Teagan Clive (born c. 1959) is an American writer, bodybuilder and film and television actress.

Clive writes articles for periodicals, including Iron Man Magazine and Muscle & Fitness, and has since the 1980s. She wrote screenplays which were produced for the television series Conan: The Adventurer and Acapulco H.E.A.T.

Early life[edit]

Clive was abandoned as a child, and was cared for by a series of institutions and foster homes.[1] In public school and college she pursued athletic curricula including baseball and varsity volleyball.

Early career[edit]

Early training[edit]

In 1983, Clive began training with Don Ross at the Olympic Health Club in Oakland, California, where she told him, "I want to be the Arnold Schwarzenegger of female bodybuilding."[2] In this this she was partially successful, earning the nickname "The Female Arnold" and achieving a muscularity described as "state of art"[3] in the early 1980s. She also drew the attention of Schwarzenegger himself.

Friendship with Schwarzenegger[edit]

Arnold Schwarzenegger first encountered Clive while training at the Olympia in 1984. Impressed with her dedication to bodybuilding, he literally told her that she "had to be in pictures".[4] A friendship began between them which lasts to this day.

Thwarted opportunities[edit]

Women's Physique World reported that the backstage politics of the event involved Clive being perceived by the organizers as "a woman... who was the most muscular ever" and therefore a threat to lead competitor Cory Everson.[3] In any case, Clive has never officially entered a bodybuilding competition.

At the time they met, Schwarzenegger arranged for Clive to audition for Dino De Laurentiis who was then in Beverly Hills casting for Red Sonja. Clive was flown to Rome for additional screen tests, early reports indicating that her part was being expanded,[2] and that she was to portray Sonja's guardian goddess. In the final version of the film, however, the goddess is portrayed by another actress' voice over and a soft blur.

Acting career[edit]

Despite these setbacks, Clive's acting career got under way with her television debut as the female bodybuilder in "California Girls", the David Lee Roth music video, which premiered on MTV at 9 PM Pacific Time, New Year's Eve, December 31, 1984.[5] She also appeared at the live televised MTV party that night, acting as his bodyguard.[5]
