I have started here User:Nvvchar/sandbox/Miscel. and User:Nvvchar/Sandbox 3. French versions could be translated to expand. I have no knowledge of French and it is left to you to proceed further. I will continue to add as I find more references in English. -- N.V.V. Char Talk . 09:35, 1 August 2010 (UTC)

Enchey Monastery-I could add some more text but not enough. Still 1000 ch short. I don't think I can find more text. I have searched on google very thoroughly. Hence review commnet below DYK needs to be suitably replied. I have fixed all tags to facts in Thimphu. I have added some more text in User:Nvvchar/sandbox/Miscel.. John Hill must have left for India. He has done some editing. You can take a view on posting it on DYK now.-- N.V.V. Char Talk . 15:36, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Conversacionesconmamá1.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Conversacionesconmamá1.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. J Milburn (talk) 16:29, 1 August 2010 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for File:Bueno Airesplateada.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Bueno Airesplateada.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. J Milburn (talk) 18:09, 1 August 2010 (UTC)

Re:mining[edit]

You've caught me in a moment of overload; anyway, I can always try helping a bit, and I'll see what can I do with writing. Mining is partly covered in the articles on individual elements and thus is of relatively low priority. Be careful with local sources, especially in small and developing countries. Geology is economy and economy is politics. The mining numbers can vary drastically depending on the source (many also use very old data without saying that). USGS is considered reliable on WP. The hook for Nickel mining in New Caledonia could say something of the kind ... that the production of nickel ore in New Caledonia had increased nearly 100 times between 1950 and 1970? or ... that New Caledonia is the world's fifth largest producer of nickel? Edit summaries in talk page posts[edit]

Dr B, thank you for discussing things on my talk page ... but please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please stop posting messages with an edit summary which points to a section other than the one where you made your comment, as you did here and here, and on several other occasions. It causes entirely un-necessary disruption when trying to reply in a discussion.

I already mentioned this in my talk, but it still seems to be happening. Please, just stop it. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 19:26, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

Given that you've unjustifiably deleted over 60 potentially decent articles from wikipedia without waiting so much as a few hours for them to be sorted out, I really do think that my perceived "un-necessary disruption " on your talk page is highly trivial in comparison. I would ask you please many more times to just stop wasting everybody's time and doing things to prove your point. As for Jimbo's comments, they are directed largely towards BLPs and to shut the media up to try to point out we care about sources and are reliable. Dr. Blofeld - 15:36, 18 July 2010 (UTC) 19:30, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

Just read Jimbo's comment: it explicitly says that it is not just about BLPs.
I'm not doing anything to prove any point: I am simply removing pointless non-articles, per core policy and guidelines. You evidently disagree, so we discuss it ... but leaving misleading edit summaries is no help to you or anyone else.
As to wasting time, the difficulties you are encountering in your commendable good faith efforts to find sources for the unreferenced sub-stubs are a timely reminder of why Jimbo asks us to remove all unsourced "information". That's where the time is being wasted here: by the fact that some editors angrily object to the removal of material for which the contributor provided no source, and for which they can't find a source. Bizarrely, some editors want these unsourced speculative sub-stubs to remain available to our readers, despite the lack of any evidence that their contents have even a grain of truth in them.
Of course, if you get Jimbo to confirm that your belief he did not mean what he said about sourcing, and that it was all just a ruse to hoodwink the media, then I'll withdraw my objections to the lack of sourcing. Big IF, but you can ask him at User talk:Jimbo Wales. If it's all just a ruse, we can delete WP:V and make editing here much much easier. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 20:06, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

Yeah but there seems to be this huge rush to get things done NOW!! I'm certain his words are being misinterpreted. Remember the BLP proposal a few months back to nuke every unsourced article? Well the community overall objected to this and I believe it stands here. A great deal of our unsourced info is vlaid and only needs backing up with citaitons as in the case of Boleyn's stubs. If you are to read into Nimbo's words it would automatically make it right to remove eveyr single unreferenced article, paragraph and sentnece from wikipedia as "unsourced info must be removed". There is a difference between finding sources to improve it or just blindly deleted anything unsourced for the sake of it. Dr. Blofeld - 15:36, 18 July 2010 (UTC) 20:16, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

If you think that I have "blindly deleted anything unsourced for the sake of it", then you simply haven't been reading what I have written or watched what I have done. I have not deleted any article simply because it is unsourced, tho I have note the lack of sourcing in sub-stubs deleted for other reasons ... but I do think that the repeated addition of unsourced and frequently inaccurate info to wikipedia, as Boleyn has done, is wholly contrary to both the spirit and the letter of what Jimbo has written. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs)

That's not what I meant. You do anything on here for a reason. I agree it is better to source it first time but I don't think the right answer was to delete them. Again we agree in that they should have been created with sources first time. Plaster unsourced tags on them and ask Boleyn to source them asap would have been better I think. The problem I agree is getting people to actually clean them up and fix the issues. Really we should reach a point when yes Boleyn creates stubs but they are sourced and acceptable as a start. Dr. Blofeld - 15:36, 18 July 2010 (UTC) 20:33, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

Sounds like you ain't hearing what I say: I did not delete these sub-stubs because they were unreferenced. I deleted them because they added no content to wikipedia.
An article which simply states "Foo was a bar", when that's already set out in the List of bars, remains pointless even when referenced. There's nothing in it worth keeping. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 02:54, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

FAC reviews[edit]

For the third time, you have been the only reviewer to support a nomination that other reviewers found significant problems with, yet you express shock at previous archivals. Please address why your Support should be taken seriously considering deficiencies found in the article by other reviewers. Also, I note you rarely review, but consistently support nominations by TonyTheTiger, which renders your support declarations dubious, considering deficiencies found by other reviewers. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 19:35, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

FAC is a gruelling process, I shouldn't really be shocked at a very good article failing because of trivial image concerns which could have been quickly fixed. I take your comment here as an accuasation that I am somehow unable to review an articles and am supporting an article which shouldn't be an FA. Well you're the expert, you'll pass it or fail it regardless of whether I support it or not. Dr. Blofeld - 15:36, 18 July 2010 (UTC) 19:54, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

Not very likely after being dead for that long[edit]

It would be quite astonishing for this edit to be justified (you added Category:Members of the United Kingdom Parliament for English constituencies to George Horsey). According to the DNB ref added later, Horsey died 161 years before the Parliament of the United Kingdom was created. Dead people have been elected to Westminster, but not that long dead.

According to the article as it stood then, he was a MP in 1581. It's even more unlikely that he was still an MP 220 years after he first left Westminster.

It's great that you want to try creating some articles on the topics identified by Boleyn, but please can you check the meaning of categories before you add them? Thanks! --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 19:52, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

LOL, you truly are a "know-it-all" aren't you. I was on my way to fix that single error. You may have noticed that I didn't add it to other articles as I "understood the meaning" of UNited Kingdom vs England and the pre 1707 thing. Tell me Brown Haired Girl is there any mistake on here made by anybody that you haven't made a point of identifying? Dr. Blofeld - 15:36, 18 July 2010 (UTC) 19:57, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
Nope, I don't know all that much about huge swathes of the world, but I do know a fair bit about MPs, having spent a quarter-of-a-century of my life studying them and working amongst them. That's one of the reason why I am concerned to see wikipedia's coverage of them degraded by the addition of hundreds of un- or under-referenced sub-stubs with so many errors of fact. Boleyn seems utterly oblivious to factual errors, and when they are drawn to their attention she either objects strongly or ignores what's been said. I continue to believe that you follow a higher standard, which is why I pointed this out to you in the hope that you'd want to avoid such mistakes in future. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 20:13, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

Given that we are all volunteers, we should be grateful we have a contributor like Boleyn who has the desire to create articles on MPs of the Tudor period and evenmore so that she has access to the Oxford Biography and has teh potentila at least to be helping wikipedia with it. Nobody is perfect. Yes I do think that Boleyn should be creating articles with a reliable source initially at at least an MP category but overlal I think her stubs are a positive thing. Nobody wants to do loads of clenaup worki but at least which is why I hope Boleyn can get into the stride of ensuring they are sourced. Ultimately I believe you, I, and Boleyn have the same goals in the long term so I think we should be encouraging and guiding each other to do things as efficiently and correctly as possible. Dr. Blofeld - 15:36, 18 July 2010 (UTC) 20:20, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

You mention above that Boleyn has access to ODNB: many (most?) public library services in the UK make this available online, from any PC, to all their registered readers. Lancashire County Library, for one, is not fussy about where people live when they register to join the library (and you can join it online) - though it may be different for people with non-UK addresses (I don't know where Dr B is based). (Or, come to think of it, BHG - I imagine the island of Ireland but don't know which side of the border). So all UK-based Wikipedians have access to ODNB (and The Times digital archive etc) through their own, or Lancashire, library service (at least until public sector cuts bite too hard). PamD (talk) 21:44, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

It looks as if Lancs library service is open to anyone (possible that the online access might not be, if their licences don't allow): http://www.lancashire.gov.uk/libraries/borrower/join.asp includes "Anyone may join the Lancashire County Library and Information Service. You can join at any age and it’s FREE!" and, more convincingly, "Cards are posted to UK residents only, other users will receive notification by email.". So it might be worth a try! PamD (talk) 21:46, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

Oh OK, thanks Pam I didn't know that. I assumed it was a fee subscription. I'm in Cardiff area, but to join a Lancashire Library wouldbe funny, if they want an old follically challenged evil guy like myself.. Dr. Blofeld - 15:36, 18 July 2010 (UTC) 21:53, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

Cardiff's got ODNB, though not The Times - see http://www.cardiff.gov.uk/content.asp?nav=2868%2C2970%2C4923&parent_directory_id=2865 . If you've got a local library ticket, you can access ODNB right now! It's so sad that the UK public library service collectively have failed to get the message across to lots of lively-minded people like Wikipedians about some of the online goodies they can provide. The other glory at Lancashire is the BL 19th-century newspapers: within 10 minutes of joining Lancashire Library I was looking at the adverts for when my 19th-century house in Leeds was first on the rental market in 1874. PamD (talk) 22:32, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
I have ODNB through my local library in my place-of-exile in God's own county, but sadly it doesn't do the The Times archive, which would be invaluable for 19th-century stuff. However, thanks to Pam's pointer to the Lancashire library, I have now access to The Times archive. Yeeha!
But I do hope they don't cancel my membership on account of them having the wrong-coloured rose ;)--BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 23:44, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

Okay, simply on the basis of your promise to stay away from the conflict for the remainder of the block duration, I am willing to unblock you. That's sort of usual procedure for blocks with established editors, in my understanding. This doesn't reflect on the justification of the original block, nor on the wisdom of making ultimatums like you just did (Well, I have to admit, if I imagine I were to be blocked myself, I might be tempted to react like that too.). Note that I consulted about this with Sarek off-wiki. Fut.Perf. 18:45, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

Thankyou. I've offered BHG an apology, I thought it necessary, sorry if it goes against what i said but it needed to be said to clear the air. I genuinely apologise for my use of the word "psychopath" on here. It was more out of frustration than anything that I thought I was getting somwhere with BrownhairedGirl last night only to find a speedy deletion warning on my tlak page which seemed delibrarely antagonistic. I do realise that such is the strictness of NPA on here that who cannot direct any type of word towards an editor. It seemingly pales in comparison though to everything else that has happened involving Boleyn but Brown Haired Girl had some valid concerns in places evne if I disagreed with the way she viewed them. I genuinely want to produce good content. fix errors and actually work/befriend Brown Haired Girl as we seem to share a lot of interests. It was frustrating when I saw a speedy warning on my talk page by her this person. She was not here this morning and nobody was here to restore any to I got on with the job. Admittedly I initially in a rush because I thought restoring them would stop Boleyn leaving wikipedia but it didn't. The best way as the wise Charles Matthews said is to be patient and recreate them with adequate info in our own busy schedule. I would rather work with BHG to produce decent content which we both know each other are capable of and stop this ongoing uneasiness. Afghanistan[edit]

I always said articles like that needed a little time to develop - we just need to get more of the world online, with more information digitized and available. It'll take some years, but we'll get there. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 07:28, 8 August 2010 (UTC)

The NRHP is potentially limitless, once you factor in all the contributing buildings and properties from all the local historic districts. And then the state registers...Maryland's alone is scary enough. It's amazing to think of what's out there and available. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 16:30, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
Well, the thing about the Register - contributing properties included - is that the local nominating authority has to get together enough information to prove historic importance before handing it over to the federal authorities. So there has to be some kind of a paper trail, digitized or not. At the very least, I'm sure the local historical society holds on to some of that material for their archives.
We'll see - I want to potentially be out the door by 1:30 to get downtown early enough. I should have gotten up an hour earlier, grumble grumble. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 16:39, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
Well, the trouble with hotel articles has always been that there's too much potential for them to come across as tourist pages, not encyclopedia articles. That's compounded by the fact that much of the information available comes from tourist organs. It's tricky to weed out what's worthwile. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 14:22, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

Vittorio Lighthouse[edit]

Hi there. I created Vittoria Light not being aware that Vittorio Lighthouse already exists. I just looked at it:Faro della Vittoria and noticed it. As the article I created seems much more complete, and I think the name is also more appropriate, I redirected Vittorio Lighthouse to Vittoria Light. I hope this is not a problem. Best regards. --Muhandes (talk) 14:41, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

Not a problem. In future though it would be best to move the page and get an admin to do it. Good work. Dr. Blofeld 14:43, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

Just for future reference for myself, can you explain further what I should have done? Which page should I have moved and where? And what should have I asked an admin to do? I already created the page, so I wasn't sure what the 'proper' thing would be. --Muhandes (talk) 14:48, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

Right. You created the article Vittoria Light. Then you discovered Vittorio Lighthouse. What you should have done is pasted your article into the Vittorio Lighthouse article. Then got an admin to delete Vittoria Light. Then you should have moved Vittorio Lighthouse (click the down arrow at the top of the page) to Vittoria Light. That way the oroginal creator would be mentioned and shows you build upon it in the history. Dr. Blofeld 15:31, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

Thanks, I'll do it this way the next time.I can put a {{copied}} or a {{merged-from}} on the new name to the old one, if you think it is appropriate. --Muhandes (talk) 18:33, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Johannes Poulsen[edit]

The article Johannes Poulsen has been proposed for deletion because under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners or ask at Wikipedia:Help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Contribs Muslim Editor Talk 07:37, 11 August 2010 (UTC)

The person died in 1938. This has nothing to do with WP:BLP. Doc, how are you? Just passing by. Dr.K. λogosπraxis 07:45, 11 August 2010 (UTC)

Hello fellow Doctor! Perhaps he thinks its 1935? Dr. Blofeld 08:11, 11 August 2010 (UTC)

I suspect it's to distinguish from bookstores, which are booksellers as well, even if not labeled as such. I can see someone attempting to tag Barnes & Noble as a "bookseller", for instance. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 13:59, 12 August 2010 (UTC)

Seriously, it is a bit of a bottomless pit. Charles Kabanda seems interesting for example, but it takes time to figure out the structure and linkages in a subject area to avoid duplicating propaganda. I have been feeling a bit pessimistic about the project lately. I have the feeling the number of contributors is staying level or dropping while the number of vandals and poor-quality articles keeps rising. Just a mood, I hope. Hi Dr. B, just a quick note to say that I'll try to get back later today to expanding Sir Robert Ainslie, 1st Baronet, but have been side-tracked.

Whilst trawling through 1910 MPs, I found one Frederick William Verney, who turns out to be rather fascinating, allowing me to write a lead which I can't just leave without further expansion. It's just too improbable to stay without further expansion. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 16:50, 12 August 2010 (UTC)

Since you seem to have interest in organizing things, maybe you can have a look at Wikipedia_talk:Naming_conventions_(geographic_names)#Country_subdivisions - would you support table inclusion? Commenting votes[edit]

Don't get upset about the flak you took for your recent vote. For making a similar observation in my vote on that same RfA I was publicly hung drawn, and quartered earlier in the 'oppose' section, by two teenage admins (one who actually lied) in defence of their teenage candidate, I wholly support your comments on that RfA, and it's time some admins realised that an RfA is for critisicsng the candidate, not the voters, and that the encyclopedia (to quote several others) is in danger of being run by children.--Kudpung (talk) 01:41, 16 August 2010 (UTC)

Couldn't agree more. I think it is because people think we are "desperate for admins". The people who become administrators these days are rarely active contributors to the encyclopedia. In fact the more active you are with policing the site the less likely you are to actually contribute. So in the end most of our "representatives" are the ones who may be good with sorting out disputes/reverting vandalism but are poor site developers. It is important to have admins reverting vandalism but it would seem that content means little or nothing to a lot people who vote for admins. the best admins are those which find a balance between writing articles and their admin duties, User:YellowMonkey would be one of the best examples of this. If more candidates were like User:Jmh649 I'd support them all because they obviously care about developing the encyclopedia itself. Dr. Blofeld 09:19, 16 August 2010 (UTC)

Haha yes. Actually you'll find that is 5 months out of date and that its probably 60,000 by now, I've been starting a lot of articles in the last two months. Somebody has to get content started..... Dr. Blofeld 09:07, 16 August 2010 (UTC)

I think you should become an admin, although I am aware that you might not be fond of it. However, when I see 5k edits people apply for admins, who will have heavier tools they might apply against people like you, I wonder whether the system is a good one. That's why I think that in general a person with 100,000 edits should be given automatically the admin tools, which he/she may choose not to use. --Sulmues (talk) 14:40, 16 August 2010 (UTC)
mmmmmm you kind of look like one the robot from MST3K, any relation? :D I dont know if I should feel inferior, or feel relieved to know my WP addition could be a lot worse. hee hee As for admin, I dont think good admin and good writing really relate. Admin takes up a lot of time and you kind of have to like getting into fights. I know I have no interest in that. I prefer creating and improving content as well. I just need back up on the proofreading!Thelmadatter (talk) 15:43, 19 August 2010 (UTC)
In all honesty, the only thing I can think of that you might want to use among the admin tools is editing protected pages. Otherwise, at this point, I think your reputation as a tremendously effective content producer has proven to all the admins that you are as dedicated to the project as they are, probably more so. If there is one person whose reputation would not suffer by not being an admin, it's you.
By the way, I am now trying to start lists of periodicals relevant to the various projects. I expect it to take a while, considering the summary of the projects, just the names, takes six pages. But, with any luck, we might be able to make it easier for people to find sources to develop content, even if it is related to an area they don't know very well, in, maybe, a few months. Hey, it's better than what we had. John Carter (talk) 00:24, 20 August 2010 (UTC)

Welcome back. If you're planning to address my question, could you please let me know soon? The reason I asked is that I couldn't see any reason for the split or the different attributes, so I was going to merge each of those pages into a single table, but I thought there must have been some reason why you did it that way, and perhaps I shouldn't tamper with it before finding out. Proposed deletion of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Belmopan)[edit]

The article Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Belmopan) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This is a local LDS meetinghouse of no particular importance or notability; see the LDS Church's meetinghouse locator tool to look up tens of thousands of other similar structures all over the world. This is NOT a temple, as there are no LDS Temples in Belize

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. 208.81.184.4 (talk) 20:25, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

The traslations are not compltete. Some of the facts do not tally with references I found. It was too taxing and I gave up.-- N.V.V. Char Talk . 14:41, 25 August 2010 (UTC)

By moving some of the aticles to main space, the time available for completing the reamining articles even to reasonable level for posting on DYK is too tight. I will try to contribute. There is no reason at all for me get annoyed with you. We will continue to work together but only if the expansion of the articles is limited and not what has happened with Vietnam articles. You are welcome to help in upgrading my Alaska articles to GA status. I will probably do the Lang Son artcile now that I have all the references. I continue to be your Indian friend. Thank you.-- N.V.V. Char Talk . 12:50, 26 August 2010 (UTC)
Lang Son is almost done. You can probably remove the untranslated and un-refrenced versions, and after your editing move it to main space. I will do Yen bai tomarrow. I hope we can meet the dead line.-- N.V.V. Char Talk . 17:57, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

Sorry, I've been a bit slow in the actual writing due to all the photography and spamming of resources YellowMonkey (new photo poll) 08:09, 27 August 2010 (UTC)

I have completed my inputs to Quảng Ninh article at User:Nvvchar/Vietnam Province 8. But some other unnamed user has restored the original artcile in the main space to about 16000 ch. You may like to now shift our article to main space after you finish your editing and inputs. I will try to do one more article tomarrow, if I find time, since I have guests with me at home from the US.-- N.V.V. Char Talk . 17:36, 27 August 2010 (UTC)
I have done my bit with Nvvchar/Vietnam Province 7. My brther-in-law is annoyed with me for ignoring him. I am off for a few hours. The cusine part could probably deleted if you can't find the treaslation and related rference.-- N.V.V. Char Talk . 12:42, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
I have completed inputs to Ha Giang. I have removed most of the untranslated versions. You may like to remove the tag and also add and edit. What more is left?-- N.V.V. Char Talk . 09:59, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
I have completed Bac Giang now. Lot more needs to be done on other articles too as suggested by User:Material Scientist. I will continue tomarrow morning-- N.V.V. Char Talk . 18:17, 30 August 2010 (UTC)
  • Tuyen Quang is mostly completed except for references to History section. Tags have been removed after adding references. Even in other articles, I have added text to the lead and also other texts and conversions. All the infoboxes have also been updated with 2008 statistics. You may like to add more and also find more references. As regards Yen Bai, I have added text from the book pages furnished by Yellow Monkey.-- N.V.V. Char Talk . 16:05, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

Advice[edit]

Blofeld, my dear old bean

Could you please take your view on the behaviour of User:Quadruplum. This user has recently registered, and I am pretty sure is the same user as from IP editing on several Hungarian articles, which you can see through the user's contributions so I shan't list here.

I had for a short while a feeling that this user was a meatpuppet of the banned user User:Strubes99, but I don't think so. I think his behaviour is more of good faith but misguided edits. If you look at a request here and User:Monkap:ÁNYOS JEDLIK you will see something of an identity, and also then in the article Ányos Jedlik after she and I have translated. Similarly with Louis Kossuth (sic) where I told him quoting from the Encyclopaedia Brittanica was OK in small doses if it was sourced.

This editor seems to be demanding a lot of Monkap's and my time to kinda translate or refer things on demand, i.e. do the hard work, while he makes silly changes to other articles. Not bad, just silly. He was at AN/I a few days a go and I said stop off cos he is a new editor. I will get that out of the archive if you wish. I do think he is a good faith editor, I am not sure if he has a definite pro-Hungarian agenda, and believe me my partner, now my fiancée I am sure you will be glad to hear, User:Monkap does not have a Pro-Hungarian nor anti-Hungarian agenda, we try to get it right with the sources we have. So I am not sure if this chap is actively trying to screw it up, which as you well know in the central eurpeon stuff well say no more, or is doing it accidentally. I *think* he is doing it accidentally, and a kind word from you (please check his contrib history) might sort it out.

My best wishes. The offer for occasional Hungarian translation is still open (or French or Latin on my part.) Just don't bombard us with them, OK?

Best to you.

S.

Goodnestone park[edit]

Hello Blofeld, I see you have created some DYKs on historic houses recently. Nice work. Are you familiar with Goodnestone Park in Goodnestone, Dover. I've seen this picture of the park in my copy of Literary guide to Great Britain. Spectacular image in public domain I believe and I think we should have an article on the park. Cheers--Chanaka L (talk) 02:32, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the greetings. Nice work and excellent photos. I've read somewhere that Jane Austen modeled the Rosings Park of Pride and Prejudice on Goodnestone park, however I can't remember where. When I recalled that I'll add that fact to the article. Wish to visit the place. :)--Chanaka L (talk) 10:47, 26 August 2010 (UTC)
I'll certainly do that. Well, We need only 4 more national park articles to complete the list. I am trying to do a triple hook for Somawathiya, Floodplains, Maduru Oya, all of them are declared under the Mahaweli River development project. Then the newest and the 21st Ussangoda, perhaps it can stay as stub for while as it is only 2 months old. Perhaps you and Navvchar might interested in creating the Somawathiya Chaitya, it was built to enshrine a relic of the tooth of the Buddha which was in the possession of Arahat Mahinda, twin brother of Sangamitta. No pressure whatsoever though, if you could find time. Cheers--Chanaka L (talk) 12:26, 26 August 2010 (UTC)
Got it. Hope Navvchar will continue to collaborate with you and with me as well. Hope I can push Yala NP to a GA, User:Jimfbleak is kindly helping me with it.--Chanaka L (talk) 12:37, 26 August 2010 (UTC)
Good luck with Scottish maps, Let's invite your parents to read the article, when it get to GA status, they will please to see it. Cheers--Chanaka L (talk) 12:51, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

George and Goodnestone and Regency Square[edit]

Hi again. Yep, I did put The George hook forward :) Luckily I have all the standard reference works on Crawley (there aren't many), plus quite a few more obscure papers/articles etc. Sadly I can't help much once we cross the border into Kent, but I'll do a copyedit later. (If I find Pevsner's Kent volume in the Buildings of England series, I will add bits; it might be in the library.) And thx again for nominating Regency Square as GA! Cheers, Hassocks5489 (tickets please!) 12:11, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

Yes, that would be very useful – thanks. There may be other Sussex area maps that would be beneficial; I'll let Nilfanion know if I think of any more. I'm happy for you to nominate others I've written that you feel are worthy of GA; as you know I tend to move on to the next thing(s) once I have got as far as I can, and don't tend to go back and nominate things myself. I need to add more to the architecture section of The George, and take some more pics next time I'm in Crawley, so that one's not quite ready yet. Hassocks5489 (tickets please!) 12:37, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

Maps[edit]

Welsh maps are now done as well, see Pontypridd for an example. -- WOSlinker (talk) 19:02, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

Would the Template:Location map Scotland Glasgow map be better with the File:Glasgow UK blank map.svg image? -- WOSlinker (talk) 20:21, 26 August 2010 (UTC)
Is there a plan to update the English county maps at some point as well? -- WOSlinker (talk) 20:47, 26 August 2010 (UTC)
Would it be better to wait for the roads then before updating the English maps? -- WOSlinker (talk) 20:57, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

Palasa[edit]

Don't worry Palase will soon be surrounded by the Greek team and the Albanian one and edit-warred just like Qeparo and Himara, but probably to a lesser extent. Just wait and see, it WILL expand very soon.--Sulmues (talk) 19:56, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

It would come sooner or later. The problem will be: are they Greeks or Albanian. Do they speak Greek or Albanian. All these villages some to a smaller some to a bigger extent are bilingual. There is a study from scholar Gregoric you might want to read (see p.63 in [3]). It's for the whole region and very specific on the language and ethnicities and it's in English: perfect RS, but then the Greeks will want to rely on travel guides only. See RfC in Qeparo too please, but don't get involved there, because I'll be accused of canvassing. --Sulmues (talk) 20:10, 26 August 2010 (UTC)
Nice job on Palase. @Sulmues please, this is not a battleground scene.Alexikoua (talk) 21:28, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

Thanks Alexikoua. Dr. Blofeld 21:30, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

GAs[edit]

Excellent. Thanks for reviewing it. Hassocks5489 has a wealth of high quality architectural articles. He is the most resourceful editor I know in terms of books on architecture. Check out his additions to The George Hotel, Crawley. I was asotunded that he managed to write that much about it on top of what I'd written! Talk about specialist knowledge! I had no idea the hotel was quite that notable when I started it! I'm certian he has at least 10 articles already on Brighton/Crawley which are GA standard. I don't want him to feel pressured though. I'll peruse them of his articles and recommend nominating a few more I think. Regards.

Mmm do you think The George Hotel, Crawley stands a chance of GA. I know the history section is very long in comparison to the rooms/haunting section but it only reflects what knowledge that exists on it I think. I think it is about as comprehensive as it can be... Dr. Blofeld 11:58, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

There's certainly a lot of information there, and given that it is a small, self-contained topic, it is easier to pass through GA criteria than the big complex topics (such as George Washington which is one I am currently struggling with). The history section is long and detailed (haven't read it all, just glanced at it), and that might be broken down into sections to make it more manageable. Also, given the amount of history, the lead looks rather short on historical details. The aim of the lead is not to be an introduction, but to be a mini article which can stand on its own - the idea being that people can read the short article and get the main facts, and can then decide to read the main article for more detail if they wish - selecting which sections they want to focus on - or reading the whole thing if they have the time and inclination. The quality of the images isn't great, but is good enough to pass GA criteria, which simply asks to make sure the images are legal, are appropriate, and the captions fit WP:Captions. I think that it would pass with just a little work - though I would need to read it carefully and do a bit of background checking to say exactly how much. Sort out the history section, and beef up the lead and get Hassocks to nominate it. SilkTork *YES! 23:00, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

Greenland[edit]

Replying here rather than hijacking [User_talk:Algkalv#Greenland Do you have any more list articles with these problems? I have been creating and removing junk from "List of companies of X" articles but I am sure there are others with issues too. I've been playing around with a bot to watch such lists and revert any redlinks or external links that are added - some high traffic lists with lots of such additions would be really useful heuristics for me if you could point me in the right direction. --Errant [tmorton166] (chat!) 21:00, 27 August 2010 (UTC)

Vietnamese rivers[edit]

OK - I'm creating them now. I'll create them in English, and then add the interwiki once I've done. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 13:46, 31 August 2010 (UTC)
Sure thing. Happy to be of help. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 13:54, 31 August 2010 (UTC)
OK - I've created the river categories. A couple of the geo-cats, but mostly the rivers; they need interwiki-ing, though. I'll maybe get to that later, after I've done some other work. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 14:11, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

Right - I've done two columns' worth - I have to move on to other things for now. If you haven't gotten back to them later I'll do the last few. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 14:35, 31 August 2010 (UTC)
I'll see if I have time after lunch - I should be able to get to a few, at least. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 14:43, 31 August 2010 (UTC)
