Finnish icebreaker Tarmo (1907)[edit]

Tarmo on display in 2006

  • ... that the flags hoisted on the Finnish icebreaker Tarmo on 3 March 1918 included a large white tablecloth?
  • ALT: "... that one of the flags hoisted on the Finnish icebreaker Tarmo on 3 March 1918 was a large white tablecloth?"
  • Comment: Probably not the only ship in history to surrender, but the idea of the brave capturers rushing to the mess hall to get a makeshift white flag is rather amusing. An alternative, slightly more serious hook could be "... that icebreaker Tarmo was the first ship flying the flag of the independent Finland to open fire on an enemy ship?" or something similar with slightly different wording.
