Hello[edit]

Hi there I was wondering if you could help rewrite the article on the Federation credit, This article is totally inaccurate and misleading and I believe it needs to be completely redone or deleted. Since you contributed to the talk page with some useful information I was hoping you could help rewriting it. I've already put up inaccuracy and rewrite templates on the page but no one has taken any action yet. I would edit it myself but I'm afraid on this I don't know where to start as the article is just so wrong. Any help will be appreciated, thanks. --Hibernian 13:40, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

Manden Charter/Kouroukan Fouga[edit]

Hi. My name is Scott and I'm a researcher of Africana, specifically the Mali Empire. I recently discovered you had a page up on the Manden Charter. From what I can tell, this is the same as the Kouroukan Fouga/Kouroukan Fougan (the constitution of the Mali Empire). I set up a page a while back for this subject Kouroukan Fouga and its pretty detailed. I wanted to know if you'd be opposed to deleting the Manden Charter page and maybe adding some of its details to the kouroukan fouga or possibly just make a redirect from Manden Charter to Kouroukan Fouga. I know deleting a page is rather extreme and I see you were doing a translation (very commendable btw); however, the Manden Charter has at least one serious error. Sundiata/Sundjata came to power at 1230 AD at the earliest. Most authors are pretty satisfied with the date of 1235. i've got a lot more info on the mali empire on the Mali Empire page which i've been workin my butt of at (just put up an infobox). Please hit me back and let me know what you think.

thnx 4 your time Scott Free 20:57, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

Rotuma[edit]

No, the 1997 constitution puts Rotumans on a roll of their own, distinct from the Fijian roll. The Rotuman roll covers the entire nation of Fiji, and elects one member to the House of Representatives. David Cannon 11:41, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

Bush Doctrine[edit]

so its ok for someone to says it legal for saddam to kill his people however he wants, but it isnt alright for us to invade the country? dude if u want to critisize bush thats fine, but dont tell me to get off my soapbox, that opinion in there is just as much so. should i dig up like 100,000 different people saying it was justified? that part of the article was completly unbalanced and you know it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.60.106.216 (talk) 21:55, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Moti Article - My Apologies[edit]

Apologies Aridd, I didn't assume Good Faith and thought it was other users playing funny buggers again with this article (Which has happened beforehand). That being the background, it's still no excuse for my not assuming good faith on the part of the edit - misquoting happens all time completely innocently and I should've assumed it was an honest mistake. You have my unreserved and complete apology for any offence I may have caused you - I can assure you that was never my intent... I should've just made the edit, noted that the quote omitted the reference to the RSIP and was made incorrectly and left it at that. Again, I'm very sorry and will make that apology public if you wish it so. For the record, I've always found your edits to be very sound, reasonable and balanced, and a welcome contribution to an article that has had some "problem-contributions". Kiribatian[edit]

As I have noted on the talk page of the election article, I understand that I-Kiribati is used to refer to the inhabitants of the country, by for things of or related to the country Kiribatian is used. пﮟოьεԻ 57 13:54, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Also, please don't change the links until the article has actually been moved. Cheers, пﮟოьεԻ 57 13:57, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Based on what I've found, for things of/ things related to Kiribati, "I-Kiribati" or just "Kiribati" is used, but never "Kiribatian". See my full reply here. Aridd (talk) 14:24, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Gilberts settled between 3000 BC and 1300 AD?[edit]

I don't have the specific publication you cited, but 3000 BC sounds quite ridiculous. Most sources I have seen say 3000 years ago, which would make it more like 1000 BC. In fact, Atoll Research Bulletin #501 argues that stable islets may not have even been formed until about 2000 years ago, constraining the possibility of the Gilberts being inhabited. --Henry W. Hmm... Aspects of History... I have been meaning to pick me up a copy of this book. There is one on Amazon used for 19USD. That listing seems to be for a (paperback) reprint from the USP in '98. Is this what you have? --Henry W. Schmitt (talk) 22:40, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
Not any entire books, just little sections in books. My current goal is to travel to Kiribati to write an entire atlas type book with detailed write ups on each aspect of their culture and the geography of their islands. Right now I am perfecting my photography skills, one of many skills I will need to accomplish such a project. --Henry W. Schmitt (talk) 22:59, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Federation Credit[edit]

Hi, I must say I'd almost forgotten about this issue, thanks for reminding me. Anyway, I think your edits added a lot of good information to the article and it is now much better then it was. I might also do some editing on it if I can find the time. Well, bye for now then. --Hibernian (talk) 04:01, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

List of massacres[edit]

Hi Aridd

I noticed your edit there. The article is currently undergoing major debate as to its nature, organisation, and scope. While there was nothing at all wrong with your edit, it would be great if you could join the discussion at Talk:List of massacres rather than making any more. I appreciate your cooperation in this matter. --John (talk) 06:06, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Climbing[edit]

I thought that it praised the activists, the version i created discribes the events without giving them positive virtues like "daring". Its not the most POV thing ever on wikipedia but it is little "drip by drip" POV bits that leads an article to have an unencyclopedic tone. (Hypnosadist) 17:14, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Could we work together?[edit]

hello, Aridd, thank you for the article on Jin Jing. Could we work together and push this article on Jin Jing to the 'Did you know...' on the Main Page? If we can do it, many people will have chance to read this article. It's cool, isn't it?--Supportjinjing (talk) 20:04, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks! Wikipedia:Did_you_know give some rules. We need to finish that article firstly. I have checked the Chinese news. There is no significant point missing in the article. But my English is not very good. Please help me improve the language in that article. And we need to improve the format of the article, such as the infobox and references. Then we can submit this article to T:TDYK. The question could be '[Jin Jing|Who] is called the "Smiling Angel in Wheelchair" by Chinese people?'--Supportjinjing (talk) 22:55, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Some comments from an admin:

OK, a few things jump out at me when I read Jin Jing. Firstly, the bits on her being single, her hobbies and her heroes aren't really appropriate. Secondly, the career section is a bit awkward - can you reword it, so that the sentence structure isn't always the same? Also, these single-sentence paragraphs should be combined into longer paragraphs. Next, it's still a bit short. Can you expand it with some further information about her from the sources, not just about the torch incident? Image:Violentolympicprotestor.jpg needs a fair-use rationale, even with my limited knowledge of these matters.

My final comment is that the article must be written from a neutral point of view - it shouldn't be written to praise her or her actions, just to report on her life and notable achievements. With that in mind, I am worried that your username is too closely connected to "supporting Jin Jing". Have a look at the username policy and consider getting it changed to something more neutral. But the article has promise, and with a bit of work I'm sure you can have a good shot at getting it mentioned on the front page. Regards, BencherliteTalk 23:48, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

I'm changing my username to jingandteller.

Could you please help me improve the language of that article? Thank you very much!--Supportjinjing (talk) 00:07, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, one more thing to trouble you. Could you please update the French version later on? If possible, we can also push the French version to the main page of French wikipedia. Thanks a lot!--Supportjinjing (talk) 00:10, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

I have submitted the article to Template_talk:Did_you_know#Articles_created.2Fexpanded_on_April_11. Thanks!--Jingandteller (talk) 16:26, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your reply. I understand. I also have many things to do in the daily life, just as you. Don't worry. If we have time, we can try to improve that article. I'm a fan of Jin Jing and I'm pro-China. But I understand the policy of wikipedia and I respect the opinion of other people. I know you have your own opinion. I won't write the article as for fans. I just want to show a real picture of that young girl to the people. Even someone doesn't like her, I will also show such criticism in the article in public. I want a NPOV article on her. That's the way I fan her. Thank you for your work on this article! Let's work together.--Jingandteller (talk) 17:51, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your work! The section of torch relay needs to be improved. There are several sentences talking about the attack by protesters. I think that part needs to be smoothed. Thanks again!--Jingandteller (talk) 13:53, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

Very good idea! I support your sentence "...that a young Paralympic athlete, Jin Jing, was called an angel by Chinese netizens and the Chinese media?". Thank you! I will post your suggestion to DYK. You can also post your opinion to DYK whenever you want. Thanks again!--Jingandteller (talk) 08:08, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

2008 Summer Olympics torch relay[edit]

Some guy named User talk:Huaiwei keeps fusing the international and mainland China tours, to make sure Hong Kong and Macau are listed as part of mainland China; and renaming them into Hong Kong, China and Macau, China. Furthermore it makes the article totally unreadable, if this long list is included. Could you revert the edits made by User talk:Huaiwei, since I can't change the article (it's semi-protected and I don't have permission). Lafcadio Wluiki (talk) 22:55, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

Not sure which bits were "yours" or which elements you refer to. It looks like we were both editing at the same time because I certainly did not want or mean to touch any other parts. I certainly did meant to remove "steal" as technically (legally 'by intent') it is inaccurate and read a little too hysterical to qualify as "encyclopaediac". Will have a look at it later ... Thanks. --Lucyintheskywithdada (talk) 15:30, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
Yup, that certainly was not my intent. There was an error message. The wiki went down for maintenance for a short while whilst I was looking at it. No offence intended. Folks need to tone their language down. Sorry. --Lucyintheskywithdada (talk) 16:11, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

{{Vanuatu-stub}}[edit]

Hi - I see you have recently created one or more new stub types. As it states at Wikipedia:Stub, at the top of most stub categories, and in many other places on Wikipedia, it is recommended that new stub types are proposed prior to creation at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals. This is partly in order to check whether the new stub type is already covered by existing stub types, whether it is named according to stub naming guidelines, whether it is otherwise correctly formatted, whether it reaches the standard threshold for creation of a new stub type, and whether it crosses existing stub type hierarchies, and partly so that those who regularly deal with stub articles know what stub types are likely to need re-sorting soon. Your new stub type is currently listed at WP:WSS/D - please feel free to make any comments there as to any rationale for this stub type. And please, in future, consider proposing new stub types first! Grutness...wha? 02:05, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Image:Ndira.JPG[edit]

A tag has been placed on Image:Ndira.JPG requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free image with a clearly invalid licensing tag; or it otherwise fails some part of the non-free content criteria.

If you can find a valid tag that expresses why the image can be used under the fair use guidelines, please replace the current tag with that tag. If no such tag exists, please add the {{non-free fair use in|article name that the image is used in}} tag, along with a brief explanation of why this constitutes fair use of the image. If the image has been deleted, you can re-upload it, but please ensure you place the correct tag on it.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:Image:Ndira.JPG|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. License tagging for Image:The National PNG.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:The National PNG.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 11:06, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Mohsen 1248, you don't seem to understand how Wikipedia works. The information you have removed and/or altered was properly sourced. All information included in the article comes explicitly from Xinhua. Please do not remove or alter it without providing sources that dispute or contradict it. Xinhua says explicitly that the Nicaraguan men's volleyball team will compete in Beijing, even specifying that it will face Italy. Xinhua also says that Martinez is an archer. Xinhua is a reputable source. That doesn't mean it can't be wrong, but if you know it's wrong, you need to provide sources saying so. Thank you, and if you have further questions about Wikipedia editing policy, please let me know. (I'll also thank you in advance for staying cool and polite.) Before replying, please read this. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Knol on Wikipedia.JPG)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Knol on Wikipedia.JPG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:22, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice[edit]

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

Vanuatu[edit]

A quick look through English language media will show that Vanuatuan is used to describe things of or related to Vanuatu - Vanuatuan president: China doing wonderful job in preparing for Olympics , whilst Ni-Vanuatu appears to be reserved for the people - [2]. Britannica also uses Vanuatuan,[3] to describe things related to the country, reserving Ni Vanuatu only for the ethinc group.[4]. I guess a similar situation would be using the term Icelander for the population and Icelandic for things related to the country. пﮟოьεԻ 57 10:30, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

for your nice welcome. In fact, I've been following the Olympic project page and the discussion already. Signed up there now. Oh, good luck with your thesis. Olympian77 (talk) 20:15, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

Have you seen the Historical Paralympic Database at www.paralympic.org/release/Main_Sections_Menu/Sports/Results/paralympics_search_form.html? The numbers there would make for a rather long page as, e.g., there are 245 swimmers listed with 3 or more gold medals. However, there are some traps. It seems to be a purely automatic computation that has Beatrice Hess at 15-4-0 while her actual 20-5-0 record is well established. I'm guessing this is because she is identical with "Beatrice Pierre" who is also listed there at 5-1-0 (I found no confirmation for this, though). Olympian77 (talk) 16:44, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

{{Niue-stub}}[edit]

Hi - I see you have recently created one or more new stub types. As it states at Wikipedia:Stub, at the top of most stub categories, and in many other places on Wikipedia, it is recommended that new stub types are proposed prior to creation at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals, in order to check whether the new stub type is already covered by existing stub types, whether it is named according to stub naming guidelines, whether it is otherwise correctly formatted, whether it reaches the standard threshold for creation of a new stub type, and whether it crosses existing stub type hierarchies. Your new stub type is currently listed at WP:WSS/D - please feel free to make any comments there as to any rationale for this stub type. And please, in future, consider proposing new stub types first! Grutness...wha? 00:43, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

"confined to a wheelchair"[edit]

Thanks for your message on my talk page.

It's not at all objectively accurate to use the phrase "confined to a wheelchair". A wheelchair liberates; it does not confine. The wheelchair allows the user movement that he or she would not otherwise have. I don't see anything wrong with the phrase "uses a wheelchair", which is indeed more objectively accurate. New Zealand head of State in 1800[edit]

Thanks for your message. I did rethink whether it was appropriate and decided that it was, just. Although the whole question of the legality of "claiming" territory and colonisation is questionable I went with keeping the head of state and governor for a couple of reasons: 1. Hobson was appointed Lietenant-Governor in of New Zealand in 1839 and there was no change in the status of New Zealand (as part of the colony of New South Wales) that I know of, since 1788. 2. Governor King's ‘Government and General Order’ of 1805, to give New Zealanders and Pacific Islanders some of the civil rights of British subjects would surely not have been made unless he considered New Zealand (and the relevant Pacific Islands) part of the territory of which he was governor.

The whole question could be put to Wikipedia:WikiProject New Zealand. I'd be happy to go with whatever the consensus is there.

btw, thanks for the Ruatara page, that's one less on my, very long, to-do list!

General Voters Party (Fiji)[edit]

Hi there! I've just checked my talk page for the first time in quite a while, and see that you left a query about a month back about Fiji's General Voters Party. To answer your question : you probably know as much as I do, and I probably know as much as anybody does. Since the military takeover a couple of years ago, politics has been in a state of flux. The GVP officially merged with the United General Party to form the United Peoples Party, but some dissenters decided to relaunch a party under the old GVP banner. Whether they have officially re-registered it, I have no idea. Such scenarios are not uncommon in Fiji. Before the last election, a bizarre process unfolded, in which one party (I'll call it Party A) merged with another (Party B) to form a third party (Party C). Somebody then reregistered Party B. Party C then merged into it and dissolved itself. Party B then merged into Party A. What the purpose all that convoluted manoeuvring served is anybody's guess.

Sorry I can't give you much information. Because of work commitments, I've been far less active on Wikipedia in recent months. I haven't lost interest, but just don't have much time, so I've regretfully been unable to keep my finger on Fiji's pulse to the same extent as before. Ownership of articles[edit]

Please do not assume ownership of articles such as Fiji-Tonga relations. If you aren't willing to allow your contributions to be edited extensively or be redistributed by others, please do not submit them. Thank you. LibStar (talk) 09:48, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

I'm not "assuming ownership". Editors have contributed to a number of the articles I've started, and I value their useful contributions. This is a collaborative encyclopedia. I have never said, implied or considered that any article I've started was my "property", and I challenge you to prove otherwise. You, on the other hand, are acting with significant bad faith, making groundless assumptions and accusations against me. This isn't the first; you also implied, on no basis whatsoever, that I was trying to glorify a dictator. I don't even know why you're saying that I'm "assuming ownership". Your tone is accusatory, inflammatory, and derives from unsubstantiated and incorrect impressions. Stop flinging out absurd, bad faith accusations. Aridd (talk) 10:01, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
I was only saying that the presentation of the description of the Commodore's arrival by the journalist sounded like glorification. You definitely fit Wikipedia:OWN#Comments which I've encountered before. Ownership is not a bad faith issue. LibStar (talk) 10:05, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
And you were wrong to view it as glorification, as I hope I've now successfully explained. Not on my part, or on the part of the Fiji Times. As for my commenting on your edits to the article: When you make mistakes, or when you make questionable edits, the fact that I started the article shouldn't disqualify me from pointing out errors, ambiguities or other questionable changes made by subequent editors. You are assuming bad faith: You consistently try to interpret my motivations in a negative light. Seriously, stop it. Try to consider, at least for a moment, that I might actually be trying to behave objectively and to do what seems best for the encyclopedia. Aridd (talk) 10:44, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
you equally assumed bad faith about me. even the wording above makes me sound like I'm totally at fault for what I perceive as not a neutral article. I don't deny you're trying to improve Wikipedia but because we work by consensus, you need to use at least hear what other people say, even if you don't agree. Simply reverting my edits without discussing on talk page could be considered bad faith. LibStar (talk) 10:46, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
interesting you even say this stuff with a condescending tone like "seriously, stop it" "try to consider, at least for a moment" when I am not here to vandalise and have spent considerable time in the last few hours searching and trying to improve the article. no good faith? LibStar (talk) 10:53, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
I know you're not here to vandalise, and I've already thanked you for your useful contributions. You're still jumping to negative conclusions, though, when you say that I don't "hear what other people say, even if [I] don't agree". I do, which is why I've discussed the issues at hand. You're wrong in that assumption too, as I've demonstrated. As for deleting content without discussing it, you did that first. I apologise for sounding grumpy; that's because I am. I haven't got the time right now to wade through this. I'm doing so because I'm concerned about the quality of the article. I may not have behaved in a perfect manner, for which I'm sorry, but I do want you to stop constantly leaping to baseless assumptions about my motivations, in an unjustifiable attempt to make me look non-neutral, or some such nonsense. (Incidentally, I notice that you're gloating on your user page about having deleted a "freaky" article I wrote. Not something that's going to make me feel particularly happy about your behaviour, either. Franco-Nauruan relations may not be particularly notable, but they're not "freaky". People's admitted ignorance of Nauru is hardly my responsability.) That said, thank you for your work on the article. I hope we can improve it together, without sniping at each other's work. Aridd (talk) 11:05, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
Apology accepted. on the same token, I apologise if I've got you annoyed. as for Nauru, unfortunately due to its extremely limited appearance in the world media, it's always going to have trouble getting Wiki related articles. I do we agree we can work together, I think France-Tonga is already much better than 24 hours ago. Ralph Regenvanu[edit]

Hi, I see that you are on a WikiBreak, but I will go ahead and leave this here for you when you get back. I've reviewed this article for a reassessment per your request. What follows is a short review.

  • The article could use a longer lead section, if possible.
  • You should put an infobox in the article.
  • The article is very well referenced with a good use of inline citations where appropriate.
  • I could find no major grammar or spelling concerns.
  • Broad in scope, but doesn't leave serious researchers wanting for too much.
  • If you can, find some images to add to the article (Requirement number 6 on the GA criteria list).
  • In summation, passes all of the requirements for "B" class except requirement 5. Let me know when you put an infobox in the article and I'll change to assessment to "B" class.

I hope that this was somewhat helpful to you, if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to drop me a note on my talk page. Best, t'shaélchat 01:03, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

China Other Country Locator Maps[edit]

I came across the above on the China-Niue relations article and thought I would put my view that the map is a bit unfair in totally treating the Taiwan area as not part of China....The fairest way to handle the matter would be to have Taiwan in a slightly different matter....Whatever one's views - many countries in the world and the UN expressly recognise PRC sovereignty over Taiwan, even if that soevereignty is not "functional" so to speak....Well, I won't edit war over the point but thought if you have the technical competence to address this (which I don't), you might update the template accordingly - whenever you return to WP. I have seen other templates that followed the kind of policy I mention here. Regards. Staighre (talk) 21:48, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
