Ełk riots

  • ... that shortly after the anti-Muslim Ełk riots in Poland, The Kebab War website was launched with the motto "death to the enemies of the fatherland" and listing attacks on kebab eateries? ...

  • Doesn't seem notable, and contains wrong information. Zero results for "Elk riots" on google. The marginal website doesn't seem to be notable enough for any type of hook.MyMoloboaccount (talk) 22:41, 18 August 2019 (UTC)
Clearly passes notability with international coverage and several academic journal articles. Notability is not a hook policy, and the hook is sourced to NRC Handelsblad - a paper of record.Icewhiz (talk) 02:47, 19 August 2019 (UTC)
  • Since this hasn't been reviewed yet, I am announcing now that I will do so. The subject seems notable to me, and for what it is worth, I can read Dutch.--Farang Rak Tham (Talk) 22:35, 20 August 2019 (UTC)
  • Icewhiz, is the date of 18 August above correct? If so, how is the article sufficiently new for DYK eligibility?--Farang Rak Tham (Talk) 07:51, 21 August 2019 (UTC)
  • @Farang Rak Tham: - Article created on 18 August 2019. It was nominated the same day. You can nominate up to seven days after creation - 18 August should be good - it is now only 3 days old. Icewhiz (talk) 08:24, 21 August 2019 (UTC)
  • Sorry, I must have looked at the history of the wrong page. Apologies. Will complete the review today or tomorrow.--Farang Rak Tham (Talk) 12:52, 21 August 2019 (UTC)
General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems
Hook: Hook has been verified by provided inline citation
QPQ: Done.

Overall: I have some concerns with neutrality, which I have listed here. The hook is sourced and interesting, but there may also be a neutrality issue here: the NRC article describes the website using the word ironie which in this context means 'sarcastic, tongue-in-cheek'. The website may have been motivated by racist sentiments (the newspaper is not clear on that), but it also makes fun of such sentiments. You should indicate this in the hook (as you have in the wiki article), or come up with another hook. --Farang Rak Tham (Talk) 08:43, 22 August 2019 (UTC)

Answered article issues on the article talk page. As for hook: (the context makes clear this is ironic - a liberal response, see also following paragraph with the "also joking" in relation to "Real kebab at the real Pole" spray painted into "we make real kebab from the real Pole")
  • ALT1 ... that the anti-Muslim Ełk riots in Poland also evoked irony, The Kebab War website was launched featuring a famous painting with enemy figures replaced by kebab holding migrants? ... @Farang Rak Tham: - I think the website is "hooky" - does this allay concerns ? Icewhiz (talk) 08:56, 22 August 2019 (UTC)
It does, but the grammar is a little off: it reads more like two sentences than one. I could propose a corrected hook, but then a third editor would need to approve that hook. Would you like me to?--Farang Rak Tham (Talk) 19:41, 22 August 2019 (UTC)
ALT2 ... that the ironic The Kebab War website, featuring a famous painting with enemy figures replaced by kebab holding migrants, was launched following the anti-Muslim Ełk riots? ...
@Farang Rak Tham: - ALT2 better? Icewhiz (talk) 05:56, 23 August 2019 (UTC)
@Icewhiz:, this hook is actually very good content-wise, but it's too long. Try make it more brief. Also, please note that the article cannot contain any DISPUTETAG to be nominated for DYK, per D6 at WP:DYKSG. So we'll have to deal with those first. I think there are some valid concerns on the talk page, but am also concerned there may be some WP:GAME there too.--Farang Rak Tham (Talk) 20:21, 25 August 2019 (UTC)
Will deal with the tags (notability is spurious given sourcing. NPOV - GCB needs to articulate what they think needs to be addressed (with sources)). Might take a while - and timing here may be... well.... @Farang Rak Tham: - can you take another look at hook length? My char count (post-markup) has this at 171 chars, well under 200 (DYK rules). If you think it should be shorter - how many chars should I shoot for?Icewhiz (talk) 20:32, 25 August 2019 (UTC)
Icewhiz I am aware of that, and I think you are almost there, but I just think it is a bit too content-packed. Try cutting out a few details, and I am okay with it.--Farang Rak Tham (Talk) 21:13, 25 August 2019 (UTC)
ALT3 ... that the ironic The Kebab War website was launched following the anti-Muslim Ełk riots? ...
ALT4 ... that the anti-Muslim Ełk riots led to the launch of the ironic The Kebab War website which listed attacks on kebab eateries? ...
Here's two shorter ones: ALT3 is 87 chars, ALT4 is 124 chars. Icewhiz (talk) 07:39, 26 August 2019 (UTC)
Pending removal of dispute tags in article, I am approving the ALT4 hook.--Farang Rak Tham (Talk) 08:07, 26 August 2019 (UTC)
Ready to go.--Farang Rak Tham (Talk) 08:50, 27 August 2019 (UTC)
