Tribal Mobilization or Tribal Fighters are an Iraqi Sunni tribal group composed of members of tribes to fight against the Islamic State,[1] There is another group sometimes called Tribal Mobilization, but formerly known as the National Mobilization (currently Nineveh Guard) associated with Atheel al-Nujaifi.[2][3]

In 2017, Thamer Al-Tamimi, Deputy Chief of the Tribal Mobilization, stated in an interview with Al-Hadath TV that the Sunni leaders in Iraq had despaired of the Arab states and concludedthat relying on these states would not benefit the Sunnis in Iraq, especially since some of these states were using the Sunnis in Iraq as a tool in their struggle for influence in the region with Iran. He confirmed that the Tribal Mobilization had contacted a number of Gulf countries to request support and assistance in confronting the Islamic State, but they did not respond and did not pay any attention, according to him.[4][5]

US bombing allegations[edit]

In October 2016, Iraqi officials announced the killing of 21 Tribal Mobilization Forces during a US bombing south of Mosul.[6]
