Simon Leonard Andersson (born 15 January 2001) is a Swedish professional footballer who plays for Hammarby TFF as a goalkeeper. He is a product of the Halmstads BK academy and was capped by Sweden at youth level.

Club career[edit]

Halmstads BK[edit]

A goalkeeper, Andersson joined the Halmstads BK academy at the age of 6 and progressed to sign his first professional contract in November 2017.[3][4] He featured regularly as an unused substitute during the 2018 season and received calls into the club's Allsvenskan and Svenska Cupen squads.[5] Andersson failed to make a senior appearance before his departure from the Örjans Vall in August 2018.[6]

Brentford[edit]

On 31 August 2018, Andersson moved to England to join the B team at Championship club Brentford on a three-year contract.[6] He made 15 appearances during each of the 2018–19 and 2019–20 seasons and was a part of the squad which won the 2018–19 Middlesex Senior Cup.[7][8][9] After his game time was restricted during the 2020–21 season,[10] Andersson had his contract terminated by mutual consent in March 2021.[11]

IF Elfsborg[edit]

On 23 March 2021, Andersson joined Allsvenskan club IF Elfsborg on a free transfer and signed a contract running until 30 June 2021,[11][12] which was later extended until 31 July.[13] Andersson failed to win a call into a first team squad and was released when his contract expired.[5][13]

Lower-league football[edit]

On 10 August 2021, Andersson signed an undisclosed-length contract with Ettan Norra club Sollentuna FK.[14] He made 38 appearances across the 2021, 2022 and 2023 seasons and departed the club at the end of the 2023 season.[15][16] Following trials with Trelleborgs FF and GIF Sundsvall,[17][18][19] Andersson signed a half-season contract with Ettan Norra club Hammarby TFF in February 2024.[20]

International career[edit]

Andersson was capped by Sweden at U17 and U19 level.[15] He was called up to a mixed U19/U20 training camp in January 2020.[21]

Personal life[edit]

Andersson moved from Stockholm to Halmstad in 2007, at the age of six.[3]
