Beth Van Duyne

  • ... that Beth Van Duyne became involved in politics due to a zoning dispute? Source: Formby, Brandon (June 11, 2011). "Irving mayor runoff battle part of long war for Gears, Van Duyne". Dallas News.

  • I'm not 100% convinced she meets WP:NPOL on the grounds of the WaPo and HuffPo pieces, since the rest is just local coverage, but it's not a hill I'm gonna die on. Article length and newness is sufficient, sources are reliable and used throughout the article. Neutrality, grammar, and copyvio all good. That being said, before I can give a green tick, the hook needs more detail to be interesting. Who's Beth Van Duyne, and why should the reader care enough to click further? Also, please include the source in your nominations - it's annoying to have to dig it up, and the template does ask for it. ♠PMC(talk) 12:28, 10 August 2019 (UTC)
Premeditated Chaos, it's considered optional to provide the source, but I'll get it when I post QPQ I'm about to do. She doesn't meet NPOL, likely, but meets GNG as she got nationwide coverage over her.... mayoralty. Which I have avoided mentioning in the hook. – Muboshgu (talk) 19:08, 11 August 2019 (UTC)
Premeditated Chaos, QPQ and hook citation provided. – Muboshgu (talk) 19:26, 11 August 2019 (UTC)
Fair enough, but I still think the hook is boring. There needs to be something...hooky about it. ♠PMC(talk) 21:34, 11 August 2019 (UTC)
Premeditated Chaos, I'm not against finding a more interesting hook. Is there a way to word her fear of Sharia law that isn't a BLP violation? I'm thinking... – Muboshgu (talk) 22:07, 11 August 2019 (UTC)
No idea. At the very least it needs more detail to make people interested in clicking on her. Otherwise it's just... "Did you know that Some Person You Don't Know got into politics because of zoning?" Which... is not interesting to the average reader. It does not drive curiosity. ♠PMC(talk) 22:28, 11 August 2019 (UTC)
  • ALT0a ... that Beth Van Duyne, who was mayor of Irving, Texas from 2011 to 2017, initially became involved in politics due to a zoning dispute?
@Muboshgu and Premeditated Chaos: Does this resolve the details aspect? Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 07:11, 31 August 2019 (UTC)
I still don't think a zoning dispute is that interesting, but you're here more often than I am - if you think it's hooky enough, it's hooky enough. ♠PMC(talk) 07:28, 31 August 2019 (UTC)
I agree it's not a spectacular hook, but having taken a look at the article, there doesn't seem to be much else that could be used as a hook that would satisfy BLP. In any case, since I proposed ALT0a, I won't be able to sign this off anyway even if I wanted to. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 07:31, 31 August 2019 (UTC)
Ok, let's go with ALT0a then. ♠PMC(talk) 13:59, 31 August 2019 (UTC)
@Narutolovehinata5 and Premeditated Chaos:, thanks to you both. It's definitely not the best hook, but it should do. – Muboshgu (talk) 14:02, 31 August 2019 (UTC)
