do about songs with alternate titles.

I didn't realize - it's a huge issue for that page.

Examples

• What should be done about gender issues? "Crazy He Calls Me" versus "Crazy She Calls Me"?
• C C Rider is listed as See See Rider - how many alternate titles should the song be listed under?
• Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man has two other alternate titles - should they be kept?
• Creole Love Call is also has the alternate "Creole Love Song" - should it be kept?

In my 30s, so I remember the show. Interesting and sad at the same time. On a related note, I saw the documentary Fire in Babylon recently, and some of the West Indian cricketers who toured South Africa in the 1980s are now homeless crack addicts in their home towns. Very sad.

At the moment its Monmouth, the rule is "if it has Monmouth as a blue link" - so "this village 7 miles from Monmouth" is in scope. This going to be big. We have someone fromn the council visiting head office in SF today to discuss. If you are interested then you could and help put up QRpedia codes. I admittedly hadn't heard of it!! So let me get this straight. You are permitted to screw QR plaques into listed buildings and such? And then scan the phone on to the plaque to get the information? Tahiti location map

Hi! I was wondering whether or not you could help me out regarding this location map which you created: File:Location map Tahiti.png Next year Tahiti will be hosting the 2013 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup and a location map will be needed to display the venues for the tournament, as in the 2011 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup. However this file has not been created in the same style as the Italian location map used for the previous World Cup. I was wondering whether you would be willing to create a Tahiti location map (including island of Moorea on the map) in the style of this map: File:Italy provincial location map.svg, as I have no idea how to do it. It seems that you may have created these as unattributed splits from other Wikipedia articles (I'm not sure about all of them, but I know that in this edit, you added content to the article that had been previously published here). I assume that in November 2010 you did not know that content on Wikipedia is not public domain and can only be reused if you provide attribution to its authors. I realized that it's quite possible that you've learned that since then. In accordance with Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia, I've provided attribution in the edit summary of the split article ([8]) and at the talk pages of both articles ([9]; [10]). Can you please come by Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2012 March 3 and repair attribution for any others that may have been split with the requisite notices? We should publish Dahn's articles in a book

Dear Dr. Blofeld,

Allow me to join in your admiration for Dahl de la Macha: he deserves all the laudations that you have bestowed upon him. But permit me to go even further. I think it would be a good idea for us to publish all of Dahn's articles in a book, in the same matter that previous material produced on Wikipedia has been published and sold for profit or for charity. The title of the book could be something in the style of, "Dahn--A Life", or "Dahn's Collective Works". If Dahn chooses to remain anonymous, the mystery surrounding his name could surpass that of Pseudo Longinus; if he, however, chooses to come out, then he could go on a tour ... Why, but Rasselas was written in a week and surely Dahn can't be less industrious than Johnson! (I'm still waiting for Lives of the English Wikipedians). If we must employ logic so to explain his omnipresence, considering that we can neither prove nor falsify anything on this matter, at firt glimpse we'd have to agree that Dahn is a name that stands for a collective of individuals. Alternately, you could summon all Wikipedia bishops to Nicaea and put the matter to vote in order to decide on Dahn's true nature. African films

Thanks. I completed the creation of articles just before I was stopped. Now I'm going to create film articles from this African, Asian and Latin American Film Festival in Italy (22 editions). As you can see here, they adopted CC BY-SA on their texts (with also an English short translation) as a collaboration with Italian Wikipedia. What do you think about this source? I want this read aloud, in a creaky voice, to a drum roll:
Dear Doctor, you are undoubtedly one of the good friends I've made here on wikipedia. It is hard for me to sum up how much I've been helped and touched by your generosity and your wit, your encouragements and your attentiveness, your competence and your passion for editing. It is a subject of pride for me that you so much as read my contributions, let alone reserve praise for them; I know I erred in not showing my appreciation for you, and your work, in all these years we've been colleagues here on wikipedia. If I haven't told you yet, I am your dedicated reader, and, to say the least, the scope of your activity never ceases to amaze me.
If you'll permit me to say, I have always pictured you as one of the wikipedia friends I can never catch up with as much as I should, but whose friendliness, whether they know it or not, has been crucial in helping me return to wikipedia whenever I felt like leaving in disgust. In addition to so quite a few of my fellow Romanian editors (they know who they are!), that category includes luminous figures: (in no particular order) Illythr, Attilios, Tazmaniacs, Piotrus, Khoikhoi, K. Lastochka, Halibutt, Jmabel, Todor Bozhinov, and quite a few others. Some of them, alas, have since retired, but they are all in my thoughts and they all deserve individual praise for writing that has immensely helped this project. You are all decent, well-spoken, competent, helpful beyond what words can express. If ever I have accomplished anything worthy of note on wikipedia, it was by standing on the shoulders of giants, and you, Dr. Blofeld, are one of the gentlest giants out there.
I am sorry for the (surely unnerving) suspense between my last posts. Truth is it took me a while to put this into words, and I am still not entirely satisfied with the result. It is eerily emotional, pathetic even; but I am humbled and grateful, and these are strong emotions to have. I have searched far and wide for a barnstar that would formulate at least part of my esteem, and found that no such barnstar exists; I have pondered fabricating my own award, but that would seem either pompous, self-serving or even frivolous; I have, in the end, decided to attempt my hand at writing you a message that is not just well-deserved and (as you so gently put it) gifted in style, but also has the human touch.

Let's just say I know who the guy is - I keep getting spammed on my rowiki page, which I almost never bother to check, but sometimes he gets so bored that he pings me down here. Sometimes it's okay, but his main problem is that he has to be told when to quit. Dahn, you seem to be having a bad day, so I'll go easy on you (because I'm an awesome guy). The reason I created this account was to make it easier for you to identify me under a nickname rather than under different IPs. I also like to think that it makes my presence warmer than it would otherwise have been, were I to simply post under a "Swedish IP" (to quote Doc). And so to ban this nickname is equivalent as to banning one of those IPs, ergo: it would be useless. It takes less than three seconds to create a new account, albeit under a new IP. If Wikipedia was to ban the motherboard, that would have made things more difficult; but they won't do that for the same reason that many other sites located in America (and in many other countries) won't do it: one is for privacy reasons (they'd have to collect the info and store it); secondly and most importatly, because it would affect many innocent users. Thirdly is because--and this is also fairly important to understand--those sites that enforce a strict protocol and bans many of its users expects a part of them to return, hopefully somehow rehabilitated. And that concludes the technical part of things and the effeciency on banning users. When it comes to Sanger, I'm afraid you lost me on that one. There never was a scandal where I was involved with Sanger and Jimmy. There was one brief discussion on the subject; it was so brief that I doubt any of them remembers it. As for the things you mentioned there, that this and that reminds you of a certain person who was previously banned ... that may very well be, but it still doesn't constitute as proof; and who's to say that someone else residing in the same country where I live wouldn't take on impersonating my style (whoever I might actually be) for his own entertainment? Think about it. If, hypothetically, Wikipedia was to ban this nickname without having adequate proof to connect this account to a previous account, Wikipedia would cheat on its principles; and surely you remember how disciplined and composed the stewarts entrusted with this empowerment are. If they were to investigate on this matter, the only violation they might find, however trivial it may seem, is your editing of my userpage (don't worry, I won't report you). I must say, Dahn, you really do like this gentleman club thing, this whole 18th century style of men-of-letters and this etiquette of greeting one another, paying respects and so on. What a facade this whole business is, or "phony" as Holden would say. So you have some dilettante Westerners reading your stuff and you're all hot about it. That's even lower than self-publishing and advertising it on Facebook. Well, the "utter nonsense" reply I got on DYK did get on my nerves a bit, especially since that user doesn't seem to care about the practical issue I brought up; but I'm not really worked up on any level. I just don't like the proposal, because, I have said, it just moves the problem around - if the issue is the competence of editors to deal with an article's promotion, then making it harder on others to verify that review is not really the way forward. I do not object to having GAs there on principle, I just feel that it is a false solution as far as the desired outcome goes. If you have a problem with, for instance, self-styled pornographic content on the main page, then the GA requirement simply means that the porn enthusiasts will just have to get their articles through the GA net while nobody else is watching. Evening, Dr B. No worries, I'm not taking it anywhere yet, and won't without talking to you. Firstly, I've got to work through Tim's review again, to deal with those points I noted, but didn't action at GA. Then I need to incorporate some of the material he sent, particularly on Burges's furniture, but also, perhaps, adding a section on Trinity, Connecticut, to interest any American reviewers. Then I think both the Metalwork and Stained Glass sections need a bit more, to really demonstrate his notability in these areas. Then we need to decide does the Gallery stay or go? Then the images of him, that add so much to the article, but which will, I fear, be heavily scrutinised - although at least I've got rid of the internet as author! And anything you will want to add. So we're a way off yet. But not too long I think.

Expand language

My point with that new language was to discourage people copy-pasting who can't actually read the original to clean up the bad machine translation. Can you think of a better way to indicate that without making it sound like starting from Google Translate is forbidden? Maybe I could have a note in the collapsed section of the template? Thanks for the barnstar!! Want to brainstorm with me more about optimizing the template? Now that there is a bot adding the article parameters (finally!!), would it make sense to convert everything {{Expand French|articletitle}} to {{Translate|French|article=article title}}? That way there would be less maintenance in terms of maintaining 50 or whatever different Expand Whatever templates. (Would require a repurposing of {{Translate}}, which is currently a redirect to {{Not English}}, which is used pretty infrequently.) On the other hand, it would be harder to customize the topic parameter as needed by language. (e.g. now Japanese has a topic=manga or something like that, which other languages wouldn't need, and many languages shouldn't be subdivided by topic.) Missing articles

The list is actually easy to do - but blue-linking them would lead to problems. See ¡¡¡Natacha!!! which is even now prodded, although the Spanish article indicates there is something of note. Rich Farmbrough, 12:15, 29 March 2012 (UTC).

Unrelated to the discussion at hand, although I was interested in the example Rich provided. The Spanish article says little is known about the book, and although it Is his first in the series, it may be the same book as Natacha (novel), but with exclamation points (based on my limited Spanish and a translator). I am fairly sure that ¡¡¡Natacha!!! and Natacha are the same. The name is the same, the author's list of Natacha books only shows the one and the anniversary set came 10 years after Natacha was published in 1998. On the other hand, he does not list La Tarea Segun Natacha, and that is definitely a book in the series, ISBN 8420458368...

This is just a rough translation. Annoyingly the :es version does not cite sources, and I could not find enough to confirm all or even most of the content. Notable enough though, or at least the series is. Aymatth2 (talk) 17:56, 30 March 2012 (UTC)

I would never add unsourced material to an article, mainly because I never write about subjects I know anything about. But the unsourced material from :es seems plausible, consistent and uncontroversial, so I have no problem leaving it. Aymatth2 (talk) 18:14, 30 March 2012 (UTC)

Africa

I'm sure there are more lurking about, too. I've page-tagged some languages before using only the WP:Language template, for instance. Still...perhaps that's a goal for the end of the year?

How are you intending to count the Africa articles to get up to 100,000? I think a lot of African articles aren't included in the WP:AFRICA count, like articles only tagged with {{WikiProject Morocco}} (and I don't think it makes sense to add the Africa banner to these where they're already tagged with that....). Hydrography

Krenholm Manufacturing Company‎

Much of Krenholm Manufacturing Company is PD content, but if given a good scrub, it could by ydk worthy. I think the closer to 1500 char the better, retaining only the most useful material.
