Johann Peries

Converted from a redirect by Abishe (talk). Self-nominated at 08:13, 30 May 2020 (UTC).

  • The article replaces a redirect and is new enough and long enough. The hook facts are cited inline, the article is neutral and I detected no copyright issues. It seems like a lost opportunity not to mention that he is the first Sri Lankan man but not the first Sri Lankan person, a woman having achieved the feat first. This is Abishe's fifth DYK, so a QPQ will be needed next time. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 05:48, 2 July 2020 (UTC)
  • I have added alt blurbs as suggested by you. I hope that the one of the alt blurbs could suit well. Abishe (talk) 15:13, 2 July 2020 (UTC)
  • Hi @Abishe: I have gone over the article and added a little more from the sources. ALT1 has too many details, and ALT2 is something that happens to many, many climbers. What do you think about this idea:
  • ALT3: ... that Johann Peries parlayed his youthful interest in rock climbing to becoming the first man from Sri Lanka to summit Mount Everest? Yoninah (talk) 20:41, 2 July 2020 (UTC)
  • @Yoninah: Your idea is perfect and I agree with it. Abishe (talk) 14:25, 5 July 2020 (UTC)
  • I don't see anything in the source about rock climbing although it does mention him exploring the Knuckles Mountain Range in central Sri Lanka with his father when he was young. How about
  • Cute. @Abishe: if you'd like the rock climbing hook, please add another source for rock climbing. Otherwise, what do you think about ALT4? Yoninah (talk) 17:45, 5 July 2020 (UTC)
  • @Yoninah: I prefer the ALT4 which might be interesting to the readers. Abishe (talk) 11:49, 7 July 2020 (UTC)
  • ALT4 is verified and cited inline. Rest of review per Cwmhiraeth. ALT4 good to go. Yoninah (talk) 12:34, 7 July 2020 (UTC)
