Rankyear param not working on older dates

The template does not appear to be properly linking to rankings pages for older years, i.e. before the Divisional split. Example. Ostealthy (talk) 16:08, 18 June 2018 (UTC)

Ok so I see now that the link was included in AP Poll link in the bottom. Why was it decided to remove the link from the Rank column? It's much more intuitive and useful there.Ostealthy (talk) 16:14, 18 June 2018 (UTC)

My guess would be that it's less surprising there, since piping it under the word "AP Poll" is less vague than piping it under "Rank"(?).

Default poll

@Frietjes: Why do we default to the Coaches' poll, when almost every use of this template I've seen specifies AP Poll? (Or do I need to look at more template uses? :-)) The AP is "the poll" used in sports media, and has been around longer... Hoof Hearted (talk) 20:37, 2 November 2018 (UTC)

Games with their own articles appear with gray backgrounds instead of green/red/orange

Are there any plans to change the template to properly recognize games with their own articles? A good example is Auburn's 2013 season, the Kick Six and Prayer at Jordan-Hare have no fill, making it look like they were vacated or something.

Non-breaking spaces

@Frietjes: Could the script be modified such that there are only non-breaking spaces for each field, either with {{nowrap}} or some other method? This would make tables less sloppy when there is a long team name (Mississippi State, South Carolina, etc.) that may run to the end of the field and creates two lines for one entry. ncg, hc tags

Is there a way to implement a different syntax for the <ncg> and <hc> tags, or allow them to be self-closed tags? I use syntax highlighting, and unclosed html-style tags mean the entire edit window get highlighted, which is kind of a pain to deal with. Conversion process for unnamed parameters to named parameters

@Frietjes: How hard would it be to create a process that could take instances of CFB schedule that use the "compact syntax" with unnamed parameters and convert them to instances of CFB schedule / CFB schedule entry with named parameters? Jweiss11, if you look at the code for Module:CFB schedule you will see a 'subst' function that calls convert_table. if I recall, that path does exactly what you are asking. you just change {{CFB schedule to {{subst:#invoke:CFB schedule|subst and use "show preview" to see the proposed conversion. I don't know how much this has been used, so please exercise caution and let me know if you find any bugs! 15:43, 1 May 2020 (UTC)

@Frietjes: been meaning to get back to you on this. I noticed a couple issues with the conversion process. First, see this example. Note how "No." gets duplicated in the rank column in the fifth row of the table. Second, see this example. Note there how the conversion process places the gamenanme field in between the stadium and cityst fields on the seventh row of the table. State abbreviations

The examples use a postal abbreviation for state names, in conflict with MOS:POSTABBR. OK to change these (AL,GA, PA, NJ, etc.) to the full names? There is no serious constraint on room in these examples, and usually not in real-life articles. Editors are allowed to use the abbreviations on a case-by-case basis where actually needed (with the use of {{abbr}} template), but it is not necessary to push abbreviation in this documentation. Forfeited games vs vacated games vs COVID No Contests

I happened to be looking at the 1994 Michigan State Spartans football team page today and noticed that their games were listed as "vacated" rather than "forfeited". A vacated game is expunged from a school's record, although its opponent's record is not changed, whereas a forfeit changes a school's original win or tie into a loss and its opponent's original loss or tie into a win. I came to the template page to see if there was an option to change the games from "vacated" to "forfeited", but there isn't, and the module is protected, so there's really no way for me personally to make this change, which is why I'm creating this new section in the talk page. Is there any way we can get this change implemented, or at least talk about it? It really does make a difference when someone is looking at the historical significance of the schedule.

This would also mean we would need to add another setting to the module for "win by forfeit". If you look at 1994 Indiana Hoosiers football team for example, the Michigan State game still shows as a loss, but it should technically be a win, even if it's a different color green from the regular wins. Handling of gamename = rivalry

@Frietjes:

We have a long-standing problem with unsourced "rivalry" articles. When these go through AfD with Delete outcome, admins use Wikipedia:XFDcloser to remove links to the deleted rivalry article. Unfortunately, that tool/process removes the link, but leaves the "rivalry" text intact.

Ex, XFDcloser changed gamename = [[NC State–South Carolina football rivalry|rivalry]] to | gamename = rivalry so the schedule table then rendered a plain text string of "rivalry".[1]

Obviously showing unlinked "rivalry" text post-AfD/Del is confusing to both readers and editors. I've known about this issue for quite a while and just resolved 400+ instances with AWB.

I don't see a clean solution. Perhaps you will.

• After AfD/XFDcloser, admins are unlikely to either know or choose to manually remove the gamename = rivalry text from up-to 200 articles (19XX-2021, both teams)
• It also breaks the utility of the Help:What links here feature to find instances
• In early 189X-190X years (1893 Vanderbilt Commodores football team), war years (1945 Washington Huskies football team), and more recently with conference championship games (2018 Oklahoma Sooners football team#Schedule), two teams can play more than once per season.
• FCS has the same issue due to playoff rematches.
• In those, the articles are mostly using gamename = rivalry for the second game, which avoids a second link per MOS:REPEATLINK and is reasonable

If you coded a link requirement into gamename = [[* in order to cause render, you'd fix the render-side of the XFDcloser issue, but prevent text render in "second game, same season" scenarios called out above. If that is the only option, preventing misleading "rivalry" text at the expense of a redundant, cosmetic string would still be a win.

UW Dawgs, my practice is when rivals play a second time in a given season, I omit the rival designation entirely for the second game. Accordingly, I removed the second unlinked instance of "rivalry" for Sewanee on 1893 Vanderbilt Commodores football team. I'm not sure if there's a way to adjust XFDcloser, but we can help matters by being vigilant and nipping spurious non-rivalries in the bud before they propagate. Yes, an unlinked (rivalry) isn't going to be of value, but other thing like "NCAA Division I-AA Quarterfinal" at 1988 Furman Paladins football team is valuable and belongs there. There's other stuff like "Battle for the Bones" at 2002 Memphis Tigers football team that's a remnant of a deleted (non-)rivalry article (cf. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/UAB–Memphis rivalry) and should be removed. Then there's "Shillelagh" at 1999 Purdue Boilermakers football team that should be replaced with a link to Notre Dame–Purdue football rivalry. It's a mixed bag that need to be combed through. Issue with tie rankings in unnamed parameter scheme

@Frietjes: there's a little bug here with the rank field under the unnamed parameters scheme. If a tie ranking (e.g. "T–7") is entered, the template drops the leading "No." when it renders. See 1981 Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens football team for an example. This doesn't seem to be an issue with named parameter scheme. Can this be fixed? Frietjes, we have a similar issue here with the named parameter scheme. See 1943 Colorado Buffaloes football team for an example. Since the only opponent ranking in the table is a tie ranking, the poll link in the footer does not display. Can you take a look at this when you have a chance? Template-protected edit request on 2 April 2023

In the module for this template (Module:CFB schedule), I want to make the module use local yesno = require('Module:Yesno') at the top (deleting the old customized "yesno" function at lines 18-27), and also replace the comparisons if args.[x] and (args.[x]):lower() ~= 'no' then that exist at lines 741 through 822 with if yesno(args.[x], true) then.

In addition, I want to remove the return '' statement within local function getdivision(y), since it is redundant (because every branch of the if statement above it has its own return statement, and said if statement has a else branch, so return '' will never trigger). {{Lemondoge|Talk|Contributions}} 22:30, 2 April 2023 (UTC)
