World Heritage Site

The World Heritage emblem
The World Heritage emblem
  • Comment: Since this is a GA about a level-4 vital article, I propose this as the day's top hook with the emblem pictured.

Nice to meet you, Kareldorado! Substantial GA, on fine sources, offline source accepted AGF, no copyvio obvious. The image is licensed, but well-known, and not the greatest design, therefore I won't recommend to use it. I think the hook would be better if you named the exact number as of June 2020 and say so, instead of "1.000". I'd be more interested in that the agreement is one of the most successful international ones. Thoughts? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:19, 8 July 2020 (UTC)
Nice to meet you again, Gerda Arendt (after the very nice reward you gave me in 2017), and thanks for your considerations! I must agree that stating the exact number 1,121 would give a more encyclopaedic impression. What would you think about this hook:
ALT1a: "... that with 1,121 World Heritage Sites, UNESCO's World Heritage Program (emblem pictured) is the world's most popular cultural program?
I see two possible alternatives for an image: the map showing where the Sites are scattered throughout the world (in the article's Statistics section), or an image about a World Heritage Site (I would suggest Macchu Picchu since it contains both cultural and natural heritage). Kareldorado (talk) 16:00, 8 July 2020 (UTC)
Sorry about my bad memory ;) - I sort of like ALT1a, but if you want to go further, suggest an ALT2 with Machu Picchu (spelling!) - and I do remember climbing up to that peak. I'm afraid the scattered map wouldn't show well in stamp size. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:08, 8 July 2020 (UTC)
Dear Gerda, we can't expect you to remember everyone you ever thanked. :) If you enjoyed that climb that makes two of us. Thanks for correcting my awful spelling error, I knew I had to look it up but greatly forgot to do so. Now, to get back to the point, I also think we should stay with ALT1 to keep the focus on the content of the WHS article, even though the most appropriate image is the not-so-flashy emblem that indicates every WHS. I'm okay with showing the emblem at the Main Page and wonder what editors think about it. Kind regards, Kareldorado (talk) 17:17, 8 July 2020 (UTC)
We had two ALT1 until I now made one ALT1a, which I approve. If that was a misunderstanding please let me know. The image is licensed, but a bit boring. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:41, 12 July 2020 (UTC)
Indeed, I meant the last one, thanks for renaming it to ALT1 for clarity. I will not deny the image is a bit boring; we will see how it compares to the images proposed for hooks of other articles. Kareldorado (talk) 19:28, 13 July 2020 (UTC)
To my observation, almost every other nom comes with a pic, but only one of 8 gets one. I'd choose the most interesting ones ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:52, 13 July 2020 (UTC)
That makes sense. :) Oh well, I hope this hook has a good chance to stand on top. Kareldorado (talk) 05:11, 14 July 2020 (UTC)
