    • The article was expanded and nominated today (21 April 2024).
    • The article has been expanded more than fivefold (more like 20x).
    • The article is well sourced. I did one spot check and the reference checked out.
    • The article is written in a neutral and non-promotional tone.
    • Earwig did not pick up anything.
    • QPQ provided.
    • The hook has the right length and is interesting. The part of the hook on him being hired and the quote itself is well sourced. However, I struggle a bit with the part on him being "a critic of the spoils system". I think you rely here on Smith 1981 (pp. 82–83). I see that he criticized particulars of the spoils system there. But whether this elevates him to an outright critic of the system I am unsure. Maybe a weaker statement like "[...] who had criticized the political patronage system earlier [...]" would be more reflective of the source? What do you think?
    • Thank you for your great work Generalissima! I will approve this nomination if this one quibble is addressed. WatkynBassett (talk) 18:57, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • @WatkynBassett: Fair point! Would something along the lines of "... that after criticizing the political patronage system, John Silva Meehan was hired as Librarian of Congress through "purely an act of political patronage"?" work? Generalissima (talk) (it/she) 19:05, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Would you be able to clarify what is being stated in the second sentence of the "Biota" section? the middle portion regarding the 550ma seems to be out of place as currently written.--Kevmin § 21:44, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! I agree it wasn't the clearest way to word it. The Nama Assemblage is often defined chronologically (as the fauna from ~550 to ~539 million years ago, or from the first appearance of Cloudina to the first appearance of Treptichnus), but sometimes on the basis of fauna, with holdover fauna from the previous epochs not being considered part of it, with the chronological definition then called "Terminal Ediacaran biozone". It was mostly to explain why some of the fauna isn't always considered Nama, but that could be further expanded instead in the "Definition" section. I have plans for further expansion of the article (currently in User:Chaotic Enby/sandbox), and I will be happy to reorganize the article and expand it further if needed. • I personally think the first hook is great. It certainly got my attention. The article itself is long, was moved to the mainspace just today, is based on reliable sources, and looks fully complete. My only potential concern is that the hook doesn't explicitly state that it was struck down in court, but I think that can probably be inferred as is. Pac-Man PHD (talk) 08:27, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Though Earwig found likely copyvio, it's basing that off of a direct quote from the contents of the proposal, an open and free document that is properly attributed to, so it shouldn't be a violation. I think this is all in order. Still, felt it should be mentioned in case the author wants to paraphrase the contents of the proposal or if an administrator takes issue with it. Pac-Man PHD (talk) 08:46, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    • Yeah as the author I generally don't think quoting the direct ballot title of the proposal is a problem (and imo paraphrasing would be less informative to our readers than seeing what voters saw). Elli (talk | contribs) 09:09, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

"Kirchick cites the different government reactions as a reason why during the 1980s the rate of HIV infection in the Great Britain was just 10 percent of that in the United States" This sentence may still need work. I can't see the full context or what source he cites, but I looked it up and ran the numbers for 1989, at which point the number of infections was 20 times larger in the US which also has 6x greater population. That does point to a substantial difference but doesn't support Kirchick's argument. I would prefer to cite epidemiologists for claims about the causes of different prevalence rates.
Stand-alone "defense" and "criticism" is typically integrated into one reception section, maybe put the defense last since the criticism section sums up the overall view.
"In 2015, following the release of the short film When AIDS Was Funny, renewed criticism from progressive media ..." I don't see where the sources discuss progressive media. If they are being cited as examples of progressive media, this paragraph likely falls foul of WP:NOR (and UNDUE).
"However, it is controversial whether Reagan himself could be considered homophobic, or if his personal views on homosexuality affected his AIDS response." part 1 is a false dichotomy, part 2 is unprovable (and I'm not seeing anywhere the opposite argument is made). The ultimate controversy/criticism is not about what Reagan believed but what he did, the article should reflect the bulk of the legacy section.
"Timeline of the Reagan administration's AIDS response" If you keep this section everything needs an inline citation. (t · c) buidhe 17:22, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Kirchick's source for the one-tenth figure is The Age of Reagan by Wilentz, I don't have access to this book though. The other issues have been addressed. 🌸wasianpower🌸 (talkcontribs) 19:04, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
For now I've gone ahead and changed the 10 percent figure to a more general figure that is still in line with what Kirchick wrote, and also in line with your analysis. 🌸wasianpower🌸 (talkcontribs) 12:31, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The content of the hook is referenced in the article and a citation is appended immediately after where it appears. • The article was created yesterday, so is new enough. It is much more than long enough and properly uses in-line citations. AGF on proper paraphrasing of the offline sources was used. Both hooks are interesting and cited in-line, with the first one being better I think (though perhaps need some commas?). The only thing holding up this review, Alessandro57, is that the QPQ hasn't been done yet. SilverserenC 21:37, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • I see that you're still editing, Alessandro57. Were you planning on doing a QPQ review or is this nomination abandoned? SilverserenC 23:46, 1 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • No worries, of course I am planning a QPQ. I am still recovering from last month's two QPQ per hook ... ;-) Cheers, Alex2006 (talk) 03:16, 2 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Having read the article, I'd suggest additional hook proposals be proposed because the currently-proposed hook isn't really that interesting by itself. There's no shortage about possible hooks here, with the Production section itself being full of possible material. One possible hook could be how the original choice for cinematographer had to back out due to his wife's childbirth, but there are also other possible options. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 12:33, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Narutolovehinata5: Hi Narutolovehinata5, thanks for reviewing the article! I actually think quite the opposite. I chose the current proposed hook because Chang Chen is a veteran actor with over 40 years of experience and has participated in numerous Hollywood projects, but this is his very first time serving as a producer. On the other hand, the cinematographers weren't really big names that would arouse anyone's interest, and dropping out of a film project sounds too common and trivial. While writing the article, I actually thought of two potential hooks (didn't include them initially as I thought the current one was better):
1. ...that the 2024 romance film 18×2 Beyond Youthful Days was purposefully filmed in Japan during March, taking advantage of the country's seasonal change to capture both snowfalls and cherry blossoms in the same month?
2. ...that Greg Hsu took a hiatus from filming the 2024 romance film 18×2 Beyond Youthful Days to attend the 59th Baeksang Arts Awards but returned to the set the very next day?
What do you think?—Prince of EreborThe Book of Mazarbul 12:51, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Prince of Erebor: The main concern I have about the original hook is that if the reader wasn't familiar with Chen, the significance of the information wouldn't be as obvious. He isn't a household name like say Jackie Chan. Having said that, I like the first option. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 12:55, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Narutolovehinata5: Right, that's absolutely true. I included a description of him starring in Dune for the exact same reason. I have updated with the new hook.
Btw, I just took a look at your profile page and realized that you are the one who wrote LiSA and Attack on Titan into good articles. I am genuinely impressed by your contributions!!—Prince of EreborThe Book of Mazarbul 13:08, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Apologies for the delay in responding! I don't see the new/revised hook here so maybe you can propose it below this comment? Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 00:01, 2 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Narutolovehinata5: Huh? I don't understand. The current hook above "...that the 2024 film 18×2 Beyond Youthful Days was purposefully filmed in Japan during March, leveraging the country's seasonal change to capture both snowfalls and cherry blossoms in the same month?" is the revised hook. It is 197 characters long. Is there a bug or something?
The nomination has been pending for nearly a week, and there are no further improvements or revisions needed. As I have exams coming up next week and am becoming busier, would you mind expediting the review process a bit? Thank you!!—Prince of EreborThe Book of Mazarbul 05:02, 2 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That is weird. When I copy-pasted the hook the one I copypasted was over 200 characters excluding the dots at the start. I must have copied from an old revision of the page. in any case, 197 characters, while acceptable, is still on the long side and I wonder if it could be shortened further since that length is not ideal. If not, I'll accept it as is. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 05:42, 2 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Narutolovehinata5: Right! I removed the mention of Japan's seasonal change. Now it is trimmed to 151 characters. Please check!—Prince of EreborThe Book of Mazarbul 07:36, 2 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thanks! The article is new enough and free from close paraphrasing. The current hook is interesting and cited inline; it is cited to a Taiwanese source so AGF on the reliability, but the provided English translation and a Google Translate translation check out. A QPQ has been done. There's only a minor issue in that I would suggest including a sentence or two about reception in the lede for completeness sake, but as this isn't a GA that isn't really something that should prevent approval, it's just a suggestion. • What a ride that article was. QPQ not needed. Earwig has a high score for copyvio detection, but that's entirely due to Messi's paragraph-long statement in the "Departure and Japan trip" section, which has an inline citation to the flagged source. Referencing is adequate and length/newness criteria fulfilled. Hook is definitely interesting and cited in source, not cited inline as exact phrasing but separately so. Good to go. • New enough, long enough, and properly sourced. No QPQ needed. Earwig found no problematic copied wording. Good-enough hook, but one must synthesize a couple pieces of information in the article to obtain it: the "largest township" part is at the end of the town section, dated to the early 19th century, while the "deserted" part is at the end of the "clearance" section. In fact both facts are adjacent in the "Maverick Guide to Scotland" source, with much tighter dating (largest in 1815; cleared between 1814 and 1818) and to avoid problems with WP:SYN the article would benefit from making them adjacent somewhere within it, footnoted to that source. Also, "deserted" is maybe a euphemism for what happened. —David Eppstein (talk) 18:14, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks David. What if the sentence in the Town section said "Before the clearance, it was the largest of 49 townships in Strathnaver"? That would would be consistent with the Maverick Guide guide source and not change up the current before-during-after structure. I could also change the sentence in the Clearance section to say "completely deserted by 1818" to avoid any ambiguity.
I think "deserted" is, from a NPOV, the end result of what happened, it describes what's left. You could say "forcibly depopulated" or something but I think "deserted" is clear enough and used in the sources. -- D'n'B-t -- 18:42, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
To me, "deserted" is an accurate and neutral description of the state of the place now, but not of the process by which it reached that state. How about
  • ALT1 ... that before its inhabitants were evicted, Rosal was the largest of 49 townships in Strathnaver?
but that would require a new reviewer as I can't both propose hooks and approve them. —David Eppstein (talk) 19:00, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'd be happy with that ALT1, (although with the link just saying "Rosal" for preference). -- D'n'B-t -- 19:08, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Article is new enough. It's long enough even after removing the large blocks of quoted text. Earwig did flag copyright violation, but this was due to the large blocks of quoted text which have been properly attributed and are within policy. No close paraphrasing or copyright found, and the article appears to be within policy in all other measures. Hook fact and length both check out for the original and Alt1 hooks.
