Djarragun College is situated on the Bruce Highway just north of Gordonvale. The College was set up expressly for the delivery of excellent educational programmes to Indigenous Australians. The College promotes excellence in education with a strong emphasis on values education which is underpinned by Christian values. Currently our students come from the Torres Strait Islands, Cape York communities, Cairns, Yarrabah, Gordonvale, Aloomba and surrounding suburbs. The College is an independent school controlled by a Board of Directors. The Anglican diocese of North Queensland and the Chairman of the Board are members of the company limited by guarantee. The College has its own constitution which sets the parameters from which the College operates.

History

Djarragun College was formed when the Anglican Dioceses of Brisbane and Cairns took over the dysfunctional Emmanuel College in 2001. Since then, the College has grown from 60 students to around 550.

Sports Academy

The Djarragun Sports Academy operates within Djarragun College and caters for students in Grades 8 – 12. It currently has 170 students enrolled and aims to engage students in their education through the vehicle of sport. The Academy has 6 focus sports that include – AFL, Rugby League, Rugby Union, Basketball, Soccer and Volleyball and also has secondary sports such as Touch, Athletics and Netball. It's not all about being an excellent sportsperson; the Academy looks for students who are committed, show the right attitude, are well behaved and are dedicated to their education.
