Carole Dawn Reinhart

Moved to mainspace by Lajmmoore (talk). Self-nominated at 09:36, 5 October 2020 (UTC).

Interesting life, on good sources, no copyvio obvious. - I am not enthusiastic about a hook leaving her at age 2 while she was so extraordinary later. Also, "cornet" is not (yet) in the article. - In the article, I'd like the bare url to go, the very short paragraphs combined, and perhaps some recordings and a review. Thank you for the article, - a shame she had nothing so far. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:04, 5 October 2020 (UTC)
Hi Gerda Arendt Thanks very much, I've picked up all these points apart from the review one, as I couldn't find one other than those that talked about her generally. I've added a paragraph about the sexism she experienced as I came across a new source I'd not seen before. I understand what you mean about the hook - I chose this because in a previous DYK nomination I was told that "firsts" were discouraged and I found it hard to express her achievements without saying that? I wonder whether adding "pioneering" to the hook would emphasise that better? Lajmmoore (talk) 09:34, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
Here's a review for a starter. I'm a bit pressed for time, you see ;) - I'd recommend a bit more lead (not needed for approval, just my idea about meeting an artist, and think in the current, to have "is" but then "emeritus" is a bit strange. I use infobox person for all people, to get rid of the colours, and believe that the "instrument" parameter is meant to mean a specific instrument, such as a certain historic trumpet. I may be wrong about that. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:51, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
... and here, there's a wealth of recordings. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:59, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
Thank you so much for incorporating this. Getting greedy: The first of her two solo albums has also some items woth mentioning in detail and linking, such as a Haydn Concerto. The other album is more a collection of small gems, but quotes some reviews, - did you notice? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:18, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt, Thanks so much for the links! I don't know very much about music, and have got to the end of what I can confidently get out the articles. Thanks very much for the advice though. This page was made as part of an editathon - so what I'll do is ask the group more generally if they can fill in the reviews and discography, as they were mostly musicians anyway. Lajmmoore (talk) 15:04, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
Hello Gerda Arendt and Lajmmoore - there were quite a few solo recordings which are now added in the Discography. The International Trumpet Guild index was misleading as many of the pieces listed were on her solo albums but there were some pieces recorded as part of compilations. Hope this works! Yourworstemily (talk) 23:32, 7 October 2020 (UTC)
Thanks very much Yourworstemily - Gerda Arendt is this what you were after? 08:24, 8 October 2020 (UTC)
Yes, great detail. Will look closer later today, after congratulating Louis Vierne on his 150th birthday, - see Main page ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:37, 8 October 2020 (UTC)
Please pick one of these achievements, instead of saying she began early. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:38, 8 October 2020 (UTC)
Emily, Lajmmoore, I looked at the recordings: great detail, thank you! I formatted a bit: links (some interlanguage links) to conductors, trim orchestra names to how our articles call them, correct the unspeakable German from discogs. Talking about discogs: that is not regarded as a reliable source (WP:RS), so fine when there is a second ref, but not stand-alone, - for those cases please find a different one. No refs in headers please, or the watchlist shows that long thing ;) - Please find a hook or two, because if I do it we need another reviewer. GRuban, would you find a pic for her? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:35, 10 October 2020 (UTC)

Pic options

I found some reasonably high resolution images of the front and back of her first album, "The Trumpet Sounds of Carole Reinhart", ZONDERVAN Recordings: ZLP 691 Stereo (1965)", which includes a likeness of her. The album was published in the United States before 1978 and does not bear a copyright notice on front or back. Per https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Template:PD-US-no_notice it is in the public domain, so we can use it. We have two options for the image: The EBay image is higher resolution, but a bit shiny in spots due to shrinkwrap; the Regal Zonophone image doesn't have shrinkwrap shine, but is lower resolution and a bit darker. Also, we can use the full album cover, or we can just crop down to the picture of her (from either front image). --GRuban (talk) 12:02, 10 October 2020 (UTC)

That's wonderful, thank you! I'd prefer the darker one, and complete, for the style of cover design of the time, but am open to other ideas. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:53, 10 October 2020 (UTC)
Uploaded several versions. Don't know if a possibility is to use the cropped image of her for the DYK, and the full image of the album for the article? Anyway, https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Carole_Reinhart. Good luck. --GRuban (talk) 19:45, 10 October 2020 (UTC)
I took one of the covers in the article, and would leave the DYK without image, unless a hook is about this recording. The crop is a strange format for DYK. What we need is a hook! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:52, 11 October 2020 (UTC)
Hi Everyone! Gerda Arendt - this is amazing work on an image - I tried really hard and could not find one! Thank you. So, for a different DYK line, how about:
ALT1 ... that pioneering trumpet soloist Carole Dawn Reinhart was the first female brass player to graduate with 'Distinction from the Vienna Music Academy and in 1983 was appointed as Professor of Trumpet there? Source: [2]
Good try, thank you! A bit academic for my taste, and we don't need "pioneering" when saying "first", no. How about mentioning only one of the items (such as Professor), and something she played on that record? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:34, 12 October 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for the feedback - I don't know anything about the record though. What about:
ALT2 ... that before pioneering musician Carole Dawn Reinhart was appointed as Professor of Trumpet at the Vienna Music Academy in 1983, she performed in musical variety television programmes such as Fanfare (1965)? Source: [3] and IMDB [4] (Lajmmoore (talk) 08:36, 13 October 2020 (UTC))
Thank you, Lajmmoore, getting better! - How about mentioning Al Hirt in hook and article, rather than Fanfare? ... perhaps that they played duets? - Please drop "pioneering" and "musician". - Please try to reference without IMDb and Discogs, because both are not considered reliable sources. AllMusic is better. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:44, 14 October 2020 (UTC)
  • Hi Gerda Arendt - thanks! I've taken our the Discogs references (but I didn't put them in), but in all honesty I understand classical music so little that I haven't been able to find things to replace them with (which is why I didn't put a long list of music in the article to begin with). Anyway, what about this:
ALT3 ... that before Carole Dawn Reinhart was appointed as Professor of Trumpet at the Vienna Music Academy, she performed in 1965 in several of Al Hirt's Fanfare shows? Source: [5] and and [6] (Lajmmoore (talk) 15:09, 15 October 2020 (UTC))
Thank you! I cut the first year - who cares when that was exactly? Please now also eliminate IMDb. If someone complains about missing refs for recordings, I'll look into it. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:47, 15 October 2020 (UTC)
Great! Thanks very much, IMDBs are now gone. Thanks for your patience too! (Lajmmoore (talk) 18:09, 15 October 2020 (UTC))
I needed no patience, love improve something together. See my talk today for festivity! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:26, 15 October 2020 (UTC)
  • Hi, I came by to promote this. The hook fact about Fanfare seems to be sourced to an ad page (footnote 6) and I am unable to verify any of the facts in the sentence on this website. Footnote 8, meanwhile, is a dead link. I didn't check any of the other footnotes. Yoninah (talk) 22:53, 9 November 2020 (UTC)
  • Hi Yoninah The links are still all live for my browser, but I've added Footnote 8 to webarchive, so hopefully that makes it visible to you? In terms of Footnote 6, I didn't think the list of the Board of Directors of the IWBC was an ad page https://www.myiwbc.org/board-of-directors ? About half-way down the web-page it says "... appeared on numerous TV shows, including the "Tonight Show", the "Mike Douglas Show" and several Al Hirt "Fanfare" shows." There's an IMDB link that discusses Fanfare and another reference here. I've added the latter as an extra reference [FN7 now] in the article (but not the IMDB one). Thanks Lajmmoore (talk) 09:28, 10 November 2020 (UTC)
  • OK, I fixed the footnote 6 link, which directs to an internal page on the IWBC website. The webarchive link is not loading for me but I don't need to verify anything there. Restoring tick per Gerda Arendt's review. Yoninah (talk) 14:45, 11 November 2020 (UTC)
