Lake Débo[edit]

Mud houses on the center island at on Lake Debo in a wide section of the Niger River

  • ... that extensive study of 400 cartographic maps of Niger, of the period from 1000 to 1900 AD, indicated a series of names for the lake all identified to the same lake, the Lake Débo (pictured)?

The article was expanded over five-fold on March 21, 2013, every paragraph (other than the lead) has at least one citation, the sources appear to be reliable and the article is formatted properly. A concern is that information in the hook is not directly stated in the article, and there's no citation for the hook as it is presented above. Northamerica1000(talk) 07:42, 12 April 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the review. The confusion has resulted on account of editing done by another author after I posted the hook. I have now restored the correct text in the article. The reference is the same, Ref1. I have changed the map numbers to 500, instead of 400. I hope it is now meets your observations.--Nvvchar. 06:26, 13 April 2013 (UTC)
It's close, but there still isn't information in the article about "a series of names for the lake", as stated in the hook above. Northamerica1000(talk) 07:37, 15 April 2013 (UTC)
  • As required, I have now fixed the reference also at the end of sentence which gives the names. --Nvvchar. 13:19, 15 April 2013 (UTC)
Article appears solid, but reference 15 appears down. In addition, reference 16's template malfunctions and doesn't seem to link to where you want it to link, I guess. —♦♦ AMBER(ЯʘCK) 14:12, 19 April 2013 (UTC)
Thanks,User:Amberrock. I have rectified the troublesome references. Septuagenarian effect.--Nvvchar. 05:00, 20 April 2013 (UTC)
  • That is fixed now, indeed. But halfway through the article there's a line that goes as follows "(The Convention on Wetlands of International Importance and Waterfowl Habitat (zone humide reconnue d’un intérêt international pour la migration des oiseaux d’eau)". What's the use of that?—♦♦ AMBER(ЯʘCK) 16:08, 20 April 2013 (UTC)
Yes, I does not help in nay way. Deleted.--Nvvchar. 01:20, 21 April 2013 (UTC)
Sadly, when giving this article another read through, I established a number of errors within the prose. Such as they are:
  • "study of cartographic maps" - Isn't that a pleonasm?
  • "The rainy season in south lasts from July to October, with an average annual rainfall of 750 millimetres (30 in). The rainy season lasts from July to September" - Is there a difference in rainy season for the north and south parts of the lake? The article isn't explicit enough about this.
  • "minimum of 3 °C (37 °F) to 6 °C (43 °F)}" - There's an extra } there.
  • "about 40 numbers are reported" - Does this mean there are only 40 hippos there, or that there are 40 different counts of hippos? The current wording is ambiguous. By the way, regardless of what the intended meaning is, it needs an inline citation.
  • "red-fronted gazelle (V)" - What's the (V) for?
  • afrotropical vs Afro-tropical - This one hasn't been spelled consistently throughout the article.

Hopefully I've provided some constructive feedback.—♦♦ AMBER(ЯʘCK) 06:41, 21 April 2013 (UTC)

  • I made some edits to the article, but I didn't resolve all of the issues that Amberrock identified. However, based on my work, I suggest the following revised hook:
  • ALT1: ... that historical maps and descriptions include nine different names for Lake Débo (pictured) in Niger?
I believe that hook is more accurate. --Orlady (talk) 19:18, 23 April 2013 (UTC)
  • The issues raised by Amberrock have been addressed. I have removed the word "cartographic". The rainy season has been clarified with an additional word. The extra bracket, after the temperatures figures, has been deleted. The issue of 40 numbers has been reworded by Orlady and I have now fixed a reference also. The red-fronted gazelle is under Vulnerable list and the abbreviation has been corrected to "VU". The word afrotropical has been corrected as Afrotropical (it appears at only one place). The ALT1: Hook suggested by Orlady is very fine as to removes all the ambiguities about the numbers. Thanks to Amberrock, and to Orlady for the critical review and the corrections made in the text.--Nvvchar. 04:50, 24 April 2013 (UTC)
  • Thanks to you too, Nvvchar! And to Orlylady, whose ALT1 I'm hereby approving along with the rest of the article. —♦♦ AMBER(ЯʘCK) 07:22, 24 April 2013 (UTC)
