Pokéthon was a Pokémon-themed sub-event that took place during Otakuthon, the largest anime convention in Quebec, in 2014. It was the first series of Pokémon-themed fan-run events in Canada, and took place over the course of the convention. "Pokéthon" is a portmanteau of "Pokémon" and "marathon."

Programming[edit]

Pokéthon included a series of events run by a number of Otakuthon departments and other organizations. This included:

  • Panels: Pokéthon included a series of six panels on a variety of subjects, including the Pokémon video games, animé, and culture.
  • The Montreal Pokémon League: A fan-run group who offer prizes for being defeated in Pokémon battles. This was the League's first-ever event, created with the help of Pokéthon organizers, aiding in their eventual success.
  • Video Game Tournament: A single-elimination tournament played on Pokémon X and Y.
  • Cosplay Photo Shoot: All attendees dressed in Pokémon cosplay were invited to a large outdoor photo shoot.
  • Trivia Contest: A knowledge-testing challenge hosted by the Otakuthon Contest department.
  • Trading Card Game Tournament: A Pokémon Trading Card Game tournament hosted by Game Keeper.
