Adding threat classificaitons[edit]

Hi there! I see you are working on adding DOC threat classification rankings. I have just started editing Wikipedia, focusing on native freshwater fishes. Tonight I discovered how to add IUCN rankings to the sidebar and have added a few, but now I see it is possible to do the DOC ones there instead. I want to know more about the comparison between IUCN and DOC rankings. I guess the DOC ranking is most identifiable and quoted in NZ? StellaMcQ (talk) 10:02, 8 August 2015 (UTC)

Ways to improve Opacuincola dulcinella[edit]

Hi, I'm Musa Raza. Ambrosia10, thanks for creating Opacuincola dulcinella!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. I've added orphan tag.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse. Musa Talk  07:22, 1 September 2015 (UTC)

ArbCom elections are now open![edit]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. On images and attribution in captions.[edit]

Hello! Thanks for your many contributions as well as your images uploaded to Commons. I've noticed you adding external links, as well as CC-licenses, to the captions of images you've added to Wikipedia. This is unwarranted, per WP:CREDITS, and WP:EL (and is also often unsightly and unnecessarily wordy: see Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Captions). Full author, source, and license should of course be on the file description page, but captions should focus on largely subject (what is illustrated), not metadata. I notice you have Creative Commons Best practices for attribution linked on your Userpage, and may be striving to abide by such recommendations, but that is a separate Wiki, and as such is external, secondary, and largely irrelevant, to Wikipedia guidelines, policies, and best practices. Note also that images in infoboxes or taxoboxes should not be in thumbnail form: rather, the file name and caption (if needed), are entered separately in different fields. Lastly, purely descriptive text about an image (e.g. "a woman standing in a field") should not be in the caption, but can be included in Alternative text fields, e.g. to assist visually impaired readers that would not otherwise get the visual information. All the best! --Animalparty! (talk) 06:25, 26 December 2015 (UTC)

Have you seen Ambrosia10's explanation, at for example Talk:Hyphalus wisei?-gadfium 07:59, 26 December 2015 (UTC)
This is the message I left in reply on User:Animalpartys talk page -

Thanks for your comment on my talk page. I appreciate the advice and the help. However having previously had difficulties with copyright and licenses on the Wikipedia I'm now so risk adverse that I'm ensuring I comply completely with any copyright licenses and follow the advice given to ensure compliance unless advised legally otherwise. I've researched the ideal attribution and am following exactly the advice given by the Creative Commons website, the organisation that created the original licenses. As I understand it, this is the ideal attribution and is correct. I recognise that it may not be elegant but I'm confident I'm legally complying with both copyright and the CC BY 4.0 license by attributing the images this way. I'm following this advice in the caption and have improved my citation techniques in line with advice from other Wikipedia editors. Obviously I'd be prepared to adapt my attribution techniques if given legal advice of the same by either Wikipedia or Creative Commons lawyers but until then will be following the exact advice given by the Creative Commons website as regards ideal attribution. As explained, I've been bitten by copyright infringement previously on Wikipedia and refuse to put myself into that situation again. I'd also like to point out the other reason why I attribute images as I do. Please read my message on Talk:Hyphalus wisei. However I do very much appreciate your point of view and your assistance. Ambrosia10 (talk) 08:09, 26 December 2015 (UTC)

Very worthy, but I think it would be better to attempt to change the wikipedia policy/guideline on photo attribution, rather than adding such attributions - either all creative commons photos need to be attributed this way (as per creative commons guidelines?) or none (as per wikipedia guidelines). If creative commons, or media providers have a problem with the way wikipedia attributes images (at present attribution is on the image's individual wiki page), then that is a huge issue that needs to be addressed directly. --Tony Wills (talk) 09:24, 8 March 2016 (UTC)

"Women are everywhere"[edit]

Hi Ambrosia10. I'm an editor (not very active till now) of the Italian Wikipedia, where the gender gap is a real issue. I'm trying to participate to an IEG with the project "Women are everywhere". You will find the draft at this link https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:IEG/Women_are_everywhere It would be great if you could have a look at it. I need any kind of suggestion or advice to improve it. Support or endorsement would be fantastic. Many thanks, --Kenzia (talk) 17:43, 9 April 2016 (UTC)

Hi Ambrosia10, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the "autopatrolled" permission to your account, as you have created numerous, valid articles. This feature will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to reduce the workload on new page patrollers. For more information on the patroller right, see Wikipedia:Autopatrolled. Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! Widr (talk) 20:25, 20 April 2016 (UTC)

Linking to an author of a citation[edit]

Hi, please note that the value of author parameters in a cite/citation template should never contain a wikilink (it pollutes the hidden data that can be extracted by various reference tools). Instead use the "author link" parameters. See Template:Citation#Authors. Peter coxhead (talk) 08:08, 17 June 2016 (UTC)
