Template problems[edit]

  1. Why does "contemporary reporting" link to WP:NOTNEWS when that page doesn't have anything to say about using contemporary news reports as sources?
  2. Why are we including the line about lasting impact?
    • This is a driveby tagging template, not a warning that the article may be nominated for deletion etc. in the near future. Why wouldn't be encourage editors to use Template:Notability, which acts as a more explicit warning shot, or just nominate the article for deletion instead?
    • Articles can be over-reliant on reactionary news reports and still meet WP:NEVENTS, WP:LASTING, etc. WP:EVENTCRIT #2 implies that reactionary news reports can be enough to establish notability on their own, although that might be a high bar to clear. Notability is a property inherent to a topic; it does not lose notability because the article's quality is poor.
  3. How does this not cover the same ground as Template:Primary sources?
  4. Why was this created and is now being used on the basis of a few editors at the end of this discussion? This template's conceptual idea and wording could use wider discussion and consensus at a village pump or similar. Ed [talk] [OMT] 05:44, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
