History[edit]

Dragon Ball[edit]

12-year old Goku in the original Dragon Ball series.

Son Goku appears as a 12-year-old, seemingly ordinary, child living in the woods alone. He meets up with Bulma Briefs and joins her on her search for the mysterious dragon balls. In this initial plot arc we see Goku meet several key characters, including Kame Sen'nin, Emperor Pilaf, Oolong, Yamcha, Chi-Chi, Gyu Mao, Krullin. Goku begins his training under Kame Sen'nin in preparation for his first Tenka'ichi Budokai.

In this saga we are also introduced to Shenlong (Dragon Ball), Goku's Oozaru transformation, and the famous kamehameha attack.

In the second major story arc of the Dragon Ball series, Goku faces off against the Red Ribbon Army. Other than confronting and defeating Commander Red and his army, Goku becomes unwittingly engaged, stumbles upon Penguin Village (inhabited by characters from Toriyama's previous manga, Dr. Slump), and trains under Korin so that he may beat Tao Pai Pai.

In order for Goku to find the final dragon ball and revive a new friend's father (who had just been killed by the mercenary Tao Pai Pai), he must seek out the fortuneteller Baba and defeat her five otherworldly champions. Here he meets his long dead adoptive grandfather "grandpa" Son Gohan. Following that, he begins another training mission so that he may be ready for the next tournament in three years time.

The rest of the saga follows the happenings of the 22nd Tenka'ichi Budokai. Goku has a hand in turning the earlier met Tenshinhan and Chaozu away from their evil master.

Goku rushes off after Kuririn is killed suddenly by a demon, created and sent by the newly awakened Demon King Piccolo. Goku rushes to Korin for training so that he may defeat this new threat and is ultimately able to deefat Piccolo, but not before he births Ma Junior.

Goku begins his training in preperation for this new threat. He is instructed by Mr. Popo, and later Kami himself. Goku trains under Kami for the next three years.

Goku arrives at the 23rd Tenka'ichi Budokai and soon fights in the finals against the now full-grown Piccolo. Goku is able to defeat him eventually, earning Goku his first and only championship title. In an act of mercy, Goku gives Piccolo a magically healing senzu bean and lets him go after the tournament.

The rest of this final Dragon Ball arc shows Goku's wedding to Chi-Chi, and his saving of Mount Frypan (her home) which had been set ablaze.

Dragon Ball Z[edit]

Goku appears after a five year absence with his new son, Gohan, who is promptly captured by Goku's long long brother Raditz. Goku teams up with his rival Piccolo to get Gohan back, and succeeds, but at the cost of his life. Goku then begins his training with Kaio in the afterlife, where he leans the Kaioken and Genki Dama techniques.

Upon returning to Earth, Goku fights and defeats the invading saiyans, Nappa, and Vegeta. After the battle, he must wait until he is fully healed before he can join his friends and son on the far-off planet Namek.

Goku is first shown fighting in a tournament in the afterlife
