Usage[edit]

This template is intended to be used on most of articles describing specific operating systems used on IBM mainframes. The main article is History of IBM mainframe operating systems. This template adheres to Wikipedia:Summary style guideline.

This template includes collapsible lists.

  • To set it to display all lists when it appears (i.e. all lists expanded), use:
  •  {{History of IBM mainframe operating systems |expanded=all}} or, if enabled, {{History of IBM mainframe operating systems |all}}  (i.e. omitting "expanded=").
  • To set it to display one particular list while keeping the remainder collapsed (i.e. hidden apart from their headings), use:
  •  {{History of IBM mainframe operating systems |expanded=listname}} or, if enabled, {{History of IBM mainframe operating systems |listname}}
  • …where listname is one of the following (do not include any quotemarks):
  • "early", "misc", "dos", "os", "vm", "tpf", "unix"

Both IBM and non-IBM operating systems are included, the main criterium is a notable usage on IBM mainframe computers. This table cannot fit all the names, so choose only most important ones from each family.

The year in the table is a date of practical system introduction, whether in commercial, academic, or other environment.
