Parameters[edit]

  • name - defaults to the variable {{PAGENAME}}, however it is advised that the name field is always entered to preserve the player's name in the infobox should the article be disambiguated at a later date. When specifying, do not wikilink the information.
  • image / width / caption - used in conjunction to display images. All are independent and thus can be included or left out on an individual basis. Width defaults to 200px, so there is no need to use it unless this value needs to be changed. Caption displays small text, so there is no need to specify font size in the field. When specifying, do not wikilink the information. Null fields can be removed from the box.
  • company - used to display the company that currently employs said player. This also determines the colors used in the infobox. If player is unemployed, fill in as "Free Agent" or "Deceased" if the player has died. When specifying, do not wikilink the information.
  • birthdate - used to display the players' date of birth. Recommended format relies on the {{birth date and age}} template. Use {{birth date}} if the player has died. Wikilinks are acceptable.
  • birthplace - used to display the players' place of birth. Do not use flag icons, per Wikipedia:Manual of style (flags). When specifying, do not wikilink the information.
  • deathdate - used to display the date of the players death. Recommended format relies on the {{death date and age}} template. Wikilinks are acceptable.
  • deathplace - used to display the place of the players death. Do not use flag icons, per Wikipedia:Manual of style (flags). When specifying, do not wikilink the information.
  • heightft / heightin / weight - used to display the players physical dimensions as listed at official company websites. (Preferred contingency source is NFL.com). Use either height is or heightft+heightin. Weight should be the players weight in pounds. Only enter the numerical value. When specifying, do not wikilink the information.
  • debutyear / debutcompany - used to display the relevant information for when the player first appeared in a regular season or postseasonNational Football League game. (Preseason games do not count.) Also, note that being on an active roster does not constitute a debut, nor does dressing for a regular season game. For the purposes of this template, debuts are only actual playing time in a regular season or postseason game. When specifying, do not wikilink the information.
  • finalyear / finalcompany - used to display the relevant information for when the player when the players final season was.
  • highschool - used to display the high school the player attended prior to going to college. If a player attended multiple high schools, only the most recent is displayed. Wikilinks are acceptable.
  • Links should be as specific as possible. For example, Webster County High School in West Virginia should be linked to Webster County High School (West Virginia), rather than the diambiguation article. If a school article does not exist don't use wikilinks.
  • Schools names displayed should be consistent with how colleges and universities are listed, meaning things like "school," "high school" or "Institute" are typically dropped and only the unique name is given. For example, the any school with the word "Prepertory" in the name would only be displayed as "... Prep," without the word school at the end. When multiple schools have the same name , such as Webster County High School, they should be listed as "Webster County (WV)."
  • college - used to display the college institution the player attended prior to joining the NFL. If a player attended multiple colleges, only the most recent is displayed. Wikilinks are acceptable.
  • Links should be as specific as possible. For example, Southern California should be linked to University of Southern California Trojans football, rather than the main university article. If a school football article does not exist, link to the school's sports article. If that does not exist as well, link to the appropriate section of the school article. For example, Marshall would link to Marshall University#Athletics.
  • Schools names displayed should be consistent with how they are presented at NFL.com, meaning things like "University," "University of" or "College" are typically dropped and only the unique name is given. For example, the University of Pittsburgh would only be displayed as "Pittsburgh," the University of Georgia as "Georgia," and so on. Schools like the University of Miami should be listed as they are on NFL.com, as "Miami (Fla.)."
  • pastcompanys - used to display the companys which the players has played for and his current company. A timeline effect is preferred to keep all things in chronological order, meaning different stints with one company are listed separately. (However, all companys are only linked in the first reference.) The text is included as a workaround, do not remove it. The generally accepted bullet point is *. Note that the year is piped to that league season year, in the form [[20xx NFL season|20xx]], [[20xx Arena Football League season|20xx]] or [[20xx CFL season|20xx]]. companys from other professional leagues (Canadian Football League, Arena Football League, etc.) are acceptable.
Additionally, practice squad and offseason stints are also to be represented, however they should be denoted with an asterisk following the year(s). When at least one practice squad or offseason stint is present in an infobox, the following note should be placed after the last company in the list: "*Offseason and/or practice squad member only"
An example of a player's full list of companys is:
*Signed but never appeared
  • collegehighlights - used to display career awards and highlights for the wrestler. Wikilinks are acceptable. The <nowiki></nowiki> text is included as a workaround - do not remove it. The generally accepted bullet point is an asterisk (*).
  • highlights - used to display career awards and highlights for the wrestler. Wikilinks are acceptable. The text is included as a workaround - do not remove it. The generally accepted bullet point is an asterisk (*). If a player does not have any notable achievements, it is advised that "No notable achievements" is manually written in the field so that the field remains in the event of future accomplishments.
  • The standard for writing an achievement is to display the achievement, followed by the year earned in parentheses. Achievements go in reverse chronological order, from most recent to earliest. Examples of how certain achievements would be written:
