I’m a former Whitehall civil servant. During a long and varied career I contributed to and led on a wide range of issues related to UK government policy towards industry, the economy and the regions, and worked with a variety of well-known government ministers, including Michael Heseltine. My involvement in Wikipedia came about when by chance I came across a Wikipedia article on Ashdown Forest in East Sussex, and was surprised by how sketchy it was. I knew my youngest daughter regularly referred to Wikipedia when researching school projects, and that she wouldn't be unusual in that respect, so I decided to become an editor and see if I could improve the Ashdown Forest article. One thing led to another. I also now do a lot of independent research on social and economic history and that has increased my determination to see that Wikipedia articles - where they touch on areas I am familiar with - achieve a respectable level of rigour and factual accuracy.
