Masa Fukuda[edit]

Created by Cunard (talk). Self-nominated at 01:05, 27 December 2015 (UTC).

Article is sufficiently new, free from any obvious policy issues (NPOV/BLP/copyvio etc), and the hook fact appears in the article and is supported by an inline citation which does indeed contain the pertinent information. Both articles are good to go. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 02:07, 22 January 2016 (UTC)

  • Unfortunately, that material from One Voice Children's Choir that Cunard mentions was created with that article on November 9, and later incorporated in Masa Fukuda on December 20. There are 2429 pre-existing characters, basically the entire second Music career paragraph and the complete One Voice Children's Choir section. WP:DYKSG#A5 states, in part, If some of the text in a nominated article was copied from another Wikipedia article, and the copied text is more than seven days old, then the copied text must be expanded fivefold as if the copied text had been a separate article. A fivefold expansion would require that 2429 to become 12145 characters, but Masa Fukuda, while a goodly size, is 6711. The obvious solution is to cut and/or recast those three paragraphs to reduce the copied material from 2429 to approximately 1050 characters, assuming no new material is added. It's also important to add a "copied" template to both of these articles' talk pages to indicate that significant copying was done from one to the other (see WP:Copying within Wikipedia for details). • Cunard, that's throwing the baby out with the bathwater. In fact, without his music career and the choir, you've failed to deal adequately with the topic, since that's what makes Fukuda notable. I've gone ahead and restored the Music career section entirely (which contained 920 copied prose characters), since that's well within the range of a fivefold expansion, and written a couple of additional sentences for One Voice Children's Choir, while making some minor adjustments elsewhere. The article now comes in at 5206 prose characters. As for the "copied" template, I noticed that other people edited the OVCC article after you wrote it, and though there might have been enough changes so that the template was appropriate; if you say not, then that's fine. Adding: since I changed the "from 10 a.m.–6 p.m." to "from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m." in the article, I've just made the same change to the hook. BlueMoonset (talk) 07:02, 22 January 2016 (UTC)
  • I am undertaking a new review of Masa Fukuda per User:BlueMoonset's request. BlueMoonset, could you clarify WP:DYKSG#A5 for me? According to Dup Detector, 920 characters of duplicated text were included in Masa Fukuda. WP:DYKSG#A5 seems to be saying that this text must be expanded 5x – to 4600 characters. The total character count currently stands at 5211 characters, so the expansion is met. But how can we consider this to be a 5x expansion of a different article? Shouldn't it be viewed as a new article, which has a minimum 1500-char count? In the latter case, we would need another 889 characters (5211 - 4600 = 611 char) of text to meet the minimum 1500-char threshhold. Yoninah (talk) 14:16, 8 February 2016 (UTC)
  • Yoninah, I've never seen A5 interpreted this way. The article has 4291 new characters and 920 old ones, so it meets both the minimum length (1500) and the 5x expansion. It's not unlike any 5x, say from 250 characters, which must meet 5x (1250) and regular minimum (1500), or from 350 characters, which must be greater than both 1750 and 1500. I have approved articles in this situation before, where the expansion exceeds 5x, but not by an extra 1500 on top of that. The key is that the nominated article cannot have more than 20% of its text from existing sources: at least 80% must be new to qualify, and in this case, over four-fifths of the article is new prose. • OK! (I told you I don't have a mathematical brain.) 5x expansion of duplicated text verified. Masa Fukuda is new enough, long enough, neutrally written, well referenced, no close paraphrasing seen. Hook refs verified and cited inline. QPQ done. Meridian School is also new enough, long enough, neutrally written, well referenced, and no close paraphrasing seen. Hook ref verified and cited inline. QPQ done. Everything is good to go.
