Early coaches[edit]

Bigredlance, BeanieFan11: I've been working on the article for Paul Rader (evangelist), who had a pretty busy college football career around the turn of the century. This article indicates that Rader was a player-coach for Central in 1900. BeanieFan11, you added "M. Smith" as the 1900 coach as well as other coaches for the years 1895 to 1902 based on page 89 of the 1903 Central College yearbook]. And Bigredlance, you later expanded the names for these early coaches. However, the 1903 yearbook lists the team's captains and managers for 1895 to 1902. A manager is not necessarily the same thing as a coach. The manager was often a student who was responsible for the administrative affairs of the team. Thoughts? That sounds right. Seems to be correct. A "manager" and a "coach" are definitely two different things, unless a news article stated something like, "Manager Smith took on coaching duties." Bigredlance (talk) 12:45, 16 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm... I had always imagined "coach" and "manager" as the same thing at the time, but I guess I'm wrong. BeanieFan11 (talk) 14:14, 16 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I went ahead and removed those early managers and added Rader. Jweiss11 (talk) 18:44, 16 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
