I'm not too familiar with sidebar development, so just wondering if anyone could point me towards the reason why we're using the Australian coat of arms and not the wordmark and logo of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice? Tim (Talk) 07:41, 30 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@ItsPugle:I just did the coat of arms inline with other Aus elections. I am happy for it to be changed to the voice logo albeit I'm am not to sure on the Non-free Content Policy for use of non-free images in templates (see rule #9). // GMH Melbourne (talk) 09:25, 30 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@GMH Melbourne Honestly, I'm not too sure myself. It might be fine in that the logo would only be shown on articles about the Voice, and the sidebar would replace the existing logo's position in the article. The only other thing that I'm thinking is that the NIAA is a bit ambiguous about the logo's copyright status and they might have effectively released it under creative commons anyways. The Voice website (voice.niaa.gov.au) has no copyright statement for that site, but the main NIAA site does. Under that main copyright statement, it says:

All material presented on this website is provided under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence, with the exception of:

  • the Commonwealth Coat of Arms
  • this Agency's logo
  • content supplied by third parties.
It doesn't say anything about the Voice logo, and there's nothing to suggest it's #3 of above. Thoughts on if this might be enough to revise the NFC status to CC-BY? Tim (Talk) 10:13, 31 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps an email to NIAA would clear it up. // GMH Melbourne (talk) 10:22, 31 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Probably.... but at the same time, I'm kind of tempted to take the "easier to ask for forgiveness than permission" approach 😂 I'll see if I have time this weekend to shoot them an email, but otherwise, we can leave as is with the CoA and loop back to this once there's some more general movement on the topic. @Hammersoft can you next time not just delete the entire WikiText code, I had to go back and fix the image parameters so that other articles weren't affected. I've added the logo to the template for the main article, but the coat of arms will be for the template itself. AverageFraud (talk) 23:28, 26 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
