Song

"Yummy" is a song by American singer Gwen Stefani, from her second studio album, The Sweet Escape (2010). It was written by Stefani and Pharrell Williams, who also solely produced the song. It was recorded during several sessions in Miami in July 2005, for an intended EP or as extra tracks on a DVD.[1] The songs also ended up being playing during a premiere fashion show for Stefani's fashion line, L.A.M.B..[2]

Interscope Records released the track as a promotional single a month before the album's release in November 2006. It was released as a three-track maxi promo single and as a 12" vinyl single, where both of them featured a radio edit, an instrumental, and a cappella version of the song.[3][4]

Background and Recording[edit]

After the release of Love. Angel. Music. Baby., Stefani originally intended to return to No Doubt and start recording tracks for their sixth studio album, which would later be titled: Push and Shove, but instead Pharrell Williams convinced her to record several more songs in Miami in July 2005. Together they recorded "Wind It Up", "Orange County Girl", "U Started It", "Breakin' Up", "Candyland", and "Yummy". [5]

Critical reception[edit]

Upon release, the song generally received mixed reviews. Robert Christgau cited the song as a "choice cut" ((choice cut)).[6]

Live performances[edit]

Stefani included the song on the setlist for her 2006 world concert tour entitled The Sweet Escape Tour. The song was also played during Stefani's fashion shows.
