problems[edit]

So... first off, many of these (all?) are not Star "original" programs... they are Hulu originals later shown on Star. The other major issues this creates is that, for instance, there's Helstrom listed as "(2021)" but Helstrom was a 2020 series (on Hulu). Same with Love, Victor, which is not "(since 2021)"—it was first released in 2020 (again, on Hulu). —Joeyconnick (talk) 01:48, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It appears to be following the precedent of the Netflix original programming template, which includes shows originally aired on other networks/streaming services that have been picked up by Netflix (here, Star) to be produced by them. E.g. Black Mirror is deemed Netflix original programming even though it was on Channel 4 for two seasons and a movie beforehand. And that is why "since" is used for some dates - it has only been Star original since that year, not for its entire run. There are no problems. Kingsif (talk) 02:31, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Black Mirror is an entirely different case, in that Netflix actually took over its production, as opposed to simply slapping a label on it when it received rights to stream it. For instance, Riverdale is not listed in Template:Netflix original current series even though Netflix definitely slaps its "Netflix Original" label on it if you are watching it via their service. So there are definitely problems here because, again, this entire template gives the impression that Star is creating/producing these series, and that they are therefore debuting in different years, as opposed to merely airing them. —Joeyconnick (talk) 17:47, 10 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think it is appropriate to list exclusive international distribution of American TV series as "Star original programming" because the primary networks are American TV networks, not Star as Star is a just a secondary network. We don't call the List of Netflix exclusive international distribution programming as Netflix originals nor put them on the template. Another example is List of Hulu original programming#Exclusive international television distribution, we do not called them as Hulu originals nor put them on the template. I don't see how this template should be any different than most original programming templates. This template should only include the TV series that Star actually produced, not "exclusive distribution" TV series. — YoungForever(talk) 21:27, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I just saw this on a few articles where this is very inappropriate. "Original programming" means what the words say, that it is an original program for a specific network / streaming service. An "exclusive distribution" is meaningless. Every country in the world can have an exclusive distribution in their market. It seems the consensus on this talk page was to remove them so not sure how a year later it is still here. Gonnym (talk) 16:52, 15 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
