The Dancing Clown is an 1894 American black-and-white short silent film directed by William Kennedy Dickson and William Heise with Heise as the cinematographer. It depicts clown Johnny Purvis dancing, jumping up and down.[1][2]

The Dancing Clown was filmed at Thomas Edison's Black Maria studio in West Orange, New Jersey on April 27, 1894, and is known to be one of the earliest clown films known to exist. In 2005, Kino Video included the film in the DVD release of Edison: The Invention of the Movies. In 2016, the film made a brief appearance in an episode of the Amazing World of Gumball. The film has a runtime of 45 seconds.
